Yeah... Go Karts : )...

Keep in mind everyone... Go Karts at these indoor tracks in Phx are a "little" spendy. I think they generally run about $15 a race (but you qualify and everything : )) and I know if you only bring enough for a couple runs you'll want more : ). Most of them have group discounts though.

Mike,
I'm still in. I'll give you a jingle once I get out to Iowa. Working on getting everything packed up and loose ends tied up before I head West.

Can't wait for this ride!

Oh yea, this is gonna be good. I assume that besides us californicators coming over, that we oughta be able to snag a few Nevadadudes and some of the New mexican contingent that was at Torquefest (has anyone told Murrae at at Santa Fe HD/Buell? Not sure he if he hangs on the BBoards), and maybe even some Colorado guys?

Cool that we're going by Daryl's memorial spot. It'd be nice to collect as a group there and have a minute of silence or something.

I am working on a group rate at the go carts as well as the Days Inn in Show Low.

The New Mexico crowd are being kept in the loop, although they are a quiet bunch. : )

I look forward to seeing you ALEX, and anyone else you can bring with you. People... Everyone is invited for sure. We will try to accomodate as many as possible where we can. For those that don't enjoy floor space, here is a listing of local hotel/motels in the Phoenix area for the first and last nights. Notice these are along the I-17 corridor close to my home.
Motel 6, 2735 W. sweetwater ave. Phx, AZ, 85029
602-942-5030 (closest)
Baymont Inn, 12605 N. 26th Ave. Phx, AZ, 85029
602-580-8500
LaQuinta, 2510 W. Greenway rd, Phx, AZ, 85023
602-993-0800
Embassy Suites, 2577 Greenway rd, Phx, AZ, 85023
602-375-1777

I hope this list will be enough, I'm sure you can find more doing a Google search. I found these doing a search with my GPS software encompassing 5 miles from my home. I tried to find low rates and decent accomodations. You pick what fits you.

Next post, I'll list the local shops, in case anyone actually "rides" in, (cough, cough) and needs to get their oil changed or (pray not) need repairs. I'm still waiting to find out the location of Murrae's brothers new shop. He just opened one here in Phoenix. I'll see if we can get deals from there also.

Once again, let me know if your going to want to store a trailer here for the week so I can notify my managers here at my complex. They will be in a fenced and secured area.

Too Kewl for School !!! It looks like it's all coming together guys and gals. Thanks for being patient while we worked out the dates. Now that that is solid, we are moving on like a Buell on mountain road! Thanks for your support, and I really look forward to seeing you all in a few months!

Bart, Jerry, Denise and Al (who I haven't met, but saved my in a small way with the RANE ride), It's going to be a great time. Don't know how I'll deal with trailering if Mike and I decide to do that. We might make it to Canon City, CO (my last day of mountain and twisty riding until Tripper's back roads of Kansas, 90 miles with 7 turns) until we'll take the bikes off the trailer, but we'll be there. Those roads aren't to be missed.

You suppose we'll have a bit of an easier time finding a few cold ones in Arizona than we did in Blanding?

Ride safe until we meet again, all of you.

I was hoping someone's significant other could follow in a truck. My two friends here in town are fighting each other to get on the back of my bike. LOL Looks like I'll be packing someone, who I'm still not sure.
So, no plans are made at this time for a chase vehicle.. : (

I've heard of some talking of trucking over but I don't know of any spare drivers.
Most likely I'll be riding over.

Since it will be ore than just a weekend, Joanne is staying behind to run American Sport Bike while I'm out gallivanting around the AZ mountains, so she won't be there to chase. I will bring the truck, likely with trailered bikes, to AzFast Central, wherever that is. If we need to go rescue a bike after the loop is complete, we can.

Could you post a map or route list of the tentative route?

I am thinking that if we spend saturday night in Show Low, that when we come in with the tow vehicles we'll leave them at the motel. Then we'll ride into Phoenix from there. When we get back to Show Low on the ride then we'll pack up and head for home from there. That will save us quite a bit of travel time sunday and that we can be back to work monday.

It's posted a few archives ago...

It seems at this point to be
Wickenberg to Prescott to Jerome to 260W to Show-low.

The next day we'll take the 191S and then a few other roads back north to Show-low.

the next day we head to Phx via 191 again and head to a Go-Kart track.

Iamike,
that would work for those of you coming in from the east.

M1,
the route on the final day is NOT another attack of hwy191, we'll be coming down the 60 through salt river canyon to globe, then to Winkelman, Superior, (Los Hermanos for lunch) and then on down into Phoenix.

here is a copy of the post listing the route:

By far, the sweetest road in the state is Hwy 191. Formally known as Hwy 666. (Renamed to be politically correct)
If everyone meets in Phoenix, where they can park any trucks or trailers, (ahem), we can leave heading west over Yarnell pass, then down through the Spars, lunch in Prescott, and then out hwy260 to Payson, and on up to Show Low. It will probably be late, after dark, when we arrive.
We can ride the route over to New Mexico, and down through the canyons to Glenwood, NM. Then on through the tight twisties past Daryl's memorial, where we can take a break, and then on into Morienci for lunch.
After lunch, we can attack 191, the curves are technical, and spectacular. Here is a link to Jim Witt's topo maps of the route:
http://www.pbase.com/smokedaddy/arizona_torque_fest&page=all
We should get back into Show Low before 5PM. We can then chow down somewhere, and then commence to drink!
The next day, we can take Hwy 60 down off the mountain. Ripping the Salt river canyon, and then Globe/Winkelman/Superior loop. We can stop in Superior for some chow, and bid farewell to our Tucson friends, as we split ways. In Phoenix the rest of the crowd can relax and then prepare to head on home.
The Northern AZ riders can opt to take Hwy 260 back home to save time, rather than ride the Salt, and then have to ride from Phoenix, all the way up I-17. (Although Black Canyon city area does have some great sweepers!)

