Sunday afternoon I was rear-ended by a car on my x1 after I stopped at a ped/bike path crossing to allow a roller blader who was already in the road and two bikes to cross.

I was told by someone after that I bounced 3 times on the bike but all I recall is being launched up, landing on my ass on top of the tank/bars, at which point I felt my back cave. I some how got my legs over the handle bars and landed on my feet like some sort of ninja bull rider move but promptly hit the ground with a fractured vertebrae.

Moral of the story, don't stop for roller bladers.

If any of you guys have any tips or have been through this thing before and have any suggestions on how to best handle insurance, etc, I'd appreciate the feedback. Obviously I'm not at fault and I'm expecting they will total the bike, although it did hold up surprisingly well. I just want to make sure I am compensated as fully as possible, and the parts I have into the bike are taken into account.

Also, I need to find a new ride, if you guys see a standout x1 or xb12s, let me know!

Wow. Hope you're feeling better soon. I swear I see more and more people not paying attention when they drive everyday.

X1, I hope you get compensated for your bike right away, but don't sign off on the medical. Back trouble can last a lifetime. The last I recall, you've got six years from the date of the accident to file a claim for injuries. I hope you got the witnesses to give statements. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
