I just bought my x1. : ) : ( The bike starts Ok- I have to raise the idle then as it warms up I have to lower the idle. After a short trip and the bike is warmed up. If the bike idles for more than a few seconds it will drop a few RPMS and then just die. I can restart but to take off I have to increase RPMS.

The PCIII is way out of tune. And the previous owner drag raced the bike some. It only has 6500miles.

Are high performance fuel injected buells known to kill fuel pumps?

"....buells known to kill fuel pumps?"
AFAIK, they rarely fail. Take the bike to any auto shop, and they can put a fuel pressure guage on the schreader (sp?) valve (looks like a tire valve at the gas hose exit). It should read ~50 psi (from memory) with the bike running (the pump starts and then turns off until the ECM sees the engine turning over). At idle, the fuel injectors are open for a very short time - so any problems will show up at idle first. IMHO, remove the PCIII and see how it runs in stock form?

The X1 also has an auto idle feature, it will vary the ignition timing (from 5 to 30 degs?) to try and keep the idle at ~1000 rpm. If the throttle position sensor (TPS) is not sensed correctly, it won't idle properly. You shouldn't have to play with the idle adjust to make it idle - mine idles cold or hot....

with the pcIII software on my laptop I can watch the RPM's it would bounce around alot about 75rpms +/-. But then it would settle nice and smooth and stay the same number rpm for about 1-3 seconds.

I've seen schreader valve. I wonder if autozone loans out the tool.

I'd hate to give 30+ bucks to a mech when I can buy a new fuel pump for 60.00.

thanks for the info 99x1!!!!

Wes,
The bike is probably running rich on the bottom end that is causing the bike to die. The bike does run fine with a race ecm installed. The stock ECM and PCIII should work fine. Did you ever change the map any?

PC maps don't allow for adjustments on the bottom end. or at least I went from zero to negative 45 with no change! I think it has to be the AFV or TPS.

screw power commanders , unless you got a dyno for free i think they are worthless, or least not worth my trouble.

helped me correct a detonation problem caused by excessive leaning of the fuel air,
just loaded a map for my set up,
I might Blow 40 bux to see if it hurt or helped as I have 2 sets of dyno runs to refer to,
like adding any accessory YMMV

in Rykers case HIS bike aint stock ..........

If you have detonation - not much a dyno will tell you other than what you know, allready.

One option is to use 1-3oz of offroad octane booster.

----BTW i fixed my problem. I now have a mukuni carb!

True about the detonation, but with out a way to tweek it, a carb is the only other option.
Since my bikes motor is in essence stock the efi was not "way off". In hind site the race ecm may have been a better choice, with the pc3 when hot whacking the throttle wide open some times gets a stumble but, no "rocks in the motor".

Wes your bike with the carb, does it run like a scalded dog or what?

BTW the FACTORY told me not to use booster that it messed up the o2 sensor,
No prob with a carb
Glad that the carb set up worked for you
ride safe

... if I am not mistaken, some octane boost products aren't safe for O2 sensors. Caution
