MISTYPED the thread title SEAL not Seat.

Reading over the manual "before" I atempt to replace my front valve seals.

manual says that I need to place protective sleave over valve stem. Would a thick piece of tape work?

manuals also says I need hd-34643a valve seal install tool with driver. all it looks like is a hollow pipe http://www.ukbeg.com/downloads/download_files/manual/buappa.pdf . is there another tool that can be used?

The viton seals can be pushed on with your fingers. Use lube, just a bit of oil should do. Make sure there are not any jagged (even slightly) edges and a sleeve(or tape) isn't necessary. Main objective is NOT to push the seal down too far. If you bottom out the seal against the ledge of the guide it will mushroom out the top and pull away from the valve. I have seen many shops(and some that don't advertise here anymore) do that very thing and they always leak.

Also, make sure that you have enough clearance between the bottom of the retainer and the top of the valve stem seal for the cam that you are using. Otherwise the retainer can hit the seal and cause it to leak.

I'll be trying to swap valve seals tomorrow. So watch out for some stupid question to be asked... Better to be safe than sorry. Don't need to jack up XB NHRS stage 3 heads
