I got to hit the track in Las Vegas with the Yamaha riding school guys! Dang, what a great time it was I learned a few new things and have some new stuff to pass on next summer. I managed to pick up some a lot more speed from day one to day two and be perfectly comfortable with it.

Nice indeed. I wish it was track season again... It was my way of relieving stress once a month.

Hey bartimus, where on the West side do you live? I am in the process of looking for my first house (that I will own), and have was hoping to find an insider's opinion on the area. Right now we have only really looked in the Ladera Heights area, but have a few more places to look at.

I'm at 98th St. and Dennis Chavez. It's pretty isolated, I'm one of the last houses on this corner of town.
Nothing out here but houses, a walgreens, and a school...
I haven't had any problems with crime, but I've only been here less than two months.
I do have spectacular views of the mountains, and there is nothing but open desert behind me.
I've seen houses in my subdivision going for some decent prices.

I, on the other hand, heartily endorse Rio Rancho. Lots of affordable homes and it's not Albuquerque.

I love rio rancho as well, but hate commuting from there to work. I lived there for a short period (with my dad)during a transition between rentals, and hated traffic from there to work (on base) I love the West side in general, but I need quick access to freeway.

Yea, living on the west side you could just shoot out dennis chavez/rio bravo to I-25 and up to gibson.
If I worked on the base, i'd prefer the northeast myself. When I lived there, it was just a quick ride down Eubank and onto the base in minutes.

There are some inexpensive and newish developments south of Juan Tabo and/or Eubank that are adjacent to the base and the neighborhoods aren't horrible. Certainly no worse than Bart's. Anything on the west side is going to be a hassle even if you're close to Paseo and/or freeway. They all back up frequently. It's not California traffic, but it's inconvenient. Depending on your price range, there are a lot of nice options in NE Heights. Do you have a realtor yet? I know a guy who's really good.

yeah, I have a realtor...he is a friend of the family, and I know he wont screw us. I finally got pre-approved through a VA loan, and now it is really just about finding the right house. Trying to stick below $170K, and there are a lot of nice places for around that price. I am not too worried, I am just trying to figure out decent areas in town that arent too far to drive to and from work each day.

Well, I was getting cabin fever, hadn't ridden much since the trip out to Phoenix on the Honda last weekend.
Got off work early today, and decided to take the CR out for a little ride. 48 degrees isn't so cold if you have good gear.
I headed up the crest road, and got a little past the ski area, before I had to turn around due to the ice.
Headed out to the Ponderosa for a burger and a beer, then headed back into town.
Not a bad ride, heated grips and a heated vest, heated pants liner, are the cat's meow in weather like this. ; )
Might go out again tomorrow afternoon, thought I would see if HWy 14 is clear or not.

Dropped my Uly today. 50 feet from my house.

I hadn't had it out in a while, and it was a pretty nice day, so I decided to take it out for a ride into town. I started it up, ran it for several minutes to warm up, got all geared up, etc. Anthony was following me on his SV650. I pulled out of the driveway, down to the stop sign, stopped while looking left, then took off right to get going. Leaned a bit, I guess, because of the turn. Next thing I know, I'm on my back and the bike is spinning away from me.

What happened is that the front tire basically locked up for no apparent reason and when I rolled on the throttle to go, I had just enough lean to pirouette the bike around the front wheel. Left really weird scrape marks on the tires where it dragged along the ground while moving around. All right side damage, mostly absorbed by the bag. The right footpeg made a nice impression in the asphalt and the right bar end held up the rest. The hand guard pulled away from the bar end and apparently hit the front brake line because there's fluid all over and coming out of that junction in the line/reservoir. Bent and broke the front brake lever. The frame and motor never touched the ground, nor did the puck. Scraped the side of the lollipop mirror.

I'm kinda pissed. On the one hand, good that it was only 50 feet from the house. On the other hand, what the F*CK?? There was nothing on the street to cause me to lose traction. No dirt, no wet spots, etc. All clean and dry.

Gear didn't even get scraped up but did it's job. I felt my head hit the pavement and my right hip is kinda sore.

So, I put it back in the garage and took the Firebolt out for the day.

That sucks! The bike threw you down because you hadn't ridden it much. ; )
You gotta switch off a little more often in the future!
Glad you still got to go out and ride. It's nice having more than one bike, isn't it?

That does suck... your tires were probably cold still, so they didnt get as much traction, and the slightest bit of dirt could have made you lose traction to the back tire... not sure as to why your front wheel locked up, that is strange.

all in all, glad you are ok (that is the most important part) and the bike didnt sustain too much damage. Hopefully you can figure out the issue.

and yes, having more than one bike is nice...although I will be turning my other one into a track-only bike very soon...

Everyone has been lobbying me to turn my Firebolt into a track bike, but I'm having none of that. That bike means too much to me to treat it like that. Track days are one thing, but permanently altering it is something else. That bike loves mountain roads!

I am doing no such thing. I know you would bring that bike home in a box before you all tracked it.

I am thinking more and more about an SV650. There was a great write up on one in last months Motorcyclist. At Sandia that would be a hot little guy.

the SV 650's are nice... especially since they are still a twin! I kinda wish I had gone with a 2 cyl for the track instead of the 4 cyl, or at least a 1000cc 4 cyl... oh well... such is life. CJ, Have you figured out anything with the uly??

No. I was going to truck it up to Santa Fe Tuesday when I was off, since it's overdue for a 5K anyway. But then decided to just wait until after the 1st. I'll have them repair the bits on the handlebar that need fixing and do the 5K at the same time. The bag is scraped up, but that's all. It didn't poke a hole in it or anything so it's just cosmetic. I can live with it. Oh, but I might have them look at the right peg. It dug a nice groove into the asphalt and was hard to move after. It's supposed to be movable and springy, but it's more like immovable and stuck.

the peg probably got bent a little... I let my friend ride my old firebolt (against my better judgment) he dropped it doing the same thing to the peg. Left a big groove in the asphalt and then I had to replace the peg because it was bent backwards a little.

Bent? Wow. In my experience they tend to break instead of bend.

the peg itself will break usually, but the mount that holds the peg often times bends.

any of you get anything good for Christmas? most of the stuff I got was for the track bike: Tire Warmers, front and rear stands, and $300 in gift certificates to Moto Authority... Going today to order new sprockets and a chain for the 520 conversion on the CBR.

interesting. I have only had the peg break... twice.

As far as Christmas goes I got a front stand to match the rear stand I bought earlier this year.

That's the only MC stuff I got.

Got Assassins Creed: Brotherhood as well. Great game so far. Those sandbox type games always wreck me for while. I love exploring.

I love Assassins creed... I just dont ever have the time to play it, and when I do have the time, I want to do something else... I should probably sell my Xbox lol.

I went to Steves store yesterday and used my gift certificates... oddly enough he had everything I needed in stock, plus some new gauntlet style gloves I didnt really need, but fit real nice ; )
