Just thought I would let you guys know that I've finally started to bring my '84 Honda Ascot back to life. Back in 04, it started leaking oil from behind the water pump, a failed seal. Engine has to be removed to gain access for repair. Started tearing it down last weekend and once I disconnect the driveshaft, I can pull the motor out. Started cleaning the carbs yesterday. Gas tank was sent to Moyer tank renu a few years back for rust repair. I'll be sending the headers and heat shields out for a jet-hot coating. Also have a new decal set and scored a rare NOS Hondaline luggage rack off Ebay. Really lucky on that one. The seat will be sent to Sargent's for new foam and cover. I'm going to paint the bodywork myself. Lots of steam cleaning to do while the bike's in pieces. I thought it was going to be a real pain, but it's a fairly easy bike to work on. With less than 16,000 miles on the clock, this fun bike deserves to be back on the road again. Can't wait to take it up to the Parkway. It's been a long time coming. If all goes well, it should be back on the road by mid summer. Hopefully sooner. Later!

It's been quiet while I was gone...

So we're gonna do a guessing game...

I recently had a business trip to a major metropolitan area in the US, which I took a vacation day to check out 2 truly interesting areas in that state with a lot of history. After checking out the pictures below, does anyone have any guesses where those 2 areas were and what state I was in?

Not one of the major attractions, just a cemetery on the way the GPS took me:

01 Graves

The next few are from one of the major attractions, hopefully there's not enough info to give away what it is:

02 Cemetery 1

03 Cemetery 2

04 Cemetery 3

This memorial might give away the first location:

05 Memorial

This statue could also be a pretty big hint on the first location:

06 Statue

The pictures above cover my first area of interest, while the picture below alludes to my second are of interest (and should give a good hint to where...):

07 Experimental Roadster

Any other pictures I could post would easily produce the answer with a quick websearch, but then again some of the pictures offer some pretty good insight and could ultimately do the same.

Any guesses (except for Webe who called me while I was at the first place of interest)?

Looks like Salem, MA to me. I rode up there this summer ... and on to NH, VT, NY, PA ...

Looks like Salem, MA to me.

DING! DING! DING! We have a winner!

Well half right. Salem, MA was the first point of interest.

Salem Witch Museum

John Hathorne

Point of interest #2 was in Springfield, MA. From 1901-1953, the home of Indian Motorcycles.

Indian Motorcycles Apartments

Somewhere between 2 and 3 dozen - I lost count... - Indian Motorcycles were only display from all eras (except the revivals from the 90's to now) and styles:

Museum

Early Indian

utility box

Military

Four Cylinder

Even a couple of Indian boat motors and an Indian airplane engine. If H-D made an airplane, would you fly in it? Sorry, couldn't resist... Plus they had a couple handfuls of vintage bikes from the teens and 20's, some of which were even Harley's. In fact, the first bike I came upon was a H-D Servi-Car.

H-D at the Indian Museum - WTF?

Now that I've redeemed myself for that not-so-nice H-D comment...

I wonder what things would be like nowadays if Indian would've been the victorious one,

I really enjoyed Salem and poking around Spooksville. I thought the monument to the hanging victims was pretty eerie. Glad you got to go there.

I had a little personal business to take care of in Statesville yesterday afternoon:

My ulterior motive for choosing Tilley's as the place to meet up!

LH 02

I took the afternoon off as vacation, got to Tilley's about 4:15 or so, spent maybe 30 minutes at Tilley's taking care of my business and checking out LH, and made it home about 9:30 last night - after making a couple of quick pit stops on the way home...

Hey Brankin, I KNOW I've seen the angel from a movie scene, but my memory is failing and can't remember. Love the Indians. Thanks for sharing!

Ascot motor will be repaired and bolted back in by next weekend. 10 days from Babbitt's...not pleased with the pick and ship.

Wouldn't you know it.

One of the few days I decide to ride the V-Rod to work, and another Buell shows up in the parking lot:

Blue Baby Buell

To those who know more about the Blast!, Is the carb 'boot' the weak link on all of them, or just those with aftermarket air cleaner setups?

