I posted in the XB board about a week ago stating that i had horrible misfiring and backfiring at 4K rpms on my brand new(less than 400 miles) XB12Ss. This was a week after my voltage regulator had blown. Well i call up the dealership today to find that my stator had to be replaced and the plug going into the stator was melted. "you have a huge charging issue with your bike" is quote from the service manager. ekkk. any body see something like this before? |

If that connector was shorting out for some reason, it could explain why the voltage regulator died, and maybe other stuff. I would imagine that could be generating some huge freaking transients. The ECM and speedo sensors are the parts I could think of off the top of my head that would be the most sensitive. They might be fine though, they are probably pretty heavily filtered and regulated. They might be replacing the stator just because the connector and wiring is trashed, and they don't have parts (or the desire) to just rebuild that part. Which is actually in your interest anyway. So anyway, this could all very conceivably be just one problem, a short near the stator connector plug. |
