So I'm pulling the primary chain case cover off and I find the drive chain is tight...REALLY TIGHT.
I had HRHD put the 9 primary drive sprocket in there and when I pulled the inspection cover off I was surprised to see it with no slack and I could barely move it. I know from dirt bikes an excessively tight chain will eat bearings and damage cases. Anyone ever heard of the chain being so tight, I could only move it about a 1/8 ". No metal shavings other than normal.

i'll go in on it with you if you want.
i see ALOT of parts that will fit into a toaster oven!
clutch/brake/shift levers and linkage, pegs, heel guards, peg brackets, kickstands, R handlebars, points cover, primary inspection covers, headlight grille, license plate mount, axle sliders, bolts, calipers, handlebar clamps, lighting front modules, basically everything but the frame, swingarm and wheels.

and then you can accessorize with pliers wrenches, ratchets and socket sets, ......................

edit: and idler pulley arms, pulleys and gas caps!

how bad is the adjuster shoe worn?
the chain slacks up some when it gets hot (expands) ... but only some. my manual sez to find the tightest spot and adjust it for 3/8 inch total play if you were to
...... pluck it like a guitar string?
that's the best way i can think of to say it

Nilly, I hear ya, however this is with a warm engine. I took her out last night to warm up the oil before I drained it and thats when I noticed the chain. If its that tight when hot...I will never let another person touch my bike unless its a warranty issue an I will go behind them at that ! HRHD

so total we are looking at around 150.00 total for the gun the powder and the toaster oven right well that is depending on how much powder we get and then trying to match the powder to what our rims look like that is the tricky part. here is the link to one of the powder websites

craigslist has several toaster ovens for under 20. just gotta try and find the biggest one with a bake setting. (burners on the bottom) convection fan is optional.

hmmm. blend our own custom color? .... naah better to buy small ammounts unitl we agree on a match.

where would you spray this stuff dust and any forin sh!t will mess it up need to put a plastic box up some were. and will an house oven work

a dry, calm day outside would work. garage or box type booth would be better. the setup uses a static charge to help attract the powder to the metal and make it stick. humidity discharges static electricity, so it's like winter is wanting you to tear down your bike and powder coat all the pieces!

a house oven will work, but baking a powdered plastic in it makes it unsuitable for cooking food. a toaster oven is cheaper and uses a very common 120v outlet instead of 220.

in my garage is where and they have prep stuff on the website i posted up they have a stripper that takes any coating off in ten minutes and they have the cleaner and primmer stuff to the oven need to at least go up to 400 to 480

@ Dwight; or is that the direction you wanted to go with this adventure?
are you wanting to sell some powdercated pieces to cover the investment, or is this strictly a 'pimp-our-rides' program?
we all know how badweb is about non-sponsers, but there are other avenues. (buellxb.com, ebay, and craigslist come to mind)
personally; i'd just love to powdercoat some XB headers, and mufflers

i mean i am down for whatever just want to wait till after christmas and then we can order the stuff we need i am going to get the gun and some of the other prep stuff we will talk more about who is going to get what. i would like to just do it for us first and then when i or we get better at it then maybe doing small things for people.

Had you thought of this while I was deployed, I would've kept the old stove...the wife just gave it to the people that put in the new one. There should be one that we could pick up for close to, if not, nothing.. If so, I may do something like the candy black translucent for the Micron headers...maybe...but definitely the rear pegs, and maybe I'll fashion a reflector holder and have it powder coated...I'll mount reflectors all over the bike! Hahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!

Glad you were able to recognize the pulley issue before it became a HUGE issue. I'm very weary about taking my bike in for the 5K service...maybe I'll enlist your help and do it myself...thoughts?

Phil, if u take it in for service, i would recommend SSHD. Over the last year or so i have come to trust them more than HRHD. Thats only if u take ur bike in for service.

I was really impressed with SSHD when I took my bike to them last week...all they really did was hook it up to a charger over the weekend and do a reroute of the front brake line from a recall, but it looks like they went over the entire bike and checked everything out. Little things like washing the bike and putting little rubber plugs in the openings where the stock mirrors screwed in...makes me think they actually give a damn!

Hey powder coating guys, there used to be a place off Mt Vernon in Portsmouth that sold used/local referb stoves,fridges,etc. Look them up and see if there's a stove w/bad cook top you could get a deal on.
