Cooool. Yet another way to chat about Buells and make believe I'm working.

Check out http://www.saintjohn.nbcc.nb.ca/Marriott/x1/ It's a damn good website called "The X1 files". The info is aimed at X-1 owners, but a lot of the info is generic to all Buells.

There's an absolutely GREAT little piece in it about why ride a Buell. Comparing the Buells to Corsairs (the WW II fighters in the Pacific theatre).

Hey, is lane splitting legal here in MI?

Hey,
According to the Buell web site, MotorCity Buell in Farmington Hills is open until 7pm Monday nights, is that correct? I'm going to be over in Dearborn on Monday and thought I'd try to stop in there after I get free. Assuming I can get there from Dearborn before they close, probably get out of class around 5 or so. Also, any recommended places to get a bite to eat in Farmington Hills?
MikeJ.

Mikej: I'll ping an e-mail to you just in case, but... "yes" Motor City is open each weeknight 'til 7 pm. It'll be an awkward trip from Dearborn (no easy way to get from there to there), but you should make it before closing if you're on the road a little after 5. Even w/ all the rush hour traffic.

Can't help much about a place to eat over there. While that's where I got my bike, I don't live or play out that way.

If you'll be in the Motor City for a bit and can venture up to Royal Oak/Birmingham/Southfield area, lemme know and I'll join you for a brew and a bite and another brew.

Hey Mikej, if you can put off your trip until Tues. swing over to Shields afterwards and hang out with the rest of us climate frustrated folk. B.S. starts @ 7:30 'til ? Shields is at the N.W. corner of Telegraph and 10 Mile.

Bummer,
I've got an AM meeting Tuesday, then head to the airport right after noon. I'm looking for something to do Monday night though.

Then there's that event you folks have planned in May. I've got that marked on the calendar in case I can schedule any training or meetings that I "should" go to around then. Might even be fun to ride the bike over then, but not too sure about leaving it overnight in a hotel parking lot. Maybe I'll just fly in, and get a rental car. Will they let me do the BattleTrax in a rental car????? I could probably get it up on 3 wheels.

Mikej - I meant to ask you before... 10K on a 2000 M2? Whoa! Where don't you ride! Been on some serious trips and/or do you use it for everything from commuting to work and grocery shopping?

I see you have a tank bag. Do you have saddle bags too? If so, whadda ya think of the ones you have? I've been contemplating a bag of some sort and have been leaning toward the Buell saddle bags for my '00 M2.

Mike J, the best way to get from Dearborn to the dealer is as follows: Ford Road(east) to Telegeraph(north) to Grand River(west. Stay on Grand River, the dealer is about 1.5 miles west of Farmington Rd.. When you are done at the dealer, proceed back down Grd River (east), make a right (south) on Farmington Rd. there is a place called Pages at the end of 1st block (west side/on the right) that is pretty good to eat. Too bad I didn't see the note eralier, probably could have planned to have dinner. Where are you coming in from? We have special rates negotited at Ramada Inn Southfield (about 1/2 mile from event site) (248)368-6130. Several folks (including all the HD/Buell personnel) stayed there. They are very accomodating w/bikes and understand the security requirements. Please do attend if possible, it's a great event. Hope you got this note in time and can make it to the Buellfest. If not, let us know when you will be in town.

Hey Buellers! Anybody gonna be in Daytona during Bikeweek? I'll be at the Adams Mark hotel and can be paged at (313)684-2557. So far I know that myself, Kozy and Cafe Ray will be there. If I don't see you in Daytona, hopefully tomorrow night at Shield's I plan on starting the M/C HD BRAG meetings in the middle of March. Take care.

Mikej is in town tonight. I've left a mssg for him at his hotel to give me a ring and we'll hook up to talk bikes and other stuff. All others are welcome to join in if we get in touch w/ each other. Give me a call later on (5:30-ish?) and I'll let ya know what's the deal. 248-225-5175.

Well,
I made it up to Motor City Buell/H-D. Only problem was all the bikes there are all sold already it seems. I did notice a couple of the Blasts they had were mounted with the new big Blast windshield. I also noticed at least 5 bikes on the roads, and not one Buell (where were you guys?).

Sorry I missed you H-Man. After I left Motor City I found a used book store and got lost in there for awhile. Then by the time I found some dinner and made it back to the hotel it was getting late and I had to get up early for a meeting. Next time. I did drive past that Shields place FlyinFlynn mentioned above.

Let's see, you asked about mileage and saddlebags. Mileage? I didn't think I had that many miles on it considering I got it in Aug. 1999. Just local riding miles. I put the Ventura rack on the M2, and then just picked up a set of saddlebags a week or two ago. The saddlebags work fine sitting on the floor in the bedroom (haven't used them yet :) ). I need to modify or fabricate the rear holderbar that comes with the bags since it seems to have a conflict with how the Ventura rack mounts. I'm thinking I'll just modify the stock rear reflector sideplates and use those to secure the rear of the saddlebags. I haven't looked at it too closely yet though.

MileageMike (I just noticed I'm the only one in this section not using a nickname),
Anyway, I'll probably know late March to mid April if I can make it to the Buellfest. If I have another overnighter to Dearborn before then I'll request the Ramada to check it out. (Plus the Holiday Inn's elevators are getting spooky, one was out of commission, and the other two make funny noises.)

Take care folks. I'm tired.
Mike(do I dare resurrect one of my old nicknames)J

Mikej, I'm glad all worked out okay for ya. If you're into used books, then next time you're here (and have time) you'll have to check out King's Used Books in Detroit. That place must have about 50,000 titles on 3 floors.

Yeah, we tend to have nicknames over here. One of the guys was just dubbed "Bad Andy" last night at the weekly gathering of our coven.

Well, take care and feel free to give any of us a heads up next time you're in the area.

Hell! Why are we such a closed mouth group?

MilageMike, I was going to paste your invitation for this Sunday here, but I inadvertently zapped it. Oh well.

To all who'll go riding this weekend, be safe and have a grin for me. I've got Reserve duty. Damn!

Hey MM, anything new about BOSS availability at M-C? Will they be prepared to do installation (w/o leaving the bike there more than a day)?

I'm getting reeeeal close to deciding to plunk the money down for one. Just a couple of other things to line up first. Like you'd noted, it doesn't take long to get over the need to "justify" mods and upgrades to an otherwise perfectly fine bike.

Just got out of a meeting and caught a glimpse of the weather outside. So much for a group ride this w/e. From what I hear, the temp is projected to be a high of 40.

Think of it as Nature's way of tellin' you "Ya gotta take the H-man witcha on your rides" :-)
