Got my Xroads bars mounted finally but am having problems putting the throttle assy back together. I went with the Buell traction grips this time. When assembling the 2 halves of the switch housing, I can't get them to mate fully. Something is causing it to not mate flush. cables and guides are seated and routed properly. Trouble seems to be the plastic piece on the end of the cable guide being too tall. But it fit before. Any ideas?

On the front of the bar there should be two holes about 1/4 inch apart for a molded dowel inside the housing, make sure the dowel is lined up with one of the holes, the inside hole for if you are using bar end mirrors and the outside hole is for stock mirror set up. Hope this helps.

HAHAHA, that explains what those holes in the bars are for!They're on both bars actually. Clutch side for the same purpose? I thought that was something they did for machine set up purposes. Ok, I will look much closer when I get home. Thanks.

Yep, clutch side is the same and if I remember correctly there should only be one hole on the clutch side. Hope that is the problem, not anything major.

Okay here it is....

My handlebar finally arrived after I left for Philly for a work related excursion. So whats the first thing I do when I get the bike off the truck. Even before fully unpacking and doing the laundry? I tear into the bike.

The new bar is mounted. Pics to follow with my first long ride impression. The short hops so far have been impressive.

The bar is 2" lower than the stock, with 1 1/2" less pull back. Absolutely no interference with the fat tank on the '00 M2. It comes close but does not hit the tank. With it being a tad wider(1-2";) it will allow the master cyl to clear the fly screen. As for mine it just rubs due to other considerations. I used the extra width to do away with the adapters for the CRG mirrors and mounted them directly yo the bar. Thus allowing me a chance to throw on some bar end weights.

Pics to come sometime tomorrow, after the beast gets a wash job.

Now only if my new seat would ever arrive! I did not know I needed to give HD/Buell a two month(or LONGER) lead time. Put it this way I ordered the thing on the 3rd of may. After being told it was shipped(dealer) and that they should have recv'd it(HD). That it was due in before the 4th(dealer). Told them I would be in after the 12th(july). So I stopped by on the 13th, guess what? No seat! Frustration factor is now at maximum.

You going to give a subjective opinion on the new bars? They look good.

Stupid question for you, but can you measure the distance that I marked in yellow on your pic. I have some scratches that I want to get fixed, but would gladly wait and put a tank protector on instead. I just need to know if the protector will cover everything.

Where the mask sits is about as far forward its going to go. Maybe another 1/2 inch with a new one.

Subjective opinion? For me they work very well with the Banke rearsets. I also rotated the controls down to get a better feel. Comfort has definately gone up.
Just have not done any serious distance, yet. Maybe this weekend about a 300 miler though.

Yes they are, finally! Was the wait worth it? Yes. Just order number 31 (superbike). Or if he still has my notes see if he can do a copy off of my measurements.

The pod? it is my A/F guage.

This seams to be a good compromise between the stock bars and going with the extreme CrossRoads bars. It did not really rotate me(body position) that much farther forward. The leverage you apply is a change. Taking some time to get used to it(feel). The extra width is perfect for the CRG mirrors, maybe took some shake out too. The end weights? To early to tell.

Just for info I used Renthal motocross bars with the crossbar removed and it puts me in just about the same position, maybe slightly lower. I did use bar weights and made my own crg-type mirrors.
Where did you put the sensor for the a/f gauge?

Using a stock fulie header. A bosch single wire at the rear head. The guage is a Autometer Phantom series mounted in a cup and clamped to the bar using adel clamp. Seems to be very responsive to any change, including air temp. New mounting will be using the old mirror mount boss. Besides it kinda balances the master cyl on the other side.

Anyone using a Buell M2 Custom seat? I bought one Saturday, and although I like the seat much better, the fit is a little off. I tried one seat they had and it did not even come close to fitting properly. The seat I bought fits, except for the fact that the front retaining tab is not tight, and there is a noticable gap between the fender and the seat right around the strap.

Dealer said the seat will give over time, but I am starting to doubt it.

Its the new tank retainer that is messing you up. It does not allow the front of the seat to set down. Just pull it off and see the difference.

I pulled it off and the stock seat even fit like it should. Just got the new seat. I like it. It does have a whole different feel to it doesn't it. I think it is a big improvement over the stock seat.

btw: How long did it take to get yours? Or was it a off the shelf part at your dealer? mine took 11 weeks!

Now for the more subjective stuff

I have been able to put some miles on the girl with the new bars. The changes are coming into thier own. Still do not have a real feel for the change in leverage, still think like I have the stock bar. It does have a different harmonic freq. Even with the end weights it is a little buzzy above 3k rpm. A good set of gel grips and gloves will solve this though. The change in arm position has helped on the open road. In conjunction with rotating the controls forward. The stress on my wrists is reduced greatly. Although for me it does let me know rather quickly when I get my arms to stiff. A couple of fingers go to sleep on the throttle hand. taking a moment to relax and think relax and all is well.

Still getting the feal for the new set-up, now have added the new seat. I think the total package for me is on the bike now. The bar, Banke rear-sets and shifter and brake, and the seat.

Hoping to put some serious miles on it all this coming weekend.

Are you referring to the claw-like tank retainers? I took them off right after they put them on. I may try and put them back on to see if they designed the seat for them, as I forgot about them.

My dealer had two seats in stock. They also had the new style shifter too. They are good people.

Yep, those darn claw retainers. It seems they tended to force the seat up and away from the tank.

My new seat fits snug to the tank, also have the raccoon on the bike also. So if there was any gap its taken up by it.

My dealer is HD of Danbury, CT.

I tried putting the claw back in and it looked worse. Did notice that the new seat was rubbing a bit on the tank. With scratches and seat rubbing, my tank looks like crap compared to the rest of the bike. I left the top claw which seemed to work for me.

I think I have to get a tank mask. True test will be if they have one in stock.

Can the mask stretch all the way to cover the sides of the tank? The Buell site shows it like that but your pics show it a bit shy.

The elastic on mine has stretched a wee bit. I don't think it will cover the scratch you eluded to earlier though. I had it off for awhile and the stock seat was rubbing excessively on the aft end of the tank also. So I put it back on and so it will stay there. If you look at the front of the seat there is probably a couple staples that are not fully recessed. I noticed with the 01 seats awhile back that some felt tape had been added to cover these up.

I just put a single Corbin seat on my S1 and I don't think I like it! Does anybody else have a Corbin? Is there a break in period? The sides of the seat dig in to my leg a bit, and it's not very padded.

Also, I just removed my sh*t-pile pegs and replaced with billet aluminum. I never realized how much I pushed on them to back my bike up into spaces. I now have two tennis ball sized bruises on the backs of my calves!!
