Mike it will probably be the first or second Monday in January before I do it. It is leaking enough right now that I get a drop of oil dripping on the header every now and then, but I want to ride it through the holidays. I appreciate it too man. Thanks a bunch! It really deosnt seem like it is going to be too big of a job. I am going to sears sometime over the holidays and picking up a set of hex drivers in 3/8 drive.

Nick: If you don't mind another one taking up space, I'll come and fetch tools : ) I'm always willing to learn something, never know when it could come in handy. Say has anyone read about Daves Fly,Buy, and Ride! Promo? I read it a couple days ago, that would definitely be the greatest way to buy a buell. Hopefully when I'm ready for something bigger, he'll be doing it anually : ) But I'm probably dreaming...oh well. Ride safe mateys, the blast looks like it'll be done by January! As long as no more big complications show up, it should be a breeze from here out.

Glad to here that you got it under control! Man, I don't mind at all. I guess the more the merrier. It will be like a giant excuse for guys to stand around and bullsheite and drink whatever is on hand.
I read that deal that Dave had. Believe me, if I hadn't already bought this bike, I would have been all over that. I'll have the XB for at least one more year. My wife has decided that a new SUV is in order next year and she has made me promise that the next bike will be a full out Harley cruiser of some sort. Now you all know why I work 60 hour weeks!

Yeah those damn torx bits bah. I've heard that people have replaced them with hex heads, I'll definitely be doing that when I get it back together, I can just see the headaches of taking the clutch cover off already...

Dan,
Did you get your cover off, have you found what is going on inside yet?
Harley switched to the Torx screws because the Allen screws strip out even easier. The Torx can allow you to put more torque to the screw before it slips, however because of this you have to make sure you do not over tighten them while installing. If you would like to borrow a torque wrench, and Torx, or Allen socket for when you go back together let me know.

Nick,
Let me know when you decide on a date and I will mark it in my Calendar.
I will bring a few tools just in case you need them. I have never worked on an XB before, but have a good amount of experience with the old steel frames.
Do you have a jack to place under the engine to raise and lower it?

Mike

Mike: I'll post it as soon as I figure out a date. I'll try to give a week or better heads up. I really appreciate it! This will be the first Harley that I have been into since I was a teenager! I am actually looking forward to it. After talking with Steve Slaughter here on the site it sounds really simple to do. And.. nope I dont have a jack.

John: Not real sure about Sunday. Some of the SBN guys are meeting on LV BLVD for a ride out to RR I think. I told them I might make it. Never hurts to make new friends. I will go on Saturday am but just to say hello. Did you get the car fixed??

Mike,

I didn't know the allens stripped out easier...crazy! I'm going to pick up an inch pound torque wrench at some point when I remember, I figure if I'm going to be getting knee deep in this I might as well have my own. The cover is off, it's like the father I get into this the more I found out that someone did this before me who had even less knowledge about bikes than I. The bolts were stripped, and there was no clutch cover gasket...I'm betting someone did the transmission fluid at home and just botched it....oh welll though.

Jake: No probs! Ya know... I guess it comes from being raised by people that were dirt poor. My toy when I was a kid was an old lawnmower and a rusty set of tools. I took that thing apart and reassembled it every day for a year it seems like. Then I figured out I could do the same with an old televison.. been hooked on that kind of stuff ever since. One of these days I'll have to invite everyone over and show off my antique radio collection. If I had a garage.. I would be a dangerous.. and very scarce individual!

John: I am not sure about Saturday, but I think I am for sure gonna meet up with the SBN crew on Sunday at least for an hor or so. They seem like a great bunch and they want to do the one thing that I want to do and that is RIDE!

Catch you all later,
Nick

John: I'll call ya and see what you have happening for Sunday.

Guys, I talked with Joey today. (The guy that wrecked last weekend) He is doing fine, and back to work. He said that he realizes now that he is a very lucky guy! He has no idea what happened to the bike, but it seems like it os going to be fixed. He asked me to keep in touch with him and let him know what's going on with the group.

Here all night again,
Nick

****** VERY IMPORTANT*****
The guy that rode with us to Kingman from SCS (JWD) was hit last night on LV Blvd at Tropicana. Apparently some chick changed lanes on hime right in the middle of the intersection. From what I have heard, he has a broken knee and some scrapes and such. He said his bike was totaled. Just thought I would mention it. If I find anything else I will let you know.

Chapter Calendar.doc (20.0 k)

Guys, in my boredom here at work, I started putting together a calendar for next year. PLease feel free top add to it, rape it, eat it, or otherwise peruse over the little I have put there. If you have suggestions or add anything please email it to Jacob, John, or me so we can start planning on the year ahead. I have high hopes of this being an exciting time for the BRAG chapter!
I just realized that I spend wayy too much time here when I am at work!

Will do, John

You guys missed a GREAT ride on Sunday! By far, the best run that I have made since I had the XB. We went our over Apex, and back through Glendale. I had to jump off there and head home, but the guys went on through Overton and then home. There were about 8 of us, all varied speeds and skill levels but what a damn good time!

See yas all tomorrow!!

John: it was all just a group of friends from SBN> I have been chatting on and off with them for a week or so. I'll see what I can scare up for Monday. The 27th? I am working Christmas eve and day. Bummer!

Rich: how long are you home? We haven't really planned anything, but I am sure we could scare up some riders.

ALSO: What do you all think about a lunch at HD Cafe, on LV Blvd after tyhe first of the year?

Rich buddy what's up? Hey man I'll go riding with ya. Right now I'm waiting for a rear rotor to come in. I accidentally bent mine changing out my tires. The part should come in any day now. Then I will be good to go.

Nick the HD café sounds good. Friday and Saturday evening is usually when things are happen’ down there. I know those are both nights you work. On the other hand going down there on an off night might be fun to. Have the place all to ourselves.

Ordering parts in the morning! The threading for the adjuster bolt was almost completely stripped out, there was maybe one full revolution of threading and the rest was smooth. damn! I'm probably gonna check the detent bolt while I'm in there, since I have a suspicion that it'll be acting up soon if I don't since it's an '01 epidemic....In conclusion *drum roll* I'll be back on the road reeaaaal soon. Unless Murphy's Law bites my azz again. : )

The ride this morning was great with the exception of a half million oriental tourists on the dam! I met some more new folks from SBN. These guys are a great crew to ride with. We went out to Willow Beach overlook and I had to scram back for work I think they were going on down to the beach. Anyway, I am pretty much done with long rides till after the new year. The XB is just vomiting too much oil to go for long rides till I get these gaskets changed.
See ya all later,
Nick
