So, I’ve installed some upgrades recently so I wanted to see how the bike would dyno. At the local Bike Night a guy with a mobile dyno shows up sometimes. Here is my setup

03’ XB9R 5k+ miles
Race ECM
Race Muffler
K&N Filter
Ceramic Coated Header inside and out
PCIII Currently with Zero Map

I installed the PCIII but wanted to get a control run to see where I’m at before I start messing with the fuel map. When the Dyno Guy put the bike on the Dyno he inserted the Air/Fuel probe into the muffler and because of the baffles it would only go in a few inches. He said that because of this he couldn’t guaranty the reading. After collecting the data it appears that I’m running rich and if there was any fresh air contamination I must be running really rich so I don’t think there was. I just wanted to post the data and get some opinions. I also wanted to know if anybody know of links or can give an explanation of fuel mapping. Looking at some of the maps I down loaded for the PCIII they have both positive and negative numbers. Which one do you use for making a richer and leaner condition?

Max Power = 74.16 Max Torque = 60.18

5th Gear Run with fans to simulate highway riding.

I also have the newer air box with the dimple. I dilled some holes around the base of the cover but didn't really swiss cheese it all over.

I checked the weather and the high on that day was 97, so the temp is correct.

Scitz,

I have a similar problem in that a lot of my air fuel ratio values were rich. I ratioed the readings at every 500 rpms outside of "the box" (closed loop) section to the air fuel ratio that I wanted. This gave me a percentage.

I then went to that cell in the PCIII map and changed the air fuel ratio by that percentage, positive values where the dyno generated map was lean and negative where the map was rich. I can't believe how much better it runs.

I need to return to the dyno and see what I really have but it run so good that I may not bother.

BTW, swiss-cheesing the air box may help your rich condition. Going from the stock air box to no air box gave me nearly a 20% boost on mid-range power according to the dyno. That lead to me drilling all the holes. See http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/6817/129641.html?1086716602

If you know what is needed, and you do from your dyno runs, the PCIII is not hard to set up. You can also go to an authorized tuning center and they can connect your PCIII to their dyno and computer and generate a custom map just for your set up.

I tried all of Power Commander's Buell maps plus the Feracci map with no success. Only when I tuned for my exact set up did I get good results.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Keith

OK, no PCIII is currently produced for Buell. When you say U R using them, which one? Are you using the X-1 PC??? The last one made for Buell from Dynojet??? Or is it a different PC manufacturer???

Ferracci map is actually on Dynojet website under downloads for buells, you just have to look for it. It will only work if it matches your exact build and you ride your bike in Italy

thats what the race ecm dose right richen the mixture?
while the factory ecm runs at close to 14.7 from idle to redline.
such primitive technology bikes use. all cars richen the mixture at higher loads and rpms
