Thanks for the additional invite Frank. I'm sure it would be great fun. The west has some of the best Buellers going and if nothing else I'll be spiritually riding along with all of you. I'll surely let you know when we find time to do 550. Bob

I'd like to get in on that. I also have time constraints with work and family that keep me from doing more rides. You make the ones you can make. It's not like this is the last time we're going to do it.

I'd love to, but my Honda is still naked. Still too chicken to take the Buell out.

Maybe...

I don't know...

We'll see...

If anyone is interested,I installed the RaceTech Gold Valve kit on the weekend of 6/26-6/27.I havent had much time to really test it other than a quick ride up Johnson's Pass and commuting to work, but, the front end does feel more "planted" in the corners and on bumpy roads.Time will tell if the money was well spent.

Thanks for keeping us posted Robert. Did you make any changes or stay pretty much stock? Is that a stock kit or does Race Tech offer some kind of special valving, etc?

Also while I'm posting how did your track day go Jeff? And while we're on suspension, have you done any adjusting to your 1125? I found some good handling for my personal tastes over a couple days of street "testing"

Bob

I will be tracking it on Friday. I'm still running stock suspension. I needed fork oil seals (just in case) before I jumped into the suspension upgrades. I should have the seals by Friday, but will probably wait until next week or so to start that mod. (I'm still not convinced EB sent the right spring weights, but I should have that figured out soon, too).

Jeff, do you think the stock forks & rear shock are not enough quality for what your intended use of your 1125 will be and why you are choosing to do upgrades? Just wondering as many occasional novice racers are finding the stockers just fine for amateur racing. I know you have said it'll probably be a "track only bike" but kind of a waste as its a great street bike also.....within reasonable riding. Bob

Hey Jeff...please give me a good reason why I SHOULDN'T go to the track Friday night. I've REALLY been thinking about taking the Buell out there. Now that I have my axle sliders, I don't really have an excuse. I'll just chase you around... : )

Kerri -

I'm paid up front so I have no excuses. Please - cut the crap about following me around - you got mad skills - I usually follow YOU as I recall....

I'm trailering in Friday morning to do the post EB exhaust/chip dyno run - just to see if the difference is noteworthy. Then out to MMP.

See you Friday afternoon (1545?)

Bob, to be honest, since I had the T* guys work my suspension (that sounds dirty) I've been rather pleased with it. I've done some spirited rides and haven't had any uncomfortable moments as a result of suspension issues. My sketchy courage and lack of faith in the road surface, but not with suspension.

: )

Thats quite good Kerri, and why I suggested the stock Buell suspension, with as many adjustments as it has should be just fine even for track work occasionally, as many part time racers have found out. Let us know if you do anything more with your settings after your track day Friday. You and Jeff stay real safe, have fun........and stay cool!

Bob,yes I did add the "Gold Valve" and recommended shims to my front end. When you call Race Tech, they ask what the intended use is for your bike, street only,street/track,track only, and ask your weight and ability, novice, expert, etc. From that they determine what set up you need and send the appropriate kit.You can also buy stiffer springs if need be,they seem to be very knowlegable about suspension setup as well.

Ya, lets hear about your day at the track Jeff. Did you do any suspension adjustments? Hope you had a good time. These 1125's are FUN, aren't they.

And while I'm thinking about it; does anybody use racing tactics while street riding, where practical of course? I.E. carving the apex, hanging off, counter steering, trail braking, etc. Maybe not to its full extent because of the inherent dangers but it can't hurt to practice it to be a better rider, and its just plain fun! Naturally save the aggressive riding using these techniques for the track. That goes without saying. Ride today for tomorrows ride. These canyons will not forgive you for mistakes. Bob

Kerri

It was friggin hot. I came off second session and was baked. Soldiered on two more sessions nonetheless. West course I could maybe hit 106 tops on the shorter front straight, usually around 95. I wasn't hanging off much except the hairpins. Turns one through 4 were sweepers, but 5, 6, and 10 gave me some trouble finding the right entry point. That, and a couple of guys stuffed me on a bad line, then had to brake hard to correct. I grabbed a bit too much front a couple of times to keep from swapping paint and the front end got squirrely for that brief second. Other than that, no mishaps, bike worked well and the tires got scrubbed wall to wall, so I must have done something.

Michelin dude was there and said they are blowing out the pilots right now. Almost bought a set, but....

Bob, I think it goes without saying that track time always translates to street, whether it be braking technique, locating corner entry and exit, weight transfer, whatever, your street skills should improve by implementation of what you learn/discover at the track. Lee Parks isn't a bad read, either.

Oh yeah, bike set up: I made no changes from stock suspension, street set-up that I am running now. Bike seemed pretty planted, but my technique needs improvement to keep suspension loading changes to a minimum. Hopefully, that will get better with practice. For me, I could run almost the entire course in either 2nd or 3rd. I'd get to near redline in 2nd at about 95, so the only place I needed more was on the front straight. I could run the course in 3rd, but was slow coming off the turns.

Gotta like that wide power band! Not having to shift much is one less thing to think about..

Good show Jeff and good report. Sounds like you had fun despite the heat. Seeing some improvement is always a good thing and getting seat time is what is needed to do just that. Looks like the full course (outer) would be a real blast! Glad you came through unscathed. Time for some street riding with ya'......in not so much heat, if it ever moderates. Stay cool! Bob

Jeff, have you thought about taking an ART class though the UT Sportbike Association? It's Advanced Riders Training (if you didn't know) and they have a trackday rider level. It's pretty awesome to have some concentrated instructor attention. Even in the downpour I had the class in, I took a lot away from it. I'm a lot more confident on the street now. Just have to see what it did for me track-wise.

Kerri - Do insurance companies give discounts for ART?

Bob - I've run full track before and look forward to again this fall. That thing is a hoot, but will wear my butt out. If I run five sessions it will be a full day.

Well, maybe...they do give you a certificate, but since the USBA runs it and not MSF, maybe not. Maybe if you have a local rep who knows who they are??? I'll ask though...would be nice!

Some of the instructors out there are MSF and Utah State certified instructors. A few of the guys I used to teach with also taught the ART class.

If your insurance company offers discounts for training the ART should qualify, just tell them what ART stands for.

A newer member of the badweb community will hopefully pop in and say hello. Michalangelo is his name. He rode out to my place Thursday and we took a look at his bike (S1 with great paint), hopefully we can all get together for a ride one of these days...

Hey there, met Bob up at Mountain Green on Sunday when we pulled in to gas and water up on the way up towards Bridger National Forest. It was the break-in trip for my new (to me!) 2006 Ulysses.

We ended up doing about 75 miles off-road through Bridger and got an awesome night of camping in.

Good meeting Bob. I'd just gotten the brush-off from SL HD so I needed the lift.

Welcome Chuck(Testcase), nice meeting you and glad you had a great day. There is some really nice riding "up here" on the north side. On a sidenote, I just gave Chuck one of my cards I always have to hand out to prospective web members as he seemed to want to get going and I guess it worked.

Chuck, as you said; "I'd just gotten the brush-off from SL HD so I needed the lift", and this is one of the reasons this site exists, to help Buellers with any of the problems we might have now that we really do not have a Buell supportive dealer. And a great place for all brands who ride with us to meet and talk about potential rides. Thanks for joining our little group. Looking forward to your input. Also check out: "www.utahsba.com/forum" A great site for much info on street riding and racing at Millers and who some here post to. Stay safe out there. Lets ride! Bob
