Accurate run down of the meeting Keith. That's what I remember, too.

On my ride home after the meeting, I was getting ready to turn south on I-55 from southbound 1st Ave. The ramp there is combined for both north and southbound until it splits.

The ramp was blocked by an IDOT tow truck with flares all along the entrance. I had to go to Archer and make a Louie from northbound 1st Ave onto I-55 south.

As I was passing the northbound entrance to I-55, I saw a bunch of flashing lights and what look a couple of bodies on the shoulder.

In Saturday's Sun-Times I read that a biker and his passenger hit a guard rail. Anybody know more about it?

WCC'rs

Anybody up for a ride this weekend? I do not have a specific location in mind, that can be determined based on who would be interested. I am open for either Saturday or Sunday.

Hi Milt, sorry I didn't reply. We got all wrapped up in yard work fun, fun and ended up not going. The "wind farm" is where the wind turbines ( not sure if that is the proper name) near Ottawa. Maybe another time : )

Dana,

I received your emails regarding riding on Sunday. I made the mistake of replying to the email and I just came to the realization that I have to respond through the Bad website. Sorry about the mistake, it would have been nice to ride on Sunday.

Saturday I rode down to Lafayette IN. I found a route on the internet that circles around the river valley near Lafayette. Some of the roads were nice and curvy but maybe not worth the long ride to get to the area.

I ended up in the country near the east side of Lafayette and decided to just start taking country roads north towards home when I spotted a bunch of cars lining both sides of a perpendicular road. It looked like the finish line of a bicycle road race so I went to see what was going on. It was actually a large model rocket club meeting. There were people there many states. They were firing off rockets of all sizes. The FAA actually had the airspace above the area blocked so no airplanes could go over.

My Buell had a lot of attention from all of the Rocket scientists. It's funny how technical people love to look at and talk about Buells. I met one rocket guy from Fond du Lac WI whose company used to make the shipping crates for Buell. He may have made the crate for my bike. He was very disappointed about the shutdown. Small world.

The main event was a 20' long x 20" diameter rocket. That rocket was setup for launch 2,000' away from the on lookers. When they launched, it was like a scene out of WW2. Amazing, the on board altimeter transmitted that it went to 20,000' but the parachute did not open and it buried itself into an adjacent field. Fun time, I am such a technology geek.

Dana

CIP was fun. There were lots of sport bikers there and had a good time looking at the bikes. I saw Tony there and met a few nice people including a new Buell CR rider named Keith (see Ridecono above).

Now the down side. Since CIP was near I355, I decided to use it for my trip home. At about the 2 mile marker, my bike started to slip sideways as if the rear tire went flat. Nothing like a rear wheel drift at 80 MPH (Like my old flat track days). Anyway, I stop the bike only to find the tire is not flat. I grab the rear wheel and I have 2 to 3" of side movement. The rear bearings catastrophically failed. I had no previous indications of failure. I do not know if the wheel is toast at this point.

Had to call my wife and son to pick me up with our neighbors trailer.

I currently have IL HD checking on the availability of a 2010 wheel with the new bearing arrangement. I will upgrade to the new wheel regardless of the old wheels condition.

Looks like the ride this weekend is a bust for me. Hopefully I will have a new wheel for the Crud Run.

Wow, Tim. Glad to hear there was no crash. I can't imagine what the bearing must look like. Hope the damage is not too extensive.
