It's not a Buell...

But enjoy riding the EBR!
Wish we had a dealer over here : (

I think you guys are going to have a great time. Wish I were there to try out the SX.

Hey, Bart,
Do you have any suggestions for a dealer over there? I can pass on.

Ghostrider and Arizona Buell -- Thank you again for the information a couple of weeks ago. It worked out great! Got to go up Mt. Lemmon with Art and the ride was instantly one of my favorites.

Good conversation and meal with Art who introduced me to Ironhorse Motorcycles in Tucson. Ended up stopping by and talking with Jim Richardson while I was drooling over the new EBRs to include and SX that they had just received.

Jim was kind enough to offer a test ride of the RX and I didn't pass up the opportunity. WOW! He suggested a trip back up Mt Lemmon and I took him up on it. Phenomenal ride!!! When I buy my future EBR AX, I will return here to get it. Great team there.

Am looking to do a day ride this next weekend in the Tucson area if anyone is interested. I can't make the 8 SEP run to Scottsdale due to some school constraints.

Thank you again and I am looking forward to catching up with guys!

Great time tonight. The Top Spoke guys were awesome!! They gave us a tour of the facility, filled out our waivers and sent us out on the RX one by one. No guide rider or specified route... Just have fun. The SX hadn't arrived yet. Plus They stayed open several hours late just to let us check out the bike.

I must say the 1190 is very refined compared to my 1125. It's smooth and quiet and VERY fast.

Only had 20ish miles on it but I think we all rode it hard. The traction control was set at 3 and it was for sure preventing wheelies. Really fun. Can't wait to go back and do another ride on it! With the group aspect we all kinda rushed our rides so the next guy could get on it (except Mark...he took forever. : ))

Anyone who missed it should get over there and talk to Jason. He'll hook you up with a test ride. 480-829-1903

Way to go Nick , just throw me under the bus as an EBR hog :-) I did get to put a few extra miles on the new bike and I guess the first thing you will notice is it has double the ponies of my 99X1 .
For me the pegs are a bit high and some thought they were too narrow , I had no issue with them being narrow and the shifter and brake fit me well with riding boots.
It took a little getting used to the clutch and throttle as the throttle had some free play and the bike needed some revs to get rolling.
I would think it better to have a test ride at a track or somewhere not so city streets. I did get on the freeway and could easily get through traffic with a quick wick of the throttle .
In all it is a nice ride , this bike had like 25 miles when we started so not gonna push the tires. Maybe the traction control had something to do with taking off I don't know as I have no experiance with that.
Top Spoke ,Eagle Rider was friendly and invited us in and made us feel very welcome. I would not hesitate to go see them if I needed too.

Yeah, I agree with everything said above. Top Spoke/Eagle Rider is a very nice shop and everyone was VERY friendly and welcoming. They normally close at 5pm and our gig didn't start until 6:30p, so they did stay quite late to accommodate us.

The bike is obviously very sexy. Having never ridden the 1125 prior to getting on the 1190, I didn't think it was so quiet. There was quite a bit of odd engine chatter, IMO. It was later pointed out that it has a slipper clutch, which I've not experienced before, so maybe that was the chatter. I noticed it mostly on the downshifts/deceleration.

I thought that the bike had good power, but not the same low end pull that my 9R has. Seemed like you had to get it up in the power band for it to pull, but then it pulled pretty hard, I thought. I did some 4th, 5th, and 6th gear roll-ons since I was on the freeway a bit and it responded quickly and strongly. I only found one freeway interchange curve to take and it handled that easily enough. Nick seemed to know where the curves were and took it there, so he'd know better how it handled there.

I kept looking over my shoulder for the law. The mirrors, just like the original XB9R mirrors, are worthless. Great view of my elbows but not anything behind me. I was quite paranoid because I'd twist the throttle and then eventually look down and see that I was going 90 in 4th gear and wonder when I was going to get arrested. (I don't know if it was due to the floods, but the law was out in force yesterday. All the way up and back from Tucson was a swarm of Highway Patrol.)

The pegs are higher and the bars lower, pitching your whole body further forward. I assume that's to keep the weight on the front, possibly prevent wheelies, etc. I found the peg position narrow, but once I adjusted to it, it was fine. I could see myself spending a 300 mile day in the mountains with this bike, but wouldn't be too keen on droning the interstate with it.

Troy: I'm off Saturday if you want to meet up and ride. Ping me later and we'll work something out.

EVERYONE ELSE:
We talked about taking the group out and actually going riding!! I know!!

