After reading the description in the service manual, how would this affect performance as compared to the US model? ANyone know how much this really reduces noise?

My 2007 XB12X (imported from Japan) has this system and I would like to find a way to remove it without getting ECM error codes. The purpose of this device is only to reduce intake noise (not a problem where I live) and is a nuisance when is time to replace spark plugs (it takes longer to remove the air box base). Can somebody help me with this one?

I don't have a clue how the solenoid is connected to the ECM. The schemas don't show anything like that and the partial schema provided with the AIC's description is of no help also. IMO there's no free pin left at the ECM to trigger/monitor the solenoid. Might be a good idea to find this out first and how the signals look alike.

I also don't think that the ECM of japanese models is supported by EcmSpy, so if, changes could only applied the hard way.

Gunter

Oups! I just ordered a cable to use ECMspy on the bike! That would probably explain why my local HD mechanic cannot read my ECM with his scan tool... What are my other options to be able to clear error codes and check the tuning? What could be the cause of this incompatibility with ECMspy? Is it only a matter of modifying configuration files (ini)?

Thanks,

There are no configuration files for that any more. The application would have to be modified as we didn't know about a separate ECM for Japan at that time. Might be that TPS reset and DTC clear will work anyway, but I doubt it.

Gunter

And please send me a picture of the ECM. It must be provided with additional connectors somehow.

Finally got my ECMSPY cable...
Surprisingly the software didn’t have any problem reading my ECM (BUEIC360 09-10-04). I have removed the Active Intake System and the bike doesn’t record any faults. The engine noise increase is barely noticeable (how disappointing…). I wonder why they wasted money and time modifying the bike for such a little effect.

With no local Buell mechanic in the country yet, I needed badly a way of scanning and tuning the bike by myself. Thanks too you and your team Gunter, my bike runs perfectly now… Regards,
