I agree with CJ. I'm still fond of that emblem, still haven't warmed up the the Erik Buell Racing "pissed off" Pegasus...
The font and text look fine. |

here are a few other options. sorry for the size... the images are pretty big on here. I saved them at 3 inches...but apparently they are larger. I changed it up a bit so you can see some of the other options I can do... I can change colors as well, but figured the yellow went with the red zia like our state flag...

The only issue with them is the Buell Logo. we may run into some copyright issues, but I think as long as we arent claiming to be Buell, and arent profiting off of it, we should be fine. |

I like the one with the pegasus inside of the circle, and the one with the two pegasus facing each other, but you can leave the Buell riders group off...
As far as copyright infringements, just look down the list of groups in the storm fronts and you will see at least two groups that use the pegasus, the 3%, and the NEBO groups use the Pegasus, and have for a number of years now.
I do like the look of NEBO's, with the pegasus with the red, white, and blue in it... |

ok, most so far seem to like the last one the best, and the Buell Rider's group can and will come off, only a suggestion...do most of us like the old style pegasus vs. the newer "pissed off pegasus" ? I know where Buellnick stands, but most seem to like the older style. I can do a mock-up of the newer one as well to compare if wanted.
I still need to clean up the image a little better, and make some of the lines a little more crisp, but that is fairly simple. let me know if you guys have any other ideas. |

I also kinda like the last one. I think you should put the lightning bolt back in the center of the zia symbol, leave the two Pegasus facing each other, and rock the text back to off kilter. Having it top and bottom is just boring. Then, it'll make a really nice patch or decal. I know some places that can make them. |

I can do that... so essentially like this with the words off kilter again... I will have to wait until I get home to finalize, Paint only allows for so many options.

I know I'm not allowed to vote, but I like the third from last the best. The tail of Pegasus as a lightning bolt really looks good as a patch from the average viewing distance. A few tweaks would be needed for polish.
See, I know this design is likely to be on the next Buell Rally t-shirt you guys host down in NM. That's my stake in it!

I prefer a stern Pegasus...
The dual (small) pegasus version looks good in a high res graphic but will not look like much if/when it ends up on a shirt or patch... Bigger is better....and stern is better. Erik Buell Racing is now all about SERIOUS sport bikes...
Perhaps an upside down bar/shield with a slash through would reflect the attitude of many Buell owners....just kidding |

while I don't ride a "serious" sportbike, (I only have a Buell),
I do think it might look pretty good with the older Pegasus on the left to signify the old, and the new Erik Buell Racing Pegasus on the right to signify the new.
The lightning bolt in the middle looks good. |

I kinda like Bart's idea about the two different pegasus. Also, I think it's easier to have them one color instead of outlined in white. If we make patches, there will be a loss of detail if we outline them. The white lightning is good for obvious reasons. Reiver's idea is also a good one. |

Yeah, that sounds good. It would be nice if you could mock it up for everyone to see. Then, if they don't like it, we can go with something you've already made. I personally would like a patch and a decal or two. |

How about you put up the two "finalists" and give folks three days to vote. NM Buell riders only...of course.
OR, we can go round and round on this and continually discuss the virtues of the pegasus, lines, outlines, colors etc. without ever getting this done. |

Anyone else go riding in the light breeze Sunday? I ran the entire length of 4 on the 1125, 2-up. *grins*
And does anyone know of a good low starter bike for sale around here? My gf is getting her license this week, and I'm looking for something low for her. She's 5'3, and definitely too short for my XB9 (it's the standard height, not the SCG - she *almost* fits the lowered ones). I'm kicking around a Blast, a Ninja 250, and a few other options. I'm a bit concerned about power on the highway during the summer in the mountains, but I *think* either of those will do it tolerably, as long as speeds stay sane. |

sorry, I didnt get a chance to work on it. I got busy prepping the track bike for Sunday. I have to take it to Steve's at lunch to get my new chain put on it. I apparently dont have the proper tool needed to fasten my masterlink. I will try to work on it some tonight. |

Well, if she's interested in a sporty seating position, then maybe that Ninja 250 will work. My wife didn't like it. Also, it's relatively tall.
Another option that she will definitely fit on is the Honda Rebel 250. It's more of a cruiser, but a really solid starter bike. It's go 80mph, downhill, with a tailwind. But, so will almost all the 250's.
I recommend against the Blast because I just see them as unreliable. There are two Scg's at SFHD for sale, but that's a lot of power for a beginner. |

She likes the lines of the Ninja 250, and I'm told the pre-2009 ones are a bit lower. A Rebel may be an option, but I'm not sure maxing out at 80 makes I-40 very usable. I'd be a bit uncomfortable having a bike that topped out there, especially heading up into mountains. Supposedly the Ninjas will do a bit better, though I'm still somewhat concerned about their power output at a high density altitude. High + hot... not fun.
I'll see how she likes whatever she's on in the class - I believe they have some Rebels and other similar bikes.
I saw the Scgs this weekend, and she fit OK on them, but I agree that the '12 is a good dose of horsepower. I'm not a huge fan of that engine either, just from the "Shakes like a paint mixer at all RPMs" characteristics. I much prefer my '9.
I've considered getting the scg bits to lower my '9 for a while, but I think I'd rather pick up something specifically for her. |

The baby Ninja is underpowered (tried one). The Rebel (wife had one) is an underpowered cruiser and a bit heavy for what it is (nuf said). She will outgrow these fast. DOn't waste the money.
IMO and based on personal experience in getting the wife to ride... Check out the SCG (wife has one - thinks its great). It is not too much to handle if you don't get abrupt and crazy with the clutch and throttle.
Even better (given the fact that Buells are no longer made) check out the Ducati Monster.
The Ducati Monster 696 is already reasonably low and can be EASILY lowered with a seat change or inexpensive suspension link. I have the predecessor (a 620) in the garage and it has been reliable and fun to ride. The new 696 is even better and targets females and smaller riders. The bike is light with a low CG and has plenty of power with good torque on the low end. She will not easily outgrow this one...
Added bonus...you will also find yourself riding this bike for fun - power and handling is better than any of the beginners bikes previously mentioned. |
