I was wondering if anyone has ever straightened a front rotor or carrier-unsure which is bent. I was in an accident last year and finally got it back together and just took it for it's initial ride, have a bit of dragging and figured that it happened whilst sliding under the guardrail that I was performing tests for ODOT and HJC. anyone ever had any luck hooking up to a lathe and finding the bent spot and wacking it a few times to straighten?

CJ -- I've not done it, and would strongly recommend against it -- new parts ain't all the spendy, any your life literally depends on these parts . . . . . .

I agree with Bomber. I haven't heard of anyone doing it so I don't even know if it's possible to get the rotor straight enough again. Rotors are very tough and it sound like a job for a hydraulic press and then retrue on a lathe if you are so inclined. I suggest going to the H-D/Buell shop and get a replacement.

i agree,, i have straightened all sorts of molding racks and it is tough to get perfect, metals have memory retention and even if you get it straight enough, with hard breaking heat cycles that memory could cause and untimely warp.. two thing not to mess with are tires and brakes!! money always well spent, flip the bills and save your neck,,, ps if your bike sat for a while make sure the rotors arnt just rusty and that your not just feeling that first,,, hope this helps,, aaron

For what it's worth, I had a bad pulsing rotor on my Road Pig a few years back and thought maybe I could repair it. I set a dial indicator up to find the bad spot and found it was out of true by just a couple of hundredths of an inch. I decided that I probably could not improve on that tolerance with my BFH, so I replaced it instead.

I recommend you do the same.

Thanks for the info, I haven't yanked it off the bike so I have yet to get a good look at, but I started to think the same thing, 100 bucks is worth saving may arse. Corey

Turned out to be a bent/warped axle no rotor problem after all. Must perform better QC on my own ride, sheeze.
