Just found a small rock poking through the top of my belt.
New belt = 180 bones.

I hope this installation isn't too tricky. Anybody done it / seen it done on an x1? It looks like I won't have to drop the swingarm, just slip it through the frame after removing those bolts near the pegs.

You are lucky my friend. To remove you belt just adjust the tension screws all the way forward, remove the screws on the right foot plate. Make sure the bike is supported underneth with a bottle jack. Undo the isolater pull plate off. Replace with new belt. put screws back in on plate, take your isolator bolt (make sure isolater is in set pin and good) put anti sezie on the washer and the underside of the bolt head, and lock tite on the threads. Tourque to 100 ft lbs adjust belt and put back all necessary parts and adjust belt to spec. Wheelie around the block and ride safe.
Be lucky you don't have a M2 i had to damn near take off the frame. OUCH

Make sure your bike is well supported from above also. After you remove the sideplate, it will kind of be out of balance if only supported from beneath.

Need to extend my swingarm, would like to retain belt. What is the pitch/length of the '97 M2 belt vs the new Vrod belt ? Can anyone help me out ? Thanks

Swamp,
I'm not sure of the detailed specs, but the M2 belt has 128 teeth. You might also check the Sportster belt to see if it is longer. I do believe that the Sportster has the same sprocket tooth design as the pulleys are interchangeable.

I think the Sportster belt is the same as the Buell's. The stock belt on my X1 said "Sportster" on it.

I have a chance of buying a New 125 tooth Sportster Belt that has never been on a bike.

I counted the teeth on my S1 Belt and it has 128 teeth. Can I get away with using the 125 tooth belt in the future if my old one ever breaks.

Yes, but it will shorten your wheelbase by a length equivalent to that spanned by 1-1/2 teeth. :)

Its about one inch, now if I go with the smaller rear pulley and the shorter belt is may equal out.

I was only considering the belt if I could get it for cheap as it is a new belt never mounted on a bike.
