Charlie,
We made it up to 60 degrees today! Looks like Spring is right around the corner.
Poor Nuts didn't know what to make of all the snow and salted roads.
Last time we spoke cabin fever was setting in and I was afraid he was gonna go insane.
I bet the boy didn't waste any time getting that BMW out today and racking up some miles.
What about yourself? You and the Cyclone getting any straight line cruising in down your way?

Not yet, but I did charge my battery yesterday.I just don't get excited about riding down here. Once you played in God's country.......it's just ho-hum riding.

Hey at least you don't have to worry about going into a corner too hot .
I plan on riding 122 a lot this Summer. Relatively straight and lots of chicks in bikinis to look at when I stop at the lake to have me a snuff break.
I'll invite Nuts to ride and check out the lasses but that feller will not turn his eye for a second! He is an oak.
I keep telling him that its ok to windowshop. Heck I been doing it for years and not made a purchase yet .

No riding for NUTS yesterday. I went to the gym and ran 3 consecutive, uninterrupted miles in under 30 minutes. Ole turtlesnuggler isn't going to want to hear how I've lost 5lb in a week though. We went over to the old house for a heavy dose of cleaning. Came home and explored the neighborhood with my family and enjoyed the mild temps. The weather was perfect and I didn't wish I was on the bike once.

Having ridden to Paint Bank Saturday morning was a treat and the helmet time did my head some good.

Dude if you lose anymore weight the wind will lift you right off the bike when you ride. A 6'7 dude shouldn't be weighing 123 pounds .
Seriously though, congrats on the weight loss and cardio achievement.

My own efforts got derailed last week due to the strep throat and ear infection. Its back on the horse this week though to try and undo the damage I inflicted on myself last week.
It sure is easy for your mind to talk you into a double Whopper and large fry when you too sick to cook.

Put in another 3 miler yesterday; That alone burned 518 calories according to the machine.
jaxson, give me a call if you'd like to stop by this afternoon. I'll be spending some time in the workshop organizing a bit.
Charlie, you're welcome to stop in as well if you find yourself in need of colder climes.

Thanks for the invite Nuts (declined)According to the weatherman, all I need to do is wait a couple of days and I'll feel like I was there.Calling for a nasty start to March.

Nuts,
Whats Friday evening looking like for ya'? I really wanna come check out the workshop so we can get it up to my specifications for changing my oil and such over there

Charlie,
Nows the time to catch that gator and send him to me. He's bound to be slow and sluggish so you'd probably be able to do it and only lose 2-3 fingers.
You ever see any rattlers down there?

Friday...daytime or Jacquie time? I'm usually at the gym in the late afternoons; in that case Thursday or Sunday would be better. Before 3pm any day would work. Of course if you ever answered your phone you'd know this. Snowing again. NEWTS

Jackson,
I'm sure they have rattlers, although I've never seen one down here. As for the Gator, I heard he went to Vancouver for the winter(said it was too cold in the south.

Newts,
I'll be giving you a ring tomorrow to see if you are available to give me a tour of the new digs.

Charlie,
Never seen one down there huh? That leads me to believe you saw one up here. If this be the case then hows about spilling the beans. I need some new areas.
No worries I don't kill or remove the animals nor do I damage the area and keep my spots to myself so please don't hesitate to share.

jackson,
The place where I saw the most was on Purgatory Mtn. I've been on the North side, the south side and the front side and their everywhere. Seen more on the Interstate side though. This was forty years ago though, didn't like them then, don't now. Also another good place was Solitude along North Creek.

Thanks Charlie!
I checked them out on Google maps but it doesn't really show any little access roads. By chance remember a good way to approach Purgatory?

Secondly,
I need your valuable input.
I was looking at some slip ons made my TAB that are baffled but they say the bike needs to have a tuner installed as well even if I do not choose to run a high flow air filter. The 09' and up VRSC line has no remap available from the dealer so thats not an option.
You reckon the Revolution motor is truly that finicky about a minor change? I can understand a full exhaust change or a performance air filter but just slip ons?

