got some good info today. Alpine Valley isn't all bad, and if they can give us a good rate, the place may work out. The Baymont Inn in Waterford is nuts with their price, so check them off. Roma's is nice, but I really don't think their hall could hold everyone for a dinner and not feel VERY crowded, but we have to include them somehow.
Alpine is about 2 minutes from the soon to be former Factory. Nice ride in and great parking.
Will post more on the stormfront thread after the meeting on the 11th

Good ride today Rocco. Like Rocco said we checked out Alpine and it had pretty good accommodations and prices. We basically got a pretty nice tour today of the place. We're working on a couple other options as well.

Rocco, Dana, Steve, or whoever is handling details for the 2010 homecoming. Now since we know the race dates, maybe someone should check with the East Troy city officials to see if they have any local festivities going on that might interfere with the Buell homecoming. We want to make sure that no local happenings will interfere with having all old Buell employees be able to attend.

Alpine Valley sounds like a good idea but you might also want to check into the town square in East Troy to see what would be involved as far as having a gathering there for a hog roast.

I've seen some good ideas one here as far as homecoming is concerned. Keep up the good work!

2010 Buell Motorcycle Homecoming is going to be the best ever because people who really care about it are doing the planning for a change.

-1 on moving to Storm Fronts. If it's a local event, sure. An event that goes across boundaries seems better suited here where the masses gather.

seeing that I have a company imposed day off, I'll try and update somewhat.
We have a date. The decision was June 16th-20th. There is no scheduled track day during that time, however, the wheels are in motion to see about setting up a track day exclusive to Homecoming. Cost and participation will be the deciding factor on that event. There IS a SMALL possibility that we could switch it to the 9th-13th as there is a scheduled track day on the 9th. But, in my opinion, we should just stick to the 16th-20th and hope a track day can be worked out.
We are working on Alpine Valley as the host hotel and for a banquet. Also possibly having the Thunderbolts play there seeing the have an area for the band.
Bads1 took some pics when we stopped by there last weekend. Maybe he'll post them to give everyone an idea of the set up.
We will also be looking for alternate locations for the hotel and banquet if Alpine Valley falls through. We will keep you updated.
There was discussions about setting up a Paypal account to start taking in money as we are all sure there will be some sort of deposit required by whichever facility we have the banquet in.
There was a discussion about setting up a Homecoming 2010 website so we don't have to keep updating on different sites.
We also we considering setting up another questionnaire in regards to how much people would be willing to spend on a banquet which we are hoping will include the dinner, an event tee-shirt, seeing the Thunderbolts play, and of course, having Erik as the guest of honor.
We are also trying to figure out a way to include the former Buell employees as guests at the dinner at a reduced cost or free to them. That may be a bit tricky.
We considered "sponsor an employee" OR getting companies that have benefited FROM Buell, such as aftermarket suppliers, to show their support for the people that made Buells, allowing them to have their own business, sponsor the former employees to offset costs for them. Just a thought we had.
We discussed ways to offer different packages, such as seeing the band play, but skip the dinner. Purchase a tee-shirt for those that can't attend or don't want the dinner and skip the band. The decision was also made to supply wrist bands to those that pay for the banquet, band and tee-shirt. Maybe a different color for those that just want to see the band and no dinner. There has to be a way to make it fair to those that paid and those that didn't.
We have a "committee" looking into rides.
We have a volunteer getting in touch with the town of East Troy and seeing if we can get a "Buell Day" proclaimed by the town.
We have some one looking into the track day.
Bads1 and myself are responsible for lodging and the banquet. We will also find a campground for those wishing to camp.
We really need to know how much people are willing to spend on the dinner.
$15? $20? $40?
You have to realistic as the dinner will include a tee-shirt and the band, tentatively.
We also have to be realistic about the "packages" that we can offer.
I think maybe;
Package "A"= Dinner, tee-shirt,concert=?$
Package "B"= no dinner, tee-shirt, concert=?$
Package "C"= tee-shirt only=?$

Lot's of great ideas were thrown out there. Some may just be logistically impossible.
We also have to consider time constraints.
The cost of a "HOG Roast is being looked into as well. Which, of course will add to the expense. I guess a good question to pose would be would you rather have a banquet or the roast? It may just be too expensive to do both.
Maybe we can incorporate the roast into the banquet, however, I'm not sure at this time if we can have an outside caterer at Alpine Valley.
We also are figuring a way to include Gus's and Roma's into the plan as they really stepped up to the plate for the lunch given at the factory. However, we stopped at Roma's last weekend, and think that their facility is just too small to hold a banquet. BUT we WILL make sure that they benefit from this event.
There was talk of having a "Buell Bike Show" at Hal's. Maybe dyno runs, and possibly the "HOG Roast" there.
Lots of ideas. Lots to do.
That's just an overview of where we stand right now.
What we really need is to know how many plan on attending and how much people are willing/able to spend.
It came up last night that we really need to keep cost in mind, and do this as inexpensively as possible without making it "cheap" and boring.
Please keep the ideas coming and comments on what we have planned so far.
Thanks.

I would think for the banquet, anything under $50 would be reasonable, but obviously get it as low as possible.

I'm thinking: $25 for a nice dinner
$15 for a t-shirt
$10 for the band

If the band charges less, then that saves cash.

If we decided to do a little less for dinner, then that also saves. Are we looking to have a served 4-course meal? Or a buffet? We could probably get the cost for dinner down to $15 depending on what we want to eat. I don't need anything fancy - baked ziti and a salad would be enough for me.

Bah, just serve everyone a big pot of okra and be done with it!

Seriously, from experience, I think a buffet style dinner usually works out best for bigger numbers. That way you don't have to be exact with a head count up front and people get a
range of foods to choose from. They should work out a menu of half a dozen meals.
As for price, I've no idea how much anything costs over there, but $50 or under sounds good for all of the above. You should include an option of just dinner and show, for
those who don't want the tee though(not that there'll be many... but...). The other option is just going with 'dinner and show' or 'just show' and sell the tees on the night separately.
While I'm sure everyone wants to kick in and show support for others, we must also keep in mind that not everyone is in a situation to be able to help out as much as they would like to at
the moment. By the sound of it, just attending might be a stretch for some this time. That said, if enough people attend the dinner charging say $50 instead of $48 might subsidise the cost of
a few extra attendees?
Sounds like plans really are rolling. Thanks for your hard work sorting things out for us all!

I'll just be thrilled if I can make it, a $25 plate is more than I ever spend on dinner out.

$20 is probably about as high as I'd like to go for dinner, the general cost Xl1200r listed sound reasonable although more for the band, depending on how they do things, wouldn't be unreasonable.

HOG roast with tees and the band would set a more relaxed mood that most of us will be comfortable with. I hope we can get the Elves out for this event and want to contribute funding for them, even if I can't make it.

Great ideas, thanks to all you guys working on this!

Father's Day??

I know you can't appease everyone, but this is a date conflict that literally everyone would have...was it considered?

I like having the Elves there for free, I don't mind paying $30 for a $15 dinner if a former Buell worker gets to eat free.
They should have some name tags or ID for the Elves.
They wouldn't have to pay for a drink all night.

Also I think selling the t-shirts separate is a good idea.
You'll probably sell plenty of them anyway but breaking the cost up will help draw more people.

T-shirts should not cost more than $9-10, probably more like $6 in the quantities needed. PM me if you need a good t-shirt company- I have used one several times and am very happy with them.

Oh, has anyone suggested a charity auction?
I'm sure with that many Buellers in one place you could make a nice haul selling unique or rare Buell items.
