Settle down...... Thanks for the info, I'll pull it tonight. At least it will be one more thing to cross off the list one way or another.

Shawn,

Noticed your post scanning down the new messages listing this morning. Geez I hate electrical gremlins like you are dealing with.

If it was the tip sensor, wouldn't you need to cycle the kill switch off then back on to get it to reset? Sounds like the kickstand safety switch issue I had with my Cyclone a decade ago, but no such switch on the XBikes as far as I know.

Might try swapping ECM (remember to reset TPS when you do) with another XB9 rider (remember to reset TPS when installed back on his bike too).

Kickstand switches were only on the 03 XB's if I recall correctly.

I Forgotto add ECM swap to the list. I own 2, 1 stock and 1race and both run with the exact same stutter. Also another piece of info. The bike ran so badly the other day on the way home I got 80 miles out of 3 gallons of gas before reserve kicked on! How's that for fuel economy. I generally get 130+ during a spirited ride.

Maybe a faulty ignition module? I think I have a spare that you can borrow to test. I'll be at NHMS next Tuesday/Wednesday, I'll have it with me if you want to come get it.

But you know it all so why am I telling you.

I was waiting for you to tell us what was up. Maybe we could unplug something else and wait for a red light to come on. even if it still runs.. I'm a hack and I know it, I just seem to figure it out by accident & a little common sense I guess. We'll just Call it "LUCKY"...

But anyways, YES it would cause the bad gas mileage by the way. Thinks about it. It's like saying running on one cylinder will give you better gas mileage on a V-Twin.

Your pushing fuell into the motor, without igniting it all. Hence the "Cut out". Weather it be a bad ground, wire connection, exposed wire, sensor, etc..etc..Alot of his fuel is going out the exhaust pipe. I'd be willing to say that the AFR is WAY off also, and will continue to get worse each ride.

But this is all guess work without actually getting my hands on the thing & kicking it in the ass. We can guess till the cows come home...It's all Redundant.

How about teaching us what you would do, I'd love to learn from a "real mechanic"....

Ok Stupes see if you can understand, I'll use small words so I don't confuse you. Someone mentioned tip over sensor, not me btw. As a person who has had an issue with it once, I know that if you remove it the bike will run normally, it will just have a check engine light on. Plug it back in, light shuts off. With me so far?

Shawn's bike is not throwing a code nor is the check engine light on, this is why I mentioned the light coming on.

Let's assume, cuz we don't know wtf is going on, that the BAS is acting up then by REMOVING it should tell you if it is bad. Right? Remove it, take bike for a ride, runs better? Yes=BAS No=Something else. I think it's underneath the seat on the S so it would take him 5 minutes to do.

Oh and I didn't suggest that it was the BAS. What I did suggest is, imo, the easiest way to diagnose it. But what do I know? obviously not as much as you.

I've already unhooked the BAS and i'll be taking it for a test ride tomorrow after work, should be quick and easy way to cancel it out, or solve the problem.

If I did not talk, the entertainment factor would drop off dramatically..(We actually have "Groupies" here) Then everyone would be at that "OTHER" site and this place would be a ghost town..

I'd have left long ago, but I'm pretty sure Blake wants me to stay here. I've seen the PM's from the guys to prove it.

There are "other" sites about motorcycles? Hogwash!

Shawn: Did you try powder-coating your ECM? It might help.

Frogface: This password thing is really annoying! It's taking .035 seconds away from me enjoying the baddest of the web.

Anybody interested in a big Buell patch? 11"x5", PVC backed, reflective. Will trade for 6-pack of Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA.

Or you can just have it. Whatever.

Hey Shawn,

If you're still having problems, try this. Pull and re-seat your fuel injector plugs. Take note how easily they pop off when you squeeze the plastic locks.

I had a similar problem. After hours of trouble shooting, a new o2 sensor, a new iat sensor and several stress migraines, I found the proverbial "something simple."

Turns out that the fuel injector plugs had backed off enough to become intermittent, (here's the clincher,) only at a certain rpm/frequency of vibration; and only when the engine came to operating temp. So the warm temps loosen the plastics enough to let them shake, but they only lose contact at the highest vibrations.

When I pulled the plugs they literally fell/popped off when I squeezed the locks. When I pushed them back in and tried again, they felt fully seated and I had to pull them off.

2000 miles later, the symptoms have not repeated.

Good luck