Let's make a plan and set it up. Now that it's not 114 and Nick found his jumper cables, maybe you guys can put some miles on your bikes. I'll even ride an extra hundred miles each way to meet up with you guys and ride. Mormon lake was suggested. So was Jerome. I don't care where as long as it's curvy and quick.

ART!!

Sounds good to me. I'm down for something more scenic and possibly farther afield. This way, Troy will have seen some more of Arizona.

I've recently done rides to Tombstone and Bisbee. They are ok, but kind of a droning ride.

I've heard that the road to Arivaca may be nice. What do you know? Or maybe Vail-Sonoita-Patagonia? I've heard there are a lot of cops around Patagonia.

We could go the other way. Winkelman, Globe, etc. Depends how far people want to go. It's nice up in the mountains, but it's kind of a hike. If we start early, we could be out by Payson by lunchtime. Maybe someone from the Phoenix area would actually jump start their bike and meet us.

I'll let you guys tell me. I may bring a buddy on his Star cruiser. He's been known to scrape a floorboard or two. Not quite like you Art, but close!

Under further review of the Arivaca discussion... I would like to suggest a triangle round trip originating from Tucson out to Arivaca then up to Kitt Peak and return Tucson.

Recommend meeting at the Waffle House off I-10 and West Starr Pass (next to Super 8) at 08:00am tanked up, fed and ready to go.

709 W Starr Pass Blvd, Tucson, AZ 85713

...and then here is my proposed route:

Dist/Time
Tucson to Arivaca ----- 64 miles / 1:20
Arivaca to Kitt Peak -- 73 miles / 1:35
Kitt Peak to Tucson --- 55 miles / 1:10

I have been told by several fellows here in Marana that the Kitt Peak ride is very worthwhile. It has a nice 12 mile stretch to the top (6,875ft). Snacks and beverages may be purchased at the Visitor Center. There are no food services found on the mountain. We could pack a lunch since there are plenty of picnic tables on the summit and a picnic grounds 2 miles away.

There are tours (if interested) of the facility. Guided Tours last approximately 1 hour and are led by trained docents who know the history and interesting facts regarding each telescope. Normally, the tours go to the following telescopes; 10am the world’s largest solar telescope, 11:30 the 2.1 meter telescope and 1:30 the 4-meter Mayall Telescope (tour last 1.5 hours). Price per person for a single tour is seven dollars.

In the interest of maximizing the day, why don't we meet at 0800 at Bisbee Breakfast Club on Ina just west of Thornydale? From there we can get just about anywhere. It's close to 77 so we could go north. It's close to 10 so we could go south or wherever. If we meet at 0800, we have the whole day to get somewhere cool.

Thoughts?

I vote for the waffle house meeting place as it is central to me since I live on the far east side. But the rest of the route is fine by me, although I may have to bail on the Kitt peak segment as I have to be home by 1300.

We could do it reverse and hit Kitt Peak first... ? That way Art can get have a nice twisty ride in and make back on time, then GR and I can make a day of it and head south. Let me know.

Great ride today around southern Arizona to include Kitt Peak (world's largest Solar Telescope), Arivaca (for lunch) and finally back into Tucson to visit Saguaro National Park.

Thank you CJ, Todd and Art for the hospitality!

Pictures from the day...

It was a nice day. After riding up and down Kitts Peak Observatory, Art had to get home for his honey-do list. The rest of us went south to Arivaca... just because. Things were going well until we got into the 'whoop-ti-doos' down there. Basically, the washes all cross the road down there at many locations. A lot of them were clear and I wasn't thinking too much about it. We were going along at about 70mph when I topped a small rise and nearly shit. The wash had dumped a small beach across the road, at least four feet across and shoulder to shoulder. There was nothing to do but pucker up and deal with it. We just stood up on the pegs and held on tight. Suspension bottomed hard but nobody went down.

Naturally, we took it a bit easier after that. Crossed several more that were sandy or wet, but nothing too crazy. About a half-mile from Arivaca, we see a car coming the other way flashing his lights at us furiously. So, we slow down. Good thing, too. This is what we found over then next hill:

We survived. Todd took a video, but it's 25megs and I haven't worked on it yet.

After lunch in Arivaca at the one place to eat, we just took the freeway back to Tucson. Todd peeled off and Troy and I rode out to Kinney Rd and up to the Saguaro National Monument. That's a nice ride, but some of those washes are also messy. We came back over Gates Pass Rd, which would be nice, but it's full of cars.

Great day riding! Thanks, guys!!
