Brandon, you going to do an RV site, like Kerry had last year or what? And just one day? I'm trying to figure what to do that will not cost too much.

Figured why they kept sending me the wrong part. Part catalog was wrong! Diagram was anyway. *shakes fist*

Yes! Clutch is back together and good to go, I think. Unfortunately, I got careless on this last go around and stuck the board I was using to lock the rear wheel while torquing down the hub through where the valve stem is...

Or was, I should say.

*sigh* two steps forward, one step back. Lesson learned to not get hasty, I guess.

Couldn't get the wheel off, the screw holding in the idler pulley is frozen fast. The bolt holding on the rear brake pedal was frozen, too, but I got past that by skipping it and removing the cotter pin fastening the pedal to the linkage. But no help on that idler pulley.

Going to stop and pick up some liquid wrench or something on the way home tomorrow...

Chuck, that idler pulley usually has a pretty good locktite on it and it would help if you could heat it up fairly hot, to melt or soften the locktite without ruining anything close. I use a propane torch with a small flame, and carefully heat just the head of the bolt. The heat will travel, through conduction, to the threads and soften the locktite. Take your time, it will take a while to heat the bolt enough to get it down to the threads. Carefully is the key word here! Hope this helps. Stay safe bud. Bob

Interesting they would lock it down so tight but then put in the manual "Idler pulley must be removed to remove rear wheel on this model."

: )

Testcase, isn't that the norm for just about anything you need to remove on a regular basis?the more often you need to remove it the more difficult it is!! Bob; Forward that E mail to me please,I am trying to figure out how I am going to afford tickets this year.Thanx.

Indeed, Saxon. Checking through some threads on the Uly subboard here and it looks like I can get the rear off without pulling the idler pulley, so I think I'll give that a go before I put a torch to her : )

Sure

I'm just glad it's worked out for you! I borrowed an engine lift once, for nearly a year, what a pain that project was!

Bob, I could use that race info as well.

Any of you guys ever ride the back road to Ely, NV? We've got a member out in Wendover, sounds like it could make a fun weekend to ride out there.

What ever happened with that Death Valley trip?

Jeff - Depends on the model year for the reset on the bike, I don't think it became available until the 08.

Chuck - I have a cable but lacking a laptop have not bothered to acquire the software. Brandon very graciously came down and reset mine for me once.
If you've got a laptop and want to download the software you are welcome to use my cable.

Bob - I'll PM you tonight. Been busy, sorry I missed your reply.

Are there other options than ECM Spy + cable?

(And going to the dealership?)

Ah. OK. I thought I was stuck with the cable and SW way and got excited with Jeff's response. I'll see if I can get the SW or if I was even imagining the weird throttle response once it warms up.

Well I believe there's still free software available. Someone posted a link in the old school section within the last week or two. I'll see if I can dig it up.

It wouldn't hurt for me to get the software to my pc, I will get a laptop eventually, but right now the only motivation is for working on the bike(s). Perhaps when I start taking classes again I'll be able to justify the expense.

Anyway, I built a cable, it looked like a fun little project, wasn't hard and Brandon had misplaced his. He found his but I was already fixed on sourcing parts so kept after it. I have no experience with the sw, Brandon is the expert there. Let me know if you'd like to use it. I may get out for a ride during the day tomorrow to have lunch with the wife, so could meet in the city or wherever if you want.

Correction, I think Thursday will be a better day for that. The wife works a different schedule tomorrow. Maybe we could do a tool swap, cable for the other stuff. I keep thinking you work in the city Chuck, have I got you mixed up with someone else?

I've got a few more of the bosch connectors, bought them in anticipation of making more ECM Spy cables. Order the USB cable from Mouser Electronics and we can build you your own cable if you want.

TPS reset is cake. When you DL the software, it comes with an easy to follow step action procedure. I'm not sure if it's covered in there or not, but be sure to apply slight negative throttle pressure when you back off the adjusting screw. I had Mike's backed out much further than it needed to be. There was no harm done, but it consumed an extra 45 seconds to figure out why the readout wasn't changing. I think start to finish it takes about a minute.

Chuck, she'll take a late lunch, 1-130ish, we usually got to the mall since she's just down the street from there.
You are also welcome to stop by after work, that might be easier than trying to arrange a meet up somewhere. We're usually home in the evening. I just figured I'd offer since I'll be up-town unless something comes up. Supposed to be 60 and windy, not a bad day for a ride.

Robert (Saxon59)and Mike (Littlebuggles), can you help me with finding out about a nice early season ride somewhere near Tooele. One of you guys posted a while back about a nice lower canyon ride you could make when there is still snow up higher but I cannot remember where it was or the route #.

The new Wasatch Front Cafe Riders I'm in is meeting on Saturday morning the 26th of March at SL BMW on N.Redwood Rd. for a kickoff ride and then we want to make a nice ride somewhere, weather permitting of course. That direction toward Tooele seems likely and of course you are all invited to join us.

Please let me know if you can with particulars. Almost time to ride. Lets do it!

Bob,the ride I like to take this time of year is over Johnson's Pass,it's a short but very twisty road south of Tooele. It's kind of a longish ride to get there from N.S.L. but is fun and traffic is usually light. To get there head west on I-80,take the Tooele/Grantsville exit (S.R.36)head south for about 20 miles, past Tooele, pass Stockton, the road will bear right over some railroad tracks, about 8 or 10 miles further you will see a turn off for Rush Valley.Head west through town and you are there,WATCH FOR DIRT/GRAVEL IN THE CORNERS!!There is a small parking area at the top if you want to stop and take a break, the back side of the hill does'nt get much sun this time of year so BE CAREFULL if you go past the top.I wish I could ride with you guys but because of a medical condition I havent been able to ride since Sept.: (

Anyone have a 1.125" bearing puller (for 1125 rear)?? My puller is good for 3/4" or 25mm (different mandrels). I'm sure I can work something in trade. I'd prefer an actual puller over the cave-man removal method. Thanks

Saxon-59, good to see you at the BMW-Triumph open house on Saturday Robert. It was a great event with many nice bikes and good friends. Hope we can get together to do Wolf creek one of these better days coming. Also think about Millers on Monday or Tuesday, May 2nd-3rd for an AMA test session and which Erik Buell Racing will have its 1190 testing. I'll be there Monday to get tickets and watch history being made. Stay safe and ride well, when you can. Bob
