I want to get a Yamaha WR450 or a DRZ, but I don't have the cash right now. Maybe soon.

Was at Pj's this weekend, and those Huskies arent too bad looking either. specifically the Terra. Don't know much about how they handle, but I'm sure someone can chime in? Also was looking at the Tiger 800xc and the Explorer. One of the sales reps said they were coming out with a more dirt oriented explorer for 2013... might be worth looking into... but then again if Bart keeps talkin about that Super Ten... I might have to take a look at a Yamaha shop. No idea if I will be able to afford another bike by next year, but it may be possible.

I put 100mi on a Terra so far. About 40 off road. Also with a passenger on-board while off-road. All the bike you need for off-road touring.

I looked at all the others and I simply did not want another expensive road bike that I intend to off-road often. For me the Terra was the best in its class.

The Terra has excellent suspension set-up for off-road that also has good on-road manners. Besides suspension, the BMW thumper motor has been upgraded with better, lighter internals and produces more power, revs faster, and maintains reasonable highway speed.

Based on features, specs, and performance...it beats the others at a very reasonable $7k price point. IMHO

The only design downer...the sidestand is a little awkward. It wants to be up when weight is off of it...almost an auto-retracting design.

It's a fun bike without spending lots of cash. BMW/Husqvarana, Touratech and others are gearing up with ADV gear for it. Also, I am certain fueling and exhaust changes should get even more power out of it.

If you are looking for a long distance, mostly road oriented, two-up or luggaged-out ADV bike, go with a mid-size (F800GS would be my pick) or bigger (KTM, BMW, Triumph).

If you want to just go find dirt roads, visit ghost towns, battlefields, and remote mountain passes...commute, save gas, and not spend lots of $... get the Husqkie.

Yeah, after driving that Uly around all over the place, when I'm ready for the ADV bike, I'm 99% sure I'm going mid size. Since the Yamaha 660 Tenere is not available here, it's really between the F800GS and the Triumph Tiger 800XC.

I'll have to look at the Husqvarnas. They have a good reputation and appear to be pretty well made.

The Terra (and Strada) shares many parts with the BMW G bikes. So even if you can't find a Husqkie dealer, the BMW dealer can get some important spare bits...

BTW: the F800GS has better low end torque and considered better off-road...

Nick, do you still have those cycle pirates pegs on your 1125? if so, how does the finish hold up on them?

No - sold them on eBay. They were wearing OK - no serious issues.

I believe Brandon still has them on his race bike. You should ask him.

I got to ride an 800XC up through Sipapu, Mora, to Angel Fire. It is very nimble, I liked the handling, and it was pretty comfortable. I thought it felt kind of anemic though. guess I was expecting more from a triple. But then again, it is an 800cc...
I'm sure it would be more fun with a power commander, and an exhaust system.
The Beemer seems like a great bike all around. I've not had a chance to ride one yet : (

I got to ride my dad's new Husqvarna Terra this last weekend. I really liked the way it handled. I didnt do much with it, but it seems nimble and fun to ride, at least on the streets. I didn't get a chance to take it in the dirt, but I cant complain.

That sounds fun... My back is finally feeling a bit better, so I may get out and ride some. Colder than a well digger's ass when I'm on the way to work, AND when I'm on the way home!!

Anyone interested in trading an 03 XB9R for one. Bart do you still have the DR?

No, the DR is gone. I have a DRZ now, and I just picked up an XR400. I will be out playing in the snow on it today...

Happy New Year everyone!!!

Josh, Havent noticed the Zero, but PJs had a Zero Police bike that they were riding around their parking lot a couple weeks ago, but havent seen any in town. It is kind of strange to see them because they dont make any sounds...you kind of have to take a double take at it.

Bart, looks like you had fun playing in the snow. Did you make any 2 wheeled snow angels??

CJ, Glad your back is feeling better. Ever find out what was up with it in the first place?

I finally sold the CBR and it was picked up on Sunday. There seems to be a certain emptiness in my garage now. for now it is more room to work on my 1125R, but maybe later room for an enduro... only time will tell.

yes, I did make a few snow angels. There were drifts over 3' I had to blast through, and quite a few icy patches. ; )

Give up on the Enduro, your going to need that CBR money for moving and baby expenses.

Spread the tools around the 1125 out more, to give the illusion of the space being filled...

true... may be a while... and by then, I will undoubtedly be living somewhere else, so maybe I will just stick with the tool spreading method of filling my garage ; )

Hey, Bart,
Is our friend in N.W. Phoenix still working on bikes? Emailed him a while back and didn't hear back.

How are things? Freezing up here, looking forward to coming down for a couple weeks to thaw out and ride some.

Larry,
Sent you a PM with the info on Andre.
Things are good down here. In 7 months, I managed to rack up 16,000 miles on the Tenere, 2500 on the 1125, 1500 on the S2, and 1500 on the DRZ. So I guess that means I had a good riding season : )
The weather is below freezing here also, but still nice enough to ride with the right gear. ; )

Enjoy the weather when you come down, I see it's been in the 50's over there in PHX. Perhaps I'm due for a ride out there also...

Adam,
If it will help, I can store one of my bikes over there. With my little girly car, and the hot tub, my garage is starting to feel kind of cramped. This can help you feel like all is well in your garage once again ; )

A ULY is a dualsport? About as much as my 1125 is! LMFAO!
If a ULY is a dualsport, take that bad boy up and over them Colorado passes with me next summer!

I don't think I ever said the uly was a dual sport, however, some have put knobby tires on and taken them off the beaten path. It is tall and has a lot of clearance and the riding posture similar to a dual sport. I was offering my services in the event someone wanted to see if a tall bike fits their riding style. I'm sure you are here to make an ass of yourself as usual, so go ahead.

: ( My wife & I put a whopping 8997 miles on the bikes in 2012. 2000-3000 of that was before we moved from Albuquerque to Seattle.

I think the 1125 needs a battery tender, and the others might too. : (

Josh, apparently you don't know that CJ has a ULY?

The fact that I am an azzhole, and have a low tolerance for idiots and morons, is well known throughout this forum.

And as for making an ass out of themself, you seem to be doing just fine...

Didn't know he had a Uly, I meant to say Adam, my bad. I can't help but notice that whenever someone is losing an argument they revert to name calling. If you have trouble dealing with idiots and morons, for gods sake stay away from mirrors or any other reflective surface!!!!

I don't believe you know the difference between opinion and fact. Too bad, you could have some useful knowledge. Your posts contain as much fact as they do pizza.
