The best "swag" of the rally was the shirt with the upside-down bar and shield... Depictions of our dissatisfaction with "the" motor company over the Buell decision...are much more entertaining.

Maybe next year Erik Buell Racing will have some trinkets available along with a new street bike. The spirit of Buell lives with EB and Buell owners...

I think next year I can find a way to get some Erik Buell Racing stuff for the raffles.

I agree on the pic size issue. I haven't posted mine yet because I haven't taken the time to resize them. Posted a bunch on facebook, though.

Wow, Loren, that sucks. Hope you get it repaired without too much trouble.

What type of intercom do you guys use? Jim had an autocom and I was looking into those as well.

CJ, No big deal, nothing a little time and money can't fix.

We are using an Autocom. They had some business problems this last year and have been sold or bought...etc. The system works well, but I think there are better blue tooth system out now. Ours is older and uses cords....cordless would be a nice to have.

I had a great time at the rally and enroute to and from this is a great group of riders. I have never rode with a large group but I can now say I have met & ridden with the best. I want to give a special thanks to those who planned and worked to make this a special event for all of us who attended, I know these events take a lot of planning and work to make it a success.

So a big special thank you for a great rally.

After the rally I rode along with a group of Buell riders on West to Charma, NM I then took off on my own West on 64 to check out the Ruins at Aztec, NM Spent 2 hours there checking out the place, then mounted up and rode on West on 64 to check out the Shiprock Peak, I have read several books written by Tony Hillerman about life in the Four Corners area, I felt like I had been there before. Since I was close enough I thought I might as well go on up to to Four Corners for a photo opt and time to zip up the vents on my jacket to get ready to brave some rain heading into Cortez City to end the day. Up early on Monday morning headed East on 160 over to the Mesa Verde National Park, This place is amazing however I think they should have gotten a better real estate agent, you know location, location, location, boy some of those places are a little difficult to get to. Spent the entire morning at Mesa Verde then headed on over East to Durango for a late lunch, had a burger with the local LEO motor officer, He was wearing all of the Durango protective gear short sleeve shirt, black sport shoes but he did wear a helmet, he explaned that he only rode around town so he did not need any protective gear, it must not hurt to fall down on the pavement in Durango. Oh well I take off heading North on 550 up to Silverton, then on the Million Dollar highway up to Ouray. At Ridgeway I then headed North West on hwy 145 then 141 out North West to Gateway,CO from Urvan to Gateway is a spectuacular ride through the red canyons. I wanted to visit the auto museum at Gateway, but it was closed by the time I got there, by the way that Gateway Resort would be a great place to stay for awhile if your bank account ballance was in the high six figures, that did not include me so on to Grand Junction for the night. Thank God for the GPS finding me a inexpensive also known as cheep motel with a pizza hut right across the street. Up early Tuesday morning downing the balance of the pizza I had left over from last nite I headed East on I I70 to the Hwy 85 exit then back South through Cederidge & Orchard City to hwy 92 East on over to hwy 133 back up North to Carbondale to hwy 82, time to stop for a pop and a sandwich and gas. Headed back South East on hwy 82 through Snowmass, Aspen and over Independence Pass, and Twin lakes. When I was riding through Aspen it appeared as though they were having a Paris Hilton look alike contest, I don't think I have ever seen so many good looking blond women in one place in my life. Well another direction change to the North on hwy 24 up to Leadville then on hwy 91 and I70 up to the Frisco exit, where I learned to ski many years ago. Reversed direction once again back South on hwy 9 down through Breckenridge, god there was a lot of traffic going through Breckenridge, rode on south to Fairplay and the intersection with Hwy 285 and to change direction again to the North East on 285 back into Denver to spend the night with my son. We went out for a great BQ supper and washed it down with a few Beers. Up early Wednesday morning for the treak back to home base. Made great time through Denver Up 25 to I 70 East and out of Denver in 20 minutes. things were going great nice sool morning traffic thined out and made the exit off I70 onto hwy 36 at Byers so stopped for a donut & a coffe. My boy just moved into his new house so he did not have any food there to feed me in the manner to which I am accutomed, donuts & coffe. Just set the cruse on 75 to 80 MPH and set back for the ride home. Slowing into Anton,CO I thought I was running over some speed bumps but soon realized that it was the front tire was shaking like crazy. I had run over a rock about the size of an orange yesterday afternoon and when I hit the rock I thought I had bent the wheel but everything looked OK, well now it revealed that it had damaged the tire, which was 95 percent used up anyway. Got on the phone to AMA Rodeside assistance and they dispached a tow from Brush so I had a 1-1/2 hour wait for the tow. So I had some time to visit with three bicycle riders riding from Denver to Omaha, NE. As they were leaving I had to ask them why and they said it was a challange to accomplish the trip. My first job out of trade school in a tool & die shop one of the other tool makers told me if anybody tells you to do it because it is a challange is because they can't think of a good reason to do it. Well 2 hours latter the tow shows up so he head up to Ft Morgan to Morse Motorcycle shop for a new front tire. Its now 4:20 PM and $100.00 for the overage on the tow and $242.00 for the new front tire I am back on the rode heading East on hwy 34 for the secenic ride home. As I was approaching Wray, CO I could see the top of a thunder storm forming ahead of me, it was a huge storm and I finally cought up with it at Holdridge, NE and was able to ride around on the back side of it, the highway dips were still filled with rain water and light rain was falling for the next 20 miles. It is nice to have good riding gear where all you have to do is zip up the vents to stay dry. It was now vary dark and the road was wet but no other issues for the balance of the trip home. It is now the bewitching hour 12:10 AM and I am home, as I rolled up the overhead door in my shop to put the Uly away out of the house comes Muggys to give me a good welcome home. Muggys my new dog.

Jim, it sure was good to see you and I am glad you had a good trip. Lets see, I went to pick up Loren in Silma and I was barley 100 miles from you and could picked you up and put a new tire on the Uly for you. Incidentally, Lynn and I go to Gateway at least once a year and may go over Christmas this year. Morse MC Shop is where I picked up my S1W that the owners kid was trying to make a chopper out of...

I am glad you had a chance yo ride your XB in our playground... We will expect you every year for the Rally and next time bring Sharon...

Curiously, there were at least three different ways of conveying departure times during this rally...
"Engine Start" (old school...)
"Kickstands Up" (CJ)
"Clutches Out" (Murrae)

Jim: Great tale! Sounds like a pretty enjoyable ride, right up to that flat tire. Glad the dog was happy to see you! Hopefully, the missus was as well!

Frank: Thanks for the seal of approval! I can email you the full resolution version of some of those. I've been meaning to add my photos here, but haven't had time to sit and resize them.

Court: You really missed a great rally. You definitely need to make some time to come out here. We can show you some really nice roads.

Nick: "We're going to leave by..." doesn't sound as cool as "Kickstands up by..."

FOR ALL THE XB Owners at the Red River Rally who mentioned they had experienced inconsistent oil readings...the latest 2010 manual has cold/hot oil check procedures that actually work on the 2008+ oil systems.

See link:
http://www.buell.com/om/99474-10Y_en/file-6.asp

Spread the word... Nice to see HD/Buell publish a change in the manual for the ending run of XB bikes...

Re: the Red River link... this is what I received back from "somebody" at Erik Buell Racing.

"Thanks for the link. We sure wish we could do more support and visiting, but there are only six full time people at Erik Buell Racing. This is tiny, overstressed and wildly underfunded. No one has any idea..."
