Pretty exciting ride yesterday afternoon!

I rode up to the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge just north of Titusville. On the way back I was on US 1 southbound in downtown Titusville and just as the single lane construction opened back up to two lanes I moved into the left lane approaching a red light.

Just as I moved into the left lane a lady cut over from the right lane to enter the convenience store/gas station on my left leaving me absolutely no place to go.

I grabbed a fist full of brake and started to skid trying to turn the bike to the right so I didn't hit the car head on. What I thought was going to be an inevitable collision transpired into a prospective near miss pretty quickly and I ended up missing the car by inches literally.

I was surprised that I didn't stall the bike, but did flat spot the front tire pretty badly which needs to be replaced anyway (I think the worn tire actually helped in the situation).

I pulled over immediately to the far entrance to the c-store and looked back as the lady pulled up to a pump for gas. She was an older lady (50-60) with I think her mother in the car. I could see she was clearly upset and I drove over to the pump.

She got out of the car apologizing immediately. She initially started making excuses about the poorly marked lanes and when I looked over to the nearly new asphalt and nearly new white lines I gave her a look like "are you serious"?

She quickly changed her story and said "I didn't see you". I told her I knew that and it was OK, but please make sure to look more carefully in the future when you want to change lanes - especially when you plan to cut across two lanes of traffic (there was a left turn lane into the c-store too).

She was crying and so was her mother and I told her it was OK and all's well that ends well. She finally smiled and I told her "it sure was exciting though and to have a nice day and great holiday".

As I went around the pump island to exit the lot there were four guys sitting on the curb outside the c-store that stood up and starting clapping and cheering telling me that was some masterful driving and great entertainment. I just waved and went on my way.

I told my wife and she thinks it's time to get rid of my bike. I told her "no way". 30 years of motorcycling experience just paid for itself and I'm no worse for the wear.

I have contracted Todd Asin of Small City Cycles in Idaho to build me a Triumph custom. It will be somewhat similar to the last bike he built:
