Was prepping to do my 10K service and by checking the manual, it appears that the forks must be removed and disassembled in order to drain the oil. Is this correct? Is there no easier way to drain the oil if no other work is needed (the seals are good)? Steve. | ||

the draining process involves an inversion step. much easier to accomplish after removal from triple clamps. good luck, dean | ||

That's what I thought -- was hoping I didn't have to remove them. How critical is it to replace the fluid at 10k? Front feels fine, bike doesn't see track use or wheelies... Steve. | ||

I had the dealer change my fork oil at 14k miles. The fluid was pretty nasty looking at that time and the seals had hardened and were difficult to remove. Apparently the fluid collects a good amount of debris from the wearing of the bushings and such inside the fork. They recommended changing the fluid earlier next time. The technician that did the job was familiar with inverted forks and followed the service manual instructions. I watched him do most of it, it looked like a royal pain. Mike L. '04 XB12R |
