Blake,
Sorry it took so long for my response...been having too much fun riding in the afternoon monsoon rains here in NM.
I guess I just worded my original "bad-advice post" to Nectau badly. I talked about low rpms, surging, school zone, etc... I guess what I should have said was IF I ride through a school zone.... I very rarely have to suffer through the torture of a school zone, and when I do I keep the clutch in most of the time. I was just trying to see if maybe Nectau was lugging his engine, and that if he was, then surging would be expected. I didn't read his question carefully, either, as he said it only happend when the engine was cold.
Next, I guess I was exaggerating when I said my engine only sees below 3000 rpm when...you know the rest. I do ride it at 2500rpm MINIMUM. I rode my bike again at that speed and I guess it's not really a "surge." I guess I would have to describe it as a "random slight miss." It seems perfectly normal to me and when I slip the clutch, gas it and pull the front wheel up into the sky, it runs smooth as glass, and stays that way.
Last words, (I know, I know, this is getting quite old) about this: (It's a quote from one of your posts)
"Second, if you have a repetitive problem with chin fairing mounts breaking, even after adapting your riding hapits to better suit the Buell power plant, you might want to string some safety wire around your muffler as a safety catch, just in case."
I Just would like a tip maybe to see if anyone knows what I might be doing wrong to break my chin fairing mounts. You recommended safety wire for my exhaust. Sorry...just bustin' yer balls...
Oh yeah, just one more thing: I think I figured out what was happening with my front exhaust brackets and clamps! See, when a clamp would break, I would just put a new one on, and tighten it down. BIG MISTAKE! When the bracket finally broke, I went to pull it off. Upon doing this, I discovered, much to my amazement and enlightenment, I saw that the bracket was not even touching the header. So, after getting the bracket welded, I made sure to tighten the clamp FIRST! THEN tighten the long through-bolt that holds the "L" bracket to the big one on the front of the engine case. OOPS!! Ever do something so obviously stupid that you feel like a real dork? DUH-OH! BART!!!

"Ever do something so obviously stupid that you feel like a real dork?"
Never.

I'm serious about raising the revs though. The chin fairing could be taking a real beating from engine shake at 2500 rpm; that makes for bad juju.

And as to ANY other problem you might need help with... wrap some safety wire around it.