This route will take 3 days to traverse.
Day one: Ride up through the spars, and then across Hwy 260 to Payson, and then on up to Show Low.
Day two: Ride into New Mexico, and then across to Hwy 191, and back up to Show Low.
Day three: Ride down through the White mountains, through the Salt river canyon, and into Globe. We can then determine if we want to do the Winkelman loop, or just head on down to the mountain.

Factor in that the California folks are going to take a days drive each way, and your looking at a 5 day committment for them.
We need to trim the route down some, probably. I think the New Mexico/Hwy 191 is a must ride. The spars are also, but the distance from the base point may make this route to long. Everyone's got their favorite roads, we can't get them all in. The distance is just too great. I think two 300-400 mile days would suffice. That's still 4 days for the Cali folks.

But then again, LOL. It is an excellent route all summed up. Some of Arizona's finest.

This route looks great, some roads I haven't been on (especially 191).

The first time I drove to Phoenix as we were crossing the border into AZ the truckers were saying on the CB (remember those) not to drive into Flagstaff due to the snow. I pulled out my trusty atlas in the dark and said "hmm, 60, that looks like a nice road into Phoenix. It started snowing hard cookie flakes that thumped on the windshield as were travelled along. Twice I had to stop and scrape the snow out of the recessed headlights. We finally stopped at the pass to wait until daylight since I didn't want to go downhill on the snowpacked road.
When it came time to go back we drove the way back out again. I said to myself "holy s__t, I drove this road at night in a snowstorm!"

We are up to 4 that are pretty interested in coming down. Two more Harley guys are deciding between AZ & Sturgis.

Wow... I just looked over those topo's of 191. Sweet.

It takes about 3.5-4 hours to get from Prescott to Show-low if you do a little more than the speed limit. That's w/o going through Jerome. I like the view as you come through Jerome but maybe we should cut that out and go straight over the hill via 17 on the first day. I don't really see any convenient way to shave anything off the next day when we head through NM and then up 191. The third day is just heading down the 60 to Phx...

What if we did it a little backwards from the current plan?

We could leave from Phx and head east to the 78 to 180 and then north through NM and head up to Show-Low. The second day we could do the 191S then head west to the 60 and back up to Show-Low. On the third day we could leave the NM guys in the morning and escort the Cali people west on the 260 through Prescott and Wickenberg back down to Phx. I gotta say though, after looking at the topo's of the eastern side, I think that's where the really good roads are. The spars are nice and technical and real Buell country, but the Eastern side looks Very good.

Hows about...

We head out of Phx to the east, do the lower two legs of the "superior loop" then continue into NM and North to Show-Low... the second day we take the 191S and do the whole superior loop, then head over to Phx for the night and everyone departs in the morning.

How long does it take to get from Show-Low to Phx on the 60? If we do the original rout (including prescott on day one, 191 on day two and then the 60 on the third day, what time could we make it back to Phx on the third day? Would it be possible to ride from Show-Low to Phx on the 60 AND make it to Cali in one day? Anyone that doesn't have a truck could be escorted by yours truly across the 260 through Prescott to the 60 and then the 10 on the way back to Cali while the people with trailers could head down the 60 to Phx to collect the four wheelers on the third day.

Is it possible to do the 191 loop through NM starting from Show-Low AND get down the 60 to Phx on the second day? That's a long ride... If we did that, I could "probably" find a place in Show-Low where we could stash our gear so we don't have to carry it on the 191 loop and we wouldn't have to leave it at the hotel or something like that, then we could pick it up when we come back through Show-Low on our way to the 60.

How about we go through wick and prescott and take the 260 to Show-Low the first day, then take the 191S and do the superior loop the second day and then just head straight back to Phx. That would get in the good roads and cut a day. That road that heads south through NM looks pretty nice too though : ).

Just rambling...

I hate to quote myself...

This may be the ticket for a two day trip.

One point to remember M-1, I don't know if you've ever run these roads, but the NM side is a lot of fun long sweepers, while the AZ 191 is really technical. The reason everyone decided to go down NM and back up the 191 at TQFEST is the sweepers are more fun downhill while the tight stuff is better run uphill, for fun, and for safety sake as well...

Just a thought...

Chuck - If that's the case, we could do the superior loop and go up 191 the first day, then come back down via NM on the second day... Good point though, I hadn't even thought about it.

Carey - As far as tools, I'll bring enough to work on an XB (The normal stuff anyway)... I'd imagine the tube frames are pretty close, but I'll let the pro's make sure they have enough stuff for those.
