Ok, back from the shop when I realize that my brake light is always on and it gets no brighter when the brakes are engaged. The PO replaced the stock unit with LEDs. I removed the front brake switch to make sure my lever wasn't touching and nothing changed, the brake light acted like a running light only. Any ideas what's up?
Thanks for looking,
WT

I realize it may be difficult to tell, but do you think the light is on high or low? Do you remember checking that the brake light was working before the LED unit was installed? Have you tried swapping back to a standard brake light bulb?

If the brake light is on low and not getting brighter with brake activation, it might be you switch(es). Although either front or rear should activate the light independently. But a thought none the less.

Could be that the bulb socket needs cleaning - that one of the leads on the bulb - high or low - is not making contact.

If you think it's on "high" all the time, you may have a stuck brake light switch front or rear.

That's all I can think of right now. Keep us posted on what you find.

Henrik,
Thanks for the tip! It actually did turn out to be the connections in the bulb housing/contacts. I cleaned them off and bent the contact points back out a little and there it was! Thanks Badweb!

I had something similar happen after a tune up. The service tech tightened the screw that holds the front brake switch in place. This screw needs to be backed out about 1 1/2 turns to allow the switch to travel open and and closed. Once I got the screw backed out the switch worked properly.
