Hey guys,

We have the Southwest Buell Rally coming up August 19, 20, 21 in Durango, CO and I need to get a quick head count of who may be attending:

I just got the rates from Durango Mountain Resort. I think this is pretty good and she's sending me a contract. Need you guys to sound off about it and confirm you're attending:

At Purgatory Village, they offer:
King Room - $83 plus tax, plus $13 resort fee
Studio for 2 - $90 plus tax, plus $14 resort fee
Studio for 4 - $98 plus tax, plus $15 resort fee
1 bedroom condo (sleeps 4) - $121 plus tax, plus $15 resort fee
2 bedroom condo (sleeps 6) - $182 plus tax, plus $18 resort fee

There are many of these rooms available. Also, she quoted me some condos in other buildings that sleep many people each, but there are only one or two of each available and they're much more expensive (but not necessarily on a per person basis).

I need to get some numbers ASAP. I have to fill at least five rooms per night for two nights for the pricing to stick, otherwise, they'll revert back to standard pricing.

Let me know. Thanks.

OK, I made the final arrangements today for the hotel for the Durango trip.

We'll be staying at Durango Mountain Resort. They can be contacted at 970-247-9000. After 12pm tomorrow, our group rate will be loaded and ready to book. Ask for the Southwest Buell Rally.

The rooms and rates are as above:
King room: $83 plus $13 resort fee
Studio for 2: $90 plus $14 resort fee
Studio for 4: $98 plus $15 resort fee
1 BR: $121 plus $15 resort fee
2 BR: $182 plus $18 resort fee

These are all at the Purgatory Village Hotel. Dates of stay are check in on 8/19, stay two nights, depart 8/21.

In response to the inquiry about routes up to the event: I don't know. If people want to meet up and ride up as a group, we can do that. If people have peculiar schedules and need to arrive earlier or later, they can certainly go up on their own. I agree that going up through Chama and Pagosa is much more scenic and enjoyable. Given the time, I'd opt for that too. However, if I'm working that day (which I might), I might have to take the speed route up US550.

Ping me with questions or concerns.

well... being this is the last year for the WV Buell Rally... we may have a few riders that need a place to ride to next August.
I've never been to Colorado...

it has become something way more than what it was ever intended to be.

Don't get me wrong... we are having a blast but now the support staff (my family and friends) are full bore busting their butts cooking and setting up and stuff.... and my Dad feeds everyone out of his pocket.... not bad when you have 8 but we have been in the high 40's to 60 peeps showing up for the last 3 years.
He loves doing it... so much so, he is having a vintage car show in his front yard this year.... I put out the "Donate Bucket" and we have raised enough money to buy new jerseys for a local football team and last year we sent E.B.R. some green backs to help with the racing effort.
Its been a great run but I want to end it while its still fun... Plus its time to see a different part of the country.
Stand by for something.... what.. I don't know... but I'm sure I'll be riding someplace and I hope I can drag a few Buellers with me

Well, you could spend a week in Colorado and never get bored. And never see the same pavement twice. And meet a ton of cool Buellers. Be sure to ping me when you guys get out this way. Lots of cool curves to show you.

Wayne, if you're coming up from Austin, that's more than a one day ride. I did Austin to Albuquerque last week and it took me a while, something like 12-13 hours. I had to stop every two hours or so for gas. You might want to ride up Thursday, stay in Albuquerque Thursday night, and then ride up to Durango on Friday with some of us. The routes up there are part of the fun.

Reiver is staying with me. I recommend pinging Bartimus about bunking at his place on Thursday night. Not sure who else is looking for a roommate in Durango, but we'll probably be able to find you someone. Check the NM thread in StormFronts for some more people who may be looking.

Look forward to seeing you guys!

Ah... the scenic route! I took what I perceived to be a more direct route via Brady, Sweetwater, Lubbock, Clovis, Ft. Sumner, Santa Rosa, Albuquerque.

Enjoy the ride!

Ghostrider: Can you tell me a little about what this trip is? What everyone does? Me and my g/f would like to come down for at least one night. We would be coming from Colorado Springs.

This is a relatively small rally that we've been doing for several years. Folks generally ride in on Friday from wherever they're from. There are two main groups, one from Colorado (mostly Denver, but some from the Springs and other areas), and one from New Mexico (mostly around Albuquerque with a few from Santa Fe and other spots). We meet up in the target town on Friday night, have dinner on own (but generally together), hang out and socialize (have a few beers), etc.

Then on Saturday, we get up and have breakfast and meet up between 0900-1000 for a riders meeting. We typically have a group ride route picked out but there are generally a few that prefer to ride on their own to see what they want to see. We ride to a pre-determined spot for lunch, then back to the hotel area. It's generally a loop ride.

Saturday night we have a big group dinner, usually in a restaurant that we've warned we were coming. Meals are on own, but we like to eat together, talk, tell war stories, etc. The group is predominantly Buells, but there are a few other brands, too. (Those are usually guys who've owned Buells but have moved on to other bikes.) We have t-shirts for the event, $25/ea. We also give out awards: Oldest Buell/Highest Avg Mileage; Toughest Rider/Best Blast; Most Farkled/People's Choice; Furthest distance traveled to the rally; etc. In the past, we've had some swag to give away. Stuff donated by our sponsoring dealership (Santa Fe HD/Buell), or by BRAG or BMC. With HD killing Buell, there isn't much in the way of swag anymore.

Sunday is a day to do what you want and make your way home. There are typically lots of scenic rides to and from the rally location, which is one reason why we choose those locations. (The other reason is variety.)

In 2006, we were in Santa Fe. 2007 was in Taos. 2008 was also in Taos. 2009 was a moving rally with one night in Pagosa Springs and the next night in Gateway, CO. 2010 was in Red River, NM. This time is Durango. We'll have to brainstorm as a group to see what we want to do for 2012. We've toyed with Silver City, NM, Ruidoso, NM, Lake City, CO, etc.

Last year we had about 40 bikes. In 2009 we had about 10. Just depends on who's available, I guess.