Anything else they need to keep an eye on?

I finally woke up sleeping beauty after a nine year slumber. Smoke filled the shed burning off the lithium grease from the exhaust gaskets and the Ascot was firing on both cylinders sounding awesome! It was terrific. But, one of the carbs is leaking gas pretty bad so I'll be sending them out for a total rebuild. JB2 has agreed to repaint it for me later this summer. Still have lots of work to do, but I'm pretty sure it will be back on the road sometime in September. It's gonna be one purty bike.

Please do, but hopefully it won't be too soon. I'm in the wet Wisconsin wonderland right now - at least it ain't white right now... - and on Saturday I fly to Germany for about a week long business trip (with a little fun mixed in of course). Fly back to Milwaukee and ride back to NC should put me back at the homestead late Tuesday, June 11th - unless jet lag forces me to make it a 3 day trip back to NC.

I know it's Memorial Day weekend in Wisconsin, but please make the rain go away...

Serviced the bike and changed tires this weekend. Took a quick three hour ride towards the coast today trying out the new Pirelli Scorpion Trails. I think I will like them.

Char - I have to go to Ohio for work this coming weekend, the next weekend is graduation weekend, weekend after that we are heading to Boone for orientation at Appalachian State University. So if you are coming this way, will be tide up for a while.

Heading out in the am to Ill.! have a route planned that I'll possibly be able to do the IB1000, we will see! gonna try to be at deals gap by noon, then it only gets flatter from there.
Course I may wait and do it on the return trip that way I'm alert in the flat parts and getting adrenaline later in the ride.

So U4euh,

How'd your motorcycle adventure go? Were you successful in the IB1000? Please share details with us.

I just posted some pics and a little test over in the Tale Section regarding my trip to Homecoming, followed by a business trip to Germany and vacationing in Germany and Austria.

Hopefully your adventure was enjoyable!

Decided not to attempt it! I was so excited about the trip that I didn't sleep well the night before leaving. So instead of getting up at 5am I was finally falling asleep at 5am!!! I did get on the road about 10 that morning and headed for Deals Gap. 10 miles outside of Lexington the sungods went to sleep and mother nature released her fury on me, and it was a frog strangler, all the way to 129. Magically when I started up the mountain just past the Fontana dam it cleared up!!!! The resort was packed as it was the 4th. Dragon was wet the first half, after you crested and started down towards the lookout, it was starting to dry out, so a moderate pace could be maintained. Met up with a group from Ontario, being led by a guy on a XB12, and the guy in the back was on a Z1000, same color as my old one! We played for a couple of laps and I had to part ways, only after filling up on one of those great cheeseburgers the café was offering! Well getting on the highway in Marysville proved that mother nature was not through with me! Only this time she had 4 garden hoses pointed at me, should I say fire hoses, not the firetruck kind. The kind that your local international airport uses to douse the flames on say a 747!! I swear at one point the bike hydroplaned! It rained and rained and rained, all the way to the Ohio river. I guess at that point she figured I had had enough, the skies opened up to reveal the most beautiful hue of blue that I have ever seen. Because these are the plain states that sky seem to go on forever! As darkness descended on me an amazing thing started happening. Every town that rode past on the highway started their fireworks show. So after entering Illinois, I literally had a 2 hour fireworks show.
The Concours performed flawlessly throughout the whole trip, at times running triple digits for loooong periods of time. The amount of rain I rode in, the only way to stay dry was to be in a cage, Wouldn't have mattered what bike you were on. Frogg Toggs rain gear works, period! Alpine WaterProof touring boots, not so much, hence the puddle of water I poured out of them after reaching my motel. The new Michelin C3's, I don't think I'll ever buy a different tire. After almost 3000 miles, roughly 1900 on this trip, thet still look great.
Unfortuanatley with all the rain, the only pictures I took were at the Dragon, Ill spare you those, Killboy has some, I'm on the Concours with the red and black Scorpion helmet, July 4th.
