Hi, I'm new here but i hope to frequent this site from now on. I bought a used Blast over the winter and it had some tiny rust spots on the vertical pipe of the muffler. Since I've taken it out of storage, the rust spot have gotten worse. Unfortunately I need to park the bike outside. I keep it covered with a tarp as best it's still exposed to moisture. Does anyone else have rust like this? Can anyone recommend steps to take to deal with the rust? At KMart I found some high temperature paint meant for painting exhaust pipes. What do you think about me sanding the rust, and then painting over it? Any input would be appreciated. Lee | ||

Short of having it Jet Hot coated high temp paint is your only option. That's what I did on my daughters. BBQ Black to the rescue! BTW, Welcome! Brad | ||

Jim, What cabinet did you pickup? One from Harbor Freight? Just curious. BTW, you wouldn't happen to have a stock derby cover hanging around woud you? I want to replace the dinged one on my S2. I'm going to polish it to match the primary... Brad | ||

Lee - Welcome to Badweb. You will like it here. One of the most common Blast mods is installing an aftermarket exhaust. It gives a little extra HP. The Vance and Hines is the one people seem to use the most, though there are several others. Now might be a good time for you to do this. I just looked around to see if I could find a price for you. Bluz...You painted your daughter BBQ black???!!!!!  Lee, BBQ black will work, but will eventually flake off. Jet Hot is the way to go...or just do the Vance & Hines and be done with it. Oh yeah, Welcome Aboard!  | ||

Yup! Just used a reatle can of Rustolium high temp. It's lasted over a year so far. The trick is to really wire brush it clean before you paint. You have to get ALL the rust off. Let it air dry for a day before starting the motor. After that, the exhaust heat bakes the paint. | ||

Wipe some WD40 on the black finish every couple of days and before you cover your bike (let the bike cool a couple of minutes). Not a permanent solution, but it helps. You might be surprised how good it works. |
