I bought my bike a 1998 S1 white Lightning about 2 months ago it only had 1300 miles on it. The original owner hadnt had the 1000 mile service done yet when I took it in they informed me of 7 recalls needing done on my bike including the shock and swing arm needing replaced. They also replaced a fork seal that was leaking. When I got my bike back I noticed the second I left the dealership a difference in the bike. I rode it around a little trying to see if I could figure out the weird feeling it had. It almost feels like something is loose or has slack in it. I took it back to the dealer to inquire about it. The mechanic that worked on it took it for a ride and said he couldnt tell what I was talking about. I asked him how to adjust my new shock and he looked at me like I was nuts.having rode it around some more it feels like the front end chatters(?) when im on the front brake. I dont hear any noises but it feels like if flexes(?) front to back. I also think that he has the shock set stiffer than the one they took off. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Garrett

Jason:

Do you have the service manual or owners manual for the 1998 S-1WL?

If not, drop me a note and give me your VIN and con tact info and I'll send it to you electronically.

There is a fairly good overview of how to set the rear suspension. I can also, if that doesn't do it, put someone in touch with you to make certain all is as it should be.

Do me a favor and prior to starting this exercise, check your tire pressure front and rear. Don't laugh.....I've done this before.

: )

I have a 97 S3 with the most recent updated shock and have questions.

Is the rear suspension travel still the same
@ 4.9 Inches?

Does that figure take into account engine mount flex?

What is the total travel of the shock?

General concensus is that the sag should be set at 30-40% of suspension travel. Does this rule of thumb apply to Buells?
