I'm trying to find a single pair of pants for all riding occasions. I want them to be waterproof (or very resistant) so that I don't have to pull over to put something else on. (I hate having to stop!) I also want knee armor included. The kicker is that I want to wear them over my jeans or twills, so a non-removable liner will bake me in the summer when I'm off my MC.

Any tips? Local shops are suggesting the JoeR Ballistics or the Icon Timax (not the mesh).

Thanks.

Aerostitch Roadcrafters are great as well. A bit heavier in the fabric than the Darien.

There are some nice combination pants cropping up; basically a cordura fabric with a waterproof/breathable liner that you can remove in warm, dry weather and add in if you're expecting cold or wet weather.

I invested in a Rukka jacket - and "invested" is the right term. Very nice with a very wide range of comfort options for various weather. There are more manufacturers coming up with something similar.

many overpants fit so loosely that I'd be leery of the protection the armor may provide in a get-off -- the armor can't do it's job if it's not in the right place when you bounce

my Joe Rocket pants are going on the block soon, for just that reason (that and I picked up a Roadcrafter on ebay ;-} )

something to keep in mind when sourcing protective gear

Check out Firstgear HT pants, they have both overpants, and riding pants. I bought the HT overpants from Newenough, very happy with them.

Thanks for the tips. Newenough doesn't ship to Canada, though, Rukka's Canadian distributor's website doesn't list any Rukka products, and I found a pair of Roadcrafter pants on sale at the Aerostich website, but when I called to order, they were gone!

I'm feeling cursed

I haven't been in touch with every local shop, though, so I'll keep trying.

Update:

I made it to a few more local shops, and found the Joe Rocket Alter Ego pants. Newenough has a great description of them: http://www.newenough.com/joe_rocket_alter_ego_pants_page.htm
so I won't repeat it here, but after trying them on, they're exactly what I was looking for.

Thanks again for your tips.
