Just putting out a feeler. Biker Dave has bought back his XT from the insurance company. The real damage to the bike is the frame, handle bars, oil cooler, and right side foot peg bracket. Everything else is in good shape and he is willing to sell parts or the whole bike. For those of you who don't know Dave he was in Kentucky and was side swiped by a guy driving a truck like a butt. Dave lost his leg in the accident but says he will ride again but the Uly is not an option. Please PM me if you have any want needs or questions. Thanks Dereck

Where was everyone at?

A total of 8 started. 2 left after about 30 miles, I guess their kitchen pass was about to expire. The rest of us got in about 160-170 miles of twistes today. We started with Lars usual ride down to North Beach.
There was a low "fag" count today at Thursday's.
After lunch we did my Ft Washington ride in reverse back to Ft Washington.
Me on the M2, 1 Honda and 6 Ducati's.

Pellis,

Sorry I could not help out with the Buell count. It's fun to bookend the Duc's.

Had a great time Saturday at the inaugural MSF Experienced Riders Course. Thanks to Delta Blue for the instruction...and ShiftRedLine for the invite.

Kath's class might be next on the agenda.

I may be available for next Sunday. Keep in touch.

Well today we had 12 start the ride, 5 Buells, 3 Duc's, 1 KTM and 3 Jap something's.
Something happened today that has not happened in two years of doing this ride, someone went down.
One of the Ducati's ran wide in a decreasing radius right hander not 2 miles into the ride. The rider is OK but the bike had some damage. All 3 Duc's left the ride at this time.
Just a reminder, be careful on roads you're not familiar with.

Lars lead the rest on some new roads up to Ellicott City.
I was not on pace today, lost track of the group, I headed home once I figured out where I was. Lars will have to fill in the rest.
I'll have new tires for the next ride, as I finally have cord showing on the rear tire.

Also we saw a AA county cop setting up radar on Governor's Bridge Rd.
I also ran across one on Sands Rd on the way home. I know he had me 15 over the limit, luckily he didn't come after me.

Which reminds me Harry, they will issue tickets for 10 over on the Dragon. Have fun.

Great riding again today. Good to see guys I haven't seen in a while. Also, great to meet some new guys. A record turnout today, I think. At least for the first two miles.....

Sorry to see a DUC go off in the mud, headin' for the water!! Glad to see that Dave was not hurt. Just mud everwhere. His incident probably saved the front runners from smoking around the corner where the AA cop was setting up.

I also lost the group near Catonsville. But, I needed to head out anyhow. Lars, thanks for the exciting pace.

you guys have to slow down! That's my instructor personality talking at you! When I went riding with you guys a couple of months ago I could see it coming. You are taking too many risks!
Last week on the news there was a fatality reported on Governor's Bridge Rd.; some kids driving on the same road and one young man hanging out of the window and the vehicle they were in swiped a telephone pole the kid died.
I hope the Duc rider is okay. you guys be careful!

Hi Kathy!
Nice profile picture btw.
I don't know what roads we were on except we were near Patapsco State Park, Catonsville, some old abandoned warehouse bldgs. near a river, and on very small, hilly, and tight roads that would have been better with a ULY!

The incident with the rider going wide on a turn was not that fast. I think I was probably under 40 in that same turn

You're right about the slow down thing. It's a little bit over the top sometimes.

Brian,

The roads you're describing in the EC area must be Ilchester road and probably Hilltop road. Wish I could have made the ride. I could have met up if I knew it was going to cover roads local to my area.

Hey Tony,

Yes, I remember some road signs flashing past that may have said Ilchester. I guess we were in your backyard. We didn't know the ride route until Lars told us at the start. Maybe he can elaborate on the rest of the ride.

Thanks Brian I love my bikes : ) I love Ilchester road, new cut road, and back in the day College hills was the bomb they call it the 7 hills. Too much construction going on there now. The road to the right after you go under RXR bridge is Hill Top road it has a very steep hairpin turn and along the way on this road is some old decaying buildings, it leads to Frederick road near Candlelight inn.
I've rode them all and more on the ULY in the area.

I hate to tell you guys this, but I rode a Harley on Sunday. Forgive me Father for I have sinned! I went up to Leesburg to pick up a Harley for a friend and rode it back to DC. I did wear my Buell jacket though!

To be honest,

It was pretty uncomfortable. I kept doing a Fred Flintstone every time I stopped, because I am used to the pegs being underneath me instead of way out there in front. , So there was no relaxing, I had to concentrate on everything. It also was way short in the horsepower department. The worse thing was the brakes. I am used to Buell ZTL brakes. As you know...they STOP you. I had to use a gorilla grip to get them to slow me down. Well, the person I was ferrying the bike for, just loves it. Just not my cup of tea!

While slabbing it out to Frederick on 70 last Sunday I saw a guy wearing a Harley jacket riding a brand spank'n new BMW sport-tour. Not all Harley riders are knuckle heads.

Hey Black what was the model you were riding? I feel like Wilma when I'm riding the road king! And I tried 2 finger braking with it and almost mushed my other fingers on a down hill stop one day that really reinstated me coaching ALL 4 FINGERs when I teach the BRC. I slacked off of that coach tip when the brake technology advanced from the old drum brakes, now I coach it again because of the road king. Despite Buell being shut down they are really good running bikes. I never got mad at their motorcycles just the decision makers

Tony one trip I was on with Stayin Safe MC training, I was shadowing the class as an instructor prospect for them down in the Shanondoah mountains one year. I was on my XB9SX and has a BMW rain suit on, there was a couple riding a BMW12LT dressed in their HD rain gear! You should come and hang out at Bob's BMW one day a lot of BMW owners have Harleys!

I'm having a pretty consistent occurrence of the spark-skip mode at 70+mph speeds - even after relatively short distances (10 miles or so) and relatively cooler temperatures. I've posted on the Quick Board quite a few times and following advice have ruled out things like poor grounds and pressure on the ecm wiring. Looks like a faulty or loose Engine Temp Sensor is the next bugger to rule out. Tomorrow I'll try to order one but I understand rotating the engine is really the best approach. I have the manual but never tried this before. Taking "Car Talk" advice I'm thinking helping someone who's experienced when they do this task on their bike may be the best way to learn. I recently changed the brakes on my truck for the first time last month. Took an embarrassingly long time to do it - but I'm confident the next time I change the brakes I can do it in a fraction of time. So I'm offering my help, my tools, my garage and even "beverages" if anybody out there wants to indulge me next time they do any work requiring engine rotation. If not I'll slug it out ( and the tools/garage/beverage offer still stands if anyone needs them too). BTW - I'm in Burtonsville

Thanks

Don

Don,

I've never rotated the motor in my bike either but I pretty mechanically inclined, have plenty of tools and the manual. So if you need a hand or some moral support just let me know. I owe back some karma for all the help I got diagnosing my fuel problem at the WV Rally. I'm just up in Columbia.

Cool

Thanks Tony - I 'll be in touch. I've got to order the sensor and the special socket (Americansportbikes). Al's usually pretty quick but I'm out of town next weekend so I'm hoping to give it a whirl the weekend after that.

Plus I've really got to pull out my manual. I read a lot of older posts and some involved replacing gaskets/etc - but some didn't.
