OK, I've read almost everything and I have but one question. The X1 has been ECM'd, K&N'd and is ready for the Supertrapp. But I hear that removal of the stock muffler is a pain in the ass. Can it be done in a parking lot with the bike on a its kickstand? (without sawing it in half...) Thanks in advance everybody. joe | ||

Joe, the PITA part is removing the bolts from the z-bracket at the rear. You need a wrench on both sides because they use squish lock nuts. Instead of the nuts unthreading, both of my bolts twisted and broke in half. So, take a look at the supplied hardware, and determine if it needs to be replaced with a better grade or a different method for locking, such a nylon inserted nut and some loctite. Other than that, piece of cake. | ||

Joe, If, like me, you want to avoid removal of the headers and/or the front muffler mounting bracket/hanger, you *may* need to elevate the rear of the bike in order to gain enough clearance to get the muffler removed. Before you can pull the muffler from the header, the muffler needs to rotate down at the rear to gain clearance enough to escape the front mount. On my '97, I think I simply perched the rear tire atop a brick and did likewise with the kickstand. Good luck. You shouldn't have too much trouble. | ||

Why don't I have a MUFFIER on my X1?  ....... ...But really I hooked a tiedown on the left side frame rail and the other end to a bench {weight bench} and leaned the bike to the right. no prob! | ||

The stocker can be a bit of a pain to remove, but I did mine in the driveway with no lifts of any type & it took no time at all. In fact I was suprised at how fast & ez it all came off & the white bros went on. | ||

Thanks guys. I got it on last night in about an hour forty five. That included borrowing an extension from the neighbor. What I shoud get an award for (or a slap) was getting the stocker off. I had no assistant and was in a parking lot. So I rocked the bike towards me with my right arm (balancing it on the front tire and the kickstand), while I wiggled the stock muffler off with my left. Looking back it was a pretty stupid thing to do. But hey, that's what Joe does. Very happy with the sound, haven't road tested it yet. (chicago area residents are bulding Arks right now) I just hope my bike isn't under water when I get home from work. (I know the post says "muffier" but I dont know how to edit it...) O well. bye all... | ||

Thanks Bomber, I had that supertrapp sitting on top of my desk at the bank all day staring at me. (I get parts shipped to work) When I left work at 4:59pm I had but one mission. And when it looked like rain, I knew I was doing the install in the apartment parking lot right away. I only changed out of my suit because of the associated drycleaning costs... But Thank You. I may very well take you up on the offer for my winter projects  I'll have the beast at HH this Sun. Hopefully I'll see you there. | ||