Jaxs,
Best I remember there are a few access rds. One is off Rt 43, I can't pinpoint it for you without being there. Go past the interstate and start looking for a road without any house in sight. Should take you almost to the top.
On the Arcadia ext, side, get off Int. and go south on 11 to first road on right, stay on that past Grey Ledge and there will be a farm on left with side gate and road heading up the Mtn.It's a fire road going to the Tower on top. Access iffy. There are others but they go thru private property and hard to gain access unless they know you.
One more is Frontage Rd.(same directions as before except stay on Rt11S till it starts to go under Int.81, turn right B4 underpass, you have about two miles of possible access to front of Mtn.Let people know what you want to do and" don't go alone". It's a very rough Mtn. with rocks as big as your house and paths between them,There are bears and cats up there, I have seen them.

As for your bike, they come pretty lean to start with,EPA reg. So be careful. If it were mine I would put it on the dyno to be sure. Just a bills worth of prevention to make sure there are no super lean spots in your RPM range.

This dyno run should happen after break-in mileage is complete right? So sometime after the next lunar eclipse...

Well, lets see(extremely long pause)have to be very diplomatic about this(snicker)he's not looking for power runs. Just needs to get a reading of A/F ratio thru the RPM range. Although several hundred or more miles or more would be nice.

Thanks for the directions Charlie. I'm gonna do a topo map search tonight and find me and Nuts a way in there.

The dyno run idea actually works out great. 6 months before modifications so that gives me plenty of time to put 200 miles on it

But...but...but...Charlie,
The manual specifically calls for 50 miles below 5000 RPM and then below 7000 RPM at varying speeds until 500 miles.
We all know I gotta follow the manual to the letter or I'll feel like its all broken inside.
Don't wanna talk myself into a complete engine rebuild at the 1000 mile service

Well I finally got down there and went over her real good to check everything out.
Got some really rough spots of paint and the boys over at the V Rod forum suggest taking it in to have a warranty claim started.
Looks like instead of break in miles it'll be a short trip to our good friends at RVHD.

That's the problem with painted frames....what you need to do is strip it down and have the whole frame nichol plated and be done with it.So much easier to polish and probably the only one around like that.

Mmmmm! Me likes some nickle plating! Maybe get the flag theme painted on my airbox cover and a large sissy bar.
Can one really go wrong with copying Peter Fondas' pan head from Easy Rider?

I had me an old iron head one time and that thing was the gravy. Real metal and built like a brick craphouse.
I long for the days of using a matchbook cover to set the points gap and changing jet sizes to make her purr like a kitten.

If you are serious, ask yourself this. Is orange peel on the frame paint worse than having a technician out of the factory disassemble and reassemble the entire machine?

I do not believe it is easy to duplicate the minute details of factory assembly-outside of the factory. My $2 bill worth of advice.

I'm going for a short ride today as soon as the temp hits 38 degrees. NOUGHTS

Luckily in this case the V Rod frame is actually sections. That rail is held on by 4 bolts and can be swapped in about 30 minutes. 15 if you didn't have to put the kickstand on the new one.

Boys something is wrong with me. My middle age crisis has went away and now I feel pretty much level headed and calm.
New bike in the basement and no polishing, frame buggered up but cool as a cucumber, no more desire for body modifications, the wandering eye doesn't seem to wander anymore, and my desire for attention from others outside the family has disappeared.
Is that how its supposed to end Charlie or am I depressed? In like a lion and out like a lamb? I don't feel sad or nothing just mellow and satisfied in general.
I been feeling crazy so long it feels weird being "normal" again.

Honkkson, today is the day. Call me for directions and the gate password.

Charlie I managed to ride out to Shawsville amidst the snow flurries Sunday. I went over 12 o'clock knob and then paralelled the Roanoke River out past Salem. Came back in a similar way under similar skies. It was good to be back amongst the riding few. Looks like 50 degrees this weekend for my breakfast out near Troutville. I think I might make a run up toward Buchanan for you. NUTS

Woke up from my stupor and saw my package of Captain Richards Best cleaning supplies had arrived.
I can now tell you guys how long it takes to polish a V Rod from top to bottom.
5 hours not including the rims which will be done as soon as we get a nice warm day.
I figure sitting outside on a nice early Spring day will heighten the anticipation of our maiden voyage.
I also realized that even buying a new bike doesn't mean there won't be flaws. I guess with age comes acceptance cause I'm not particularly devasted and just happy to be blessed enough in this economy to have a luxury many people can only unfortunately dream of.

Got me another package on the way too. Just hope my fat belly fits in a large
