You haven't seen my Honda ST1300 yet, have you? at 600 lbs, it's bigger than your cow, but still dives into the corners real well! It has replaced the oogly...
Perhaps you can slide a little bit of that track day fund, into a Trumpet fund to get your suspension up to spec, that will definitly help make the bike feel better than a cow. : )

Cj and Ed, hope you two made it back ok. We had a nice ride and only got rain on Monarch Pass and it was only hot when we dropped down into Canon City.

I had a great time and it was good to see you both again.

We Made it just fine. only got rained on the last 5 miles or so to CJ/s house. My last 25ish miles was pretty damp, but no actual rain. Pics as soon as I get to them.

Ed and I were the only ones from NM. Murrae and Mabel had to cancel due to a death in the family.

Dave & Denise, Bob & Diane, Roger & Janet from Denver area all rode two up. Frank came out on Friday and his wife/gf (not sure what the status is there) came out on Saturday. They're from somewhere outside of Colorado Springs. And then Jodi came out on his 9S. So, 8 bikes all together.

It was a good time. Ed and I rode out on Friday, didn't leave Rio Rancho until 1pm. Then we went up thru Santa Fe & Espanola, took 285 to Tres Piedras, US64 to Tierra Amarilla, then up through Chama to Pagosa Springs. That ride was nice. Not too rushed, light traffic, etc.

Saturday, we met up at the Pagosa resort and then left out around 0900 or so. West to Durango, where Frank and Jodi peeled off. They took US550, The Million Dollar Highway, up through Silverton and Ouray. The rest of us went out to Cortez, then turned north through Dolores and lunched in Teluride. Lunch was nice, but by the end, it was getting pretty cloudy coming in from the south and west. We could see lots of clear skies up to the north, where we were headed, so we took our chances. We did ride through some rain for about 20-30 minutes, but then we outran the storm as we descended along the Dolores River and it got hot and we dried out.

Once we were on 141, the scenery got really nice. The road up to Gateway from the south is amazing. It really looks like at some time a million years ago or something, that area was under water. The sides of the valley look like it used to be a river bank or something. Really neat. Then, there is a canyon that the river cuts through where the road is pretty cool. Ed thought it looked like it should be in a roadrunner and coyote cartoon. Lots of big sweeping rights and lefts with some nice straights thrown in. Good ride. All pretty high speed.

The resort was nice, but expensive. There's no good reason for it to be there, but it is. And it's a great spot, too. Temps weren't too harsh although it was over 100 in the canyon coming in. We arrived around 5pm and then we unwound for a little bit before meeting for dinner. Dave had T-shirts made and brought awards to give out. Dinner was tasty. Room was cozy.

We left the next morning after breakfast. Departed around 0830, a little behind schedule. Ed and I had a long way to go. We did the million dollar highway coming back and it's the first time either of us had been there, so we were pretty impressed... and scared to death! There isn't a guard rail anywhere on that road. Just the "Magic White Retaining Stripe" as Dave says. Beautiful scenery. I'd love to have had another day to explore around.

Ed and I stopped for lunch at Handlebars in Silverton for lunch. Not too bad, but you know... bar food. We didn't get home until 6pm and I had logged 920 miles for the weekend. I got my ticket just north of Cuba flying down 550. We were trying to outrun the weather and probably would have made it if we didn't get stopped.

In all, I had a great time. Thankfully, I took yesterday off to recuperate. Hopefully we'll have more people get out there next time. We sort of decided to have next year's rally in Red River, so we'll start planning that soon.

Yeah... I broke the 1 minute barrier. I was finally able to run 59 second lap times. Just 7 more and I'll be able to compete with the REALLY fast guys.

Nick ran a good race.

Anyone going to be able to make it out for the Oct 4th track day?

The track is usually exciting, sometimes a bit frustrating, and always challenging. I put Pirelli Super Corsas (SC2) on the 1125R and was able lower my best lap times by 5 seconds from the last track/race day about two months ago. I was also more consistent from lap to lap even in race traffic. I'm not where I want to be but I'm better than I have ever been. I think I ran a clean race and stayed out of Matt Ford's way who was on a tear! Now I have to work on my suspension settings.

Bike is in the shop... the clutch actuator is losing hydraulic fluid and the steering head needs tightening - so the dealer gets to honor the warranty. Hope the shop at SFHD just fixes it.

I'll be at the next track day and race days. BMW is the sponsor and usually does free track days for beemer owners (which I am) and you get into the dealer early. I haven't heard a thing about "free" this year. I'll be there anyway. If its not free I'm bringing the Buell.

I would love to do it, but I just don't think a track day is in the cards for me this year. I have a lot going on right now, particularly with my marathon training. I'm coming down to the wire. My marathon is Oct 25th. I'm doing a half-marathon this Sunday and going to Hawaii for 10 days.

That all adds up to no dinero for CJ.

Kim, CONGRATS on breaking that 1 minute barrier!!!
I know you've chasing that for awhile now.

RideFest is this coming weekend, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday... I'll be riding the MiniBago:

Surely you can keep up with this big boat! LOL It's actually very agile for it's size. I've put race tech springs in front with gold valves and the front handles like a dream now!
We look forward to seeing you there!!!
OH, the oogly is for sale if you know anyone looking for an '08 XB12XT with 15,500 miles. $7000

Ok, so first impression of a track day.

Holy moly was that fun! I never realised what my bike could do. I knew it was fast in the corners but cripes was it am eye opener.

however, it was a very exhausting experience. It was a hard workout for muscles that were not normally pushed that hard during everyday riding.

More to come when I have had a bit of time to rest.

And it was good to see you again Nick

Track day was fun... I would have preferred the Buell out on the track but you can't beat a FREE track day...So the K bike and I got a chance to play.

Ed, it was good to see at least one Buell out there.
CJ - bring the bike next time!

Yea... I think the track pipe might have claimed yet another victim.

Ed, glad to hear that you had a great time.

I would have like to be there, but Barber was too much fun. Even if the last race was in a down pour with 6 inches of water running across the track.

There was a few Buells there running in the Thunderbike class.

A sad day...

I realize this is a business decision but that doesn't make it feel any better.

Buell was building great sport bikes, and an 1125RR won its class in AMA. While Buell was creating a new image, new emblem, clothing, race parts etc...and while Buell was crushing the Blast... HD was preparing to crush Buell.

Hmmmm.

Race day was ok... Wasn't running as fast as last time.

The track crowd was well aware of the demise of Buell and most were sympathetic.

The big picture is more ominous... This represents yet another loss of American innovation and manufacturing.

Hopefully the corporate heads at HD will think about younger riders, sport bikes, and racing in the future... when they recover from the MV Augusta blunder and economic recession realities.
