Nice photos, Jake! Thanks!

I hope everyone had a great time. We sure did. Already planning next year!

Jody, did you really get home at 2am? What's the time delay on this thing? Glad you made it. Hope it wasn't too hard of a ride.

Cj I think he got home around 11pm. I got an email from him today and think he had a great adventure despite the problems with the waterhead.

Thanks for putting on yet another great event. No matter if there are 6 or 20 Buells and Buellers it is a great time. It was a great family event and I was glad I saw a lot of spouses. No lay downs and no mishaps... PERFECT

It was so good to see the NM crowd again. And of course it was good to see my good friends Jim from NE and Loran and Meribeth from KS. Those guys are out playing in our backyard and having a grand time I bet.

Lynn and I are looking forward to next year...

Frank

Ed,
Just curious... where did the cable break?
At the lever? In the trans case? or somewhere in between??

I think the trans case. Haven't heard from SF Harley yet. I am hoping to hear back today.

Ed,
I hope the steel knob at the end of the cable did not break off and get loose in there...

I thought you guys got stuck in Espanola traffic... I waited at the Valero for a while thinking you would stop there as planned.

I hope so too Nick. I wish it would've just been traffic.

I used to live in the "south" of NM.

There are some great riding roads around the Ruidoso - Cloudcroft areas. Lots of things to see and do, well maintained mountain roads, and good places to stay.

There are also some great riding roads in the Mimbres Valley, Black Mountain Range, and North of Silver City around Reserve and the Gila Cliffs. In fact, years ago (05?) there was a rally based out of Pinos Altos, NM. The wife refers to Rt 15 as the "road of death" - lots of "fun" tight turns, elevation changes, switchbacks etc.

I'll be going down there before winter arrives...

Ed, what's the status of your TT?
What did they find?

Inquiring minds want to know...since I have two XB bikes and have never had a cable failure...

I rode from Carlsbad to Cloudcroft and back on Sunday. The road from Cloudcroft to Sunspot is a good one also.

Turns out it was the Primary case. Those cost about $260. Was not pleased. Josh @ SF Harley is going to save the case for me so I can see where it broke. I will take pictures.

I have been surfing the KV on here to see if anyone else has had a primary fail. Doesn't seem to be too common, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Ed, look at this thread:
http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/show .cgi?tpc=32777&post=1907173#POST1907173

Looks like you might be able to sell off that old cover to a guy who repairs them.

Meanwhile...

Nick, let me know when you're going south. I have never done those roads and would like to explore some. I have some out of town time coming up over the next several weeks, but if I'm here, I'd love to check them out.

Ed, do you need a primary case or was it covered under warranty... I may have one from an XB but not sure if it will fit. (I think they are all the same). Let me know and I will send it to you.

Call me if you want it since I will be on the computer most of the day... (7192004957)

Thanks however, I really appreciate it.

ED, I'm very interested in what happened to your primary case. Very strange...

CJ, I definitely plan on going south before the year is out. You are welcome to come along. Lets plan on it. It will have to be an overnight because it takes about 4-5 hours just to get to these areas and then we need time to ride the roads... We can do either the Sacramento Mountains or the Gila Range areas... or both before 2011.

My problem is that I'm fairly busy between now and the cold weather. I'm out of town Sept 11-20, Sept 30-Oct 3, Oct 11-15. Bart is trying to get me to go to his 191 rally Oct 8-10, but I'm not sure I can make it with my departure early on the 11th. And, Angela is all over me about spending money. I have to get a 5K service on my Uly now that it has 6K miles. And now my Firebolt needs a battery. Maybe late October? 22-23 or 22-24? Not sure what the weather is like down there then. Is Jackie going, too? I might be able to talk Angela into riding with me.

CJ,

Late October is the soonest for me as well... The weekend of Oct 22-24 might work. Halloween weekend is even better. November weekends all look good except for Thanksgiving.

Re weather: the Sacramento Mountains are a better bet than the Gilas. I'll work up the grand-tour routes for both and forward them FYI.

The wife will probably go on her own bike as long as the weather is OK. If the weather is questionable for the whole area, we will probably go two-up.

BTW: "The Lodge" at Cloudcroft is a great place to stay, especially if you want to impress the Mrs with a "charming" turn of the century hotel located about 9000ft high...

FOR ALL THE XB Owners who mentioned they had experienced inconsistent oil readings...the latest 2010 manual has cold/hot oil check procedures that actually work on the 2008+ oil systems.

See link:
http://www.buell.com/om/99474-10Y_en/file-6.asp

Spread the word... Nice to see HD/Buell publish a change in the manual for the ending run of XB bikes...

What actually happened?

As for doing a track day...Sep and Oct are very busy months for me... I'll be there on the race days.

Not fixed yet; pretty sure they are still wait on the part. Haven't seen the case yet so I don't know exactly what happened.

September may not happen for me either if my bike doesn't get finished by Friday or Saturday.

Reiver:
The Track is just outside of Albuquerque, Sandia Motorsports Park. The SMRI is the club that does the motorcycle racing out there and they have usually one trackday and one raceday per month. The next Trackday is 12 September, this coming Sunday. I will have to look up the October day. If you are interested in attending let me know I have been doing them all this year and can give you a run down of what you need.
