Thx, Thang!

Carlost, Webe 'n me did some serious ADVenturin' yesterday (Our mission? To boldly go where no moto-moron has gone before...) and we ended up WAY behind our respective schedules.

That last shot is burnin' up the Blue Ridge Parkway (does this scene look familiar? Watch "Ferris Gump" again, during his running-around-the-country phase) near dusk, making up time.

Only saw one deer in a hundred miles (amazing for this time of night), and one Ranger (fortunately for me, he already had someone else lit up).

Got home well after Happy Hour, but was still met with a smile, hugz, custom-made hi-perf Margarita, and BBQ'd chicken (yep, I'm a lucky man :-)

Good to hear from you. : )

Wish I had been there!

(And I would have had a tire patch kit (inside and outside, take your pick) and a manual tire pump all packed up in tool tubes on the uly!)

Reep,
Every time I go up to see Ferris I do drive right past that little dirt pad your Uly was parked on and wave!

Great pics, Jerry, and sorry I couldn't join you yesterday. Bet Heather will be up for the next trip though...

Wish I had been there!

Us, too. : )

I recognize that guitar!

Brad, sharp eyes! We're sittin' 'round the campfire Sat night, sluggin' brews, gots us some fine cee-gars (that's how we say it around here) blazin,' the BBQ buildin' up a head of steam, yakkin' and yukkin' and just pretty much carryin' on after a fine day in the wind (notwithstanding Carlost's flat tire - that boy is HARD on tires...), and learnt that Webe is an accomplished git-tar (that's how we say it around here) player.

I says, rather incredulishly, "You play git-tar?!?"

He says, rather modestly, "You gots a git-tar?!?"

The rest was history. : )

I told the tale of the Garrison - I call it the BadWeB Git-tar - and before it was all said and done Webe also delighted all his assembled groupies (Carlost, Denise, me and our cat Snickers) by noodling some classic tunes on "Mr. E" (my mystery maker vintage 12-string), and on my new Martin (Valentine's 2010 gift from Denise :-).

Yep, 'twas an epic weekend all the way around. : )

I've got to dig up the link to the BadWeb Git-tar...

You were with us in spirit, my brudda! Yesterday's ride down Grandfather Mountain was interesting, to say the least. Ever heard of Gragg (formerly known as Cary's Flat), North Carolina? Wayle, ya can't get there from here.

But you can almost get there from there. ; )

that boy is HARD on tires

Amen to that! Thank goodness for Webe and his tire changer!

But you can almost get there from there.

You are here!!!

Carlos had a great weekend! He needed it. You guys did a good job at de-stressing him!

Thanks, Kristi! It was rather distressing at times, especially when we FINALLY got back to pavement yesterday ("Didya go clear to the end of the earth, FB?" No, but we could see it from there...), FINALLY figgered out where we were (Carlost: "Ferris, stop moving the $#@*! map around!" :-), and realized how late we all were.

Felt a little sorry for Los Only Boyz - they had a long ways to go, and in the heat of the hot Piedmont afternoon (thankfully with the sun mostly at their backs, tho.)

Me? I made a hasty ascent on 321 back to Blowing Rock (the beauty is that this late on Sunday all the traffic is coming DOWN from the mountains - I had the uphill lanes, with brand-new sticky blacktop, no less, all to myself) and the brisk, refreshing coolness that is the Appalachias.

And as you can prolly tell from the last pic above, I came outta this whole deal very much destressed, too.

Thx for letting Carlost come play. : )

It was a very de-stressing and fun weekend. We split off from you and Webe wanted to eat again. He's lost too much weight and needs to pack some back so we can travel without stopping ever 4hours to eat. Well we stopped in Hickory for food and hit the road again just after 6pm. I told Webe if we were going to make it home, we had to burn up mileage with only one stop on the way home. Traffic for the most part was good, only three cagers tried to run me over.

PS, Looked at the Uly this afternoon and the rear is flat again. Going to have to change it out before WV.

...the rear is flat again.

Bummer! That is truly distressing. : (

When you swap the tire out, I'd be curious if you can tell exactly how our repair failed.

Glad that tire got you home!

After talking about the Uly tire Carlee tells him that his rear tire on his bicycle also "popped"!

Flat Tire Update:

Webe and I removed the rear tire to find the plug still in place. I wanted to check the tire to make sure what was leaking, unfortunately that did not happen. What we did find is that the tire had another hole in it. A small piece of metal was sticking out inside the tire. This very small hole was almost impossible to see from the outside of the tire. It could very well be what caused the tire to go flat again, meaning the plug may have held.

With that said, we removed the plug to patch the tire from the inside. The patches did not take hold, so to prevent a problem for the up coming trip we replaced the tire. I still have the tire and may decide to plug it once our new plug kits arrive and I wear this new tire up.

To add insult to injury this past week has been the week for the flat tire. My daughter decides to take my bike instead of her's only to return with a popped rear tire innertube. Cutting the grass Friday ended halfway due to a flat rear tire. Hopefully I have flat tires out of the way now since I have a 1500 mile trip coming in a couple of days.

Carlos,
OK, I am now making sure I pack my 12v air pump for WV, and every kind of plug that I can find in the garage.

Just when I thought it was safe to get back into pneumatics, I find out one of the air mattresses we lent to a friend leaks.

Jerry, do you thing you can plug my air mattress?

Carlost, run down to your local farm 'n feed and see if you can get some solid-rubber wheelbarrow tires for the Uly???

When we were fixing your tire that day in Poor Valley and I commented on what a big hole you had ( ), I never knew you'd take it quite to this extreme................

I was wondering where to look for solid rubber tires. I am turning air leaks into an art form here.
