I emailed Wileyco last night at service@wileyco-racing.com inquiring about where I could purchase replacement gaskets. I have a '02 X1 with a SS Wileyco pipe. Today (next day) I got this response. I am impressed especially if they follow through.

Frank

"Have you sent in your warrant card yet? Let me know also your address and telephone number and I will get you out a gasket kit and packing kit at no cost to you.
Buells must be checked minimum every year if not twice for they "eat" packing.
Thank you and waiting your important reply.

I have a Wileyco pipe on my X1. I like the quality, appearance, sound, fit, and so far the durability (3000 miles). I emailed the company requesting info on where to purchase spare gaskets. They responded by mailing me (from Italy) a packet consisting of packing material, rivets and a gasket set all for no charge. I can't say enought for their customer service.

Shazbut, busted front hanger tabs.
Went out and started up the M2 this morning with the stainless version of the WileyCo, noticed the exhaust dancing around a bit, looked a little closer and saw that both sides of the front hanger tabs were busted. Flapping in the breeze. Must have happened on the way back from Appleton a week or three ago. Bummer. Had to ride the S2 today, so not a total bummer, just won't be any playing as much.

Off to send a WileyCoEmail and see what they can offer if anything. (And I so wanted to play at the B-Trax today, oh well guess I'm spectating instead.)

Well, have been involved with some dialog with the WileyCo guy. Finally got some pics for him. He noted the front exhaust hanger.

When my shock was replaced on the 2000 M2 I have under the Buell recall, I did not get the new Y-Mount hanger. Now I'm wondering if I was supposed to, or if the Y-Mount was something extra that came later on. I don't recall the details.

Anyone? I haven't given up hope for a warranty coverage on my broken muffler, but now have concerns that they may since I don't have the Y-mount.

Comments?

Thanks.

Well that sort of sucks. WileyCo won't cover my broken tabs under the warranty due to their suspicion that the packing is gone, which in turn apparently destroys the baffle tube, which in turns leads to bracket destroying vibration.

They will sell me a new one for shipping plus some cost, which is way cheaper than a new exhaust system. I'll have to open it up this weekend and check the packing and inner tube and see what condition it is in.

Don't know what I'll do yet, but will probably take them up on the replacement offer. At least that way I'll have a spare if they don't need the broken one back. I'll have to go re-read the email again.

I guess the bottom line to everyone is to check your packing regularly.

=====
Now I'll have to round up the newer Y-Bracket as well. Wonder what one of those cost?

The Y mount was a goodwill-type offer and the registered owner had one year from the offer date to have it done. That timeframe was up a few years ago and now they're around fifty, hundred bucks, something like that.

Yep, I recall the deal at that time, problem is they were all spoken for and the dealership was booked up solid for too long to wait and I was tired of riding the Honda while the Buell sat waiting for the shock swap, then for the SRP swap, and still no Y-Mount available at those times the shop had it.
Oh well, back to the search. Or maybe to do something else with the bike or exhaust.

Thanks for the info/reminder though.

Mike,
Here's a link to an Ebay auction for the whole exhaust upgrade kit.

Mike...I paid around $90 retail at Hal's for the upgraded bracket two years ago when they goodwilled the shock.

Couldn't get the bracket goodwilled as it wasn't broken so I just bought it as cheap insurance for my new aftermarket muffler. Figured I would be out the cost of the muffler if the bracket let go.

Thanks. I may run by Hal's and see if they have one on a clearance table. Sort of short on time this weekend. That e-bay auction Brad posted runs for 6 more days with a buy it now deal as a backup plan.
Maybe I'll just convert the bike to a couple of Kenworth stacks out the back and tell everyone it's an EPA sound compliance test mule. (The NorthDakota dude should appreciate that one.)

Mike...As it is not a normal replacement part, I strongly doubt if they will have one in stock. They had to order mine and it took a few days to get there.

Then again, their clearance tables are full of stuff that was special ordered and not used. Last year I picked up a pair of spare breadboxes for my X1 for less than the cost of one.

Good luck!

From June 4th until now I've still not got the replacement WileyCo muffler that was offered to me by the company rep. Apparently there was some issue in the shipping department and processing the payment that nobody informed me of. I've just sent off my final request email to attempt one last time to get a replacement muffler paid for and shipped out to me.

In the mean time I'll be putting the stock muffler back on the bike. Got the updated y-bracket to install now (thanks Ralph). Might even put the stock breadbox back on it too while I'm working on it. Anybody want to trade a cruiser for an M2?

Oh well, life goes on, even though the bike has been parked for 7 weeks life still goes on. I wonder where the next turn in the trail will take me.... with the current offerings probably away from E.T.

Got a call finally from the Italian order takers last week, then last night I found a delivery attempt notice on my door. The replacement muffler should be there waiting for me tonight. Might be back on the road soon.

It was there when I got home, quite different that the original one I have. The customer service guy was quite definite that with Buells we need to keep the packing changed on a regular basis. The instructions that came with the new one state that the Buells have a hot exhaust and need the packing replaced regularly as well. The new muffler does require the updated hanger bracket, which fortunately I have now waiting to be installed.

The old one, once removed, will be modified by me to not use packing material, and no it will not be run empty. May take me awhile to get the guts fabricated to what I'm thinking though. I'll probably take some pics of the process and will try to post them eventually once I find out if what I have in mind works or not. The de-packed muffler gut transmorgification project may become a winter project though since I need my acetylene refilled and since I'll probably need a wire feed welder and some sheet metal forming tools (Gotta find my latest Eastwood catalog).

But I'll keep you posted.

(Off to another section to stir up a little trouble.)
