Hello
I recently bought a 2005 XB12R. My bike is less than 1 month old with 100 miles on it. While riding it started to feel very rough. After looking it over I saw that the rubber in the front motor mount had fallen out. I rode very reserved following the break in procedures. It is now in the dealer awaiting a new motor mount. Has any else had this problem? It's making me wonder if I should have bought another bike. Everyone has told me how great the buells are. This is not a very good start for me. Thanks

I was quoted over a week for the dealership to receive the front isolator and install it but Buell delivered the part in a day or so which was fantastic. Everything was covered under warranty of course.

With the new front isolator installed my bad vibes like you were feeling vanished and also the 'clunk' i was feeling when going over larger bumps vanished. I had previously had the dealership look at the steering head thinking it was loose. Nope, the isolator was going bad, the motor must have been dropping and hitting the bottom collar making it feel like a steering head issue.

I wasn't too impressed that the front isolator failed with only 3200 miles on the bike. I mentioned this to the head tech who said its a wear part anyway so he wasn't too shocked but was def. puzzled that it failed so early. As you can see from my pics it looked like it melted. Very odd. Now I'm carefully watching the new isolator hoping I have better luck with the new one.

Mine has 17,400 miles on it. So far so good with it. My understanding is that the 06 mounts are suppose to be better. If someone can confirm this post up.

Mine went at about 9500 miles.
Got the part from DaveS in a cpl of days and changed it myself in under an hour,But I think I MIGHT have not raised the engine up quite enough when i put the new one on because I just noticed yesterday that i got a cpl new seeping leaks,at the bottom of the cylinder heads and that CANT be good.
I'm kind nervous about dropping the motor by myself n trying to raise it up n retighten it just in case thats not why its leaking.

The bad vibes are still there because we are now going on 2 weeks and the dealer still has not fixed it. I only rode the bike 4 times and the rubber in the mount completely fell out. I hope this doesn't become an ongoing problem. thanks for your help.

Mine will be replaced this monday and the part came in fast just take your bike in and have it done,Don't think you should have bought a differant bike the buell won out from many other bikes I was looking at,I think the buell is the perfect real world street bike....but thats just me good luck and ride safe

Smoothsax, I'd call the dealership and ask about the delay, then call Buell Customer Support.

If it's only a matter of the dealer not having enough man-hours to get it done by now, maybe the factory can help. Others here on BadWeb know more about this and may have covered it before, so if you do a search, you'll probably find more complete advice.

It's an easy fix,Just jack up the motor AS your loosening it,replace the part with the motor supported and lower the motor as you tighten it to 50 footpounds.

I THINK it was aboot 45$,May want to ask DaveS about it tho.
I just took some pics of my seepage but my stupid nikon program keeps giving me transfer errors so I cant post em till i can reinstall that.

The dealer has already had my bike for 2 weeks. they said the part was ordered and has not come in yet. If I knew it would have taken this long I would have tried to do it myself. It has really been bothering me because the bike is brand new. How can a part fall apart that quickly. only 100 miles!!

Smoothsax, I'm not sure where you live but my isolator was delivered to my Massachusetts dealer in about a day. Shouldn't take that long to get the part, sounds like they're dragging their feet to me.

Buelltroll is correct, I believe the part is about $50. I know the install process is easy but I wanted it fixed under warranty by a dealer.

If you do it yourself, remember to lubricate the beam part of the mount.

silver or black motor

silver .... there WILL be some seepage

casting leaves pours , and or little holes
that can and (over time) WILL have some kind of oil residue


on the harleys silver motor that is acceptable

but if you have drips of oil i would look at it more closely

just my 2C
