There is also a huge portion of the Buell community who has nothing to do with email or online boards. Look at the number of bikes sold vs the number of members for the boards.

BTW Bill, with the exception of the dinner deal in East Troy, any of the other events or dinners can be ala carte. RA just requires you to pay if you want to enter & for the other 2 dinners, you can order directly off the cheap menu or eat before you go & just sit with everyone else & have a couple drinks.

Dyna...Now that you got my hopes up...Just watch, some Nazi will change the rules and post guards. I like to play by the rules, but when the rules keep me out of the game, I am not a real happy camper.

Like your idea of the cheap menu but unless the rules change Di and I are not going to see Erik this year especially when facing a potential $150.00 hit for The Erik Buell Show. Oh well, in the event of limited seating, it it probably best to leave room for the visiting hoards.

Then again, $150 would have got me a couple of the cheap seats for the Elton John/Billy Joel concert a few months before the Harley 100th last year. Ironic how a few months later folks had to be ordered to sit and listen to him. Thank God Erik's comedy act is so superior. No Joke.

Bill, I have never been to a Brag event that was locked down tight like the HOG events are.

2002 at Deals Gap we had the dinner at the Fontana resort. I think it was $20 or $25 a person & we could pay the day of the dinner. Well the wife & myself along with a few others found out what they were serving & decided it was not worth the money. We ordered burgers & chicken off the regular menu. We ended up with better food for less $$ & thats no lie. Nobody cared either because the restaurant was still getting money from us. Had a great time with Jose, Shazam, Racerboy, etc etc.

We are going to the Brag event in N.Carolina during sept but im not signing up for anything. I already have several places lined up to crash at & will spend the time riding, eating & hanging out with fellow riders. I dont need to spend a lot of $$$ for "official" factory offerings to have a great time. An event is what you make it, & if you are relying on the factory or Brag to provide you with a good time, then you will be disappointed.

An event is what you make it

Agreed. That remains true no matter how many participate or who organized it.

if you are relying on the factory or Brag to provide you with a good time, then you will be disappointed.

I still resist accepting this as fact. Then again, I believe in the bond (common dream, etc.) that exists between the Buell owners and Erik.

In as much as I don't want to believe it, your comment could be justified if you consider some organizers could be doing it for the money and not the dream.

Addendum:

Based on Spooky's comment in the "For the Factory" thread, I have the feeling that I may have made a mistake in my assessment of the situation and apologies are due.

Assume that BRAG does know the demographics of their membership and that they are doing the best they can for us given the parameters they have to function within.

The problem is that some of us think of BRAG as HOG and/or HDI and anticipate/expect the same treatment (good or bad) as HOG gets.

I guess the best course of action is to simply submit suggestions to BRAG concerning how we feel about certain issues. Then just wait and see what develops over the long term.

Another interesting point I would like to address is Fuell vs HOG Tales. Now that I have read both, it appears that Fuell is much more to my liking. Fuell addresses the issues a sport/sport touring/mechanically inclined rider likes to read about and HOG Tales addresses the touring rally rider.

In as much as Fuell is underwhelming in size, its diversification and content is much better. So far, all HOG Tales appears to be is a travel guide. Hopefully there will be more sporting and technical articles in the future.

Of interest, I have yet to receive a single issue of "Enthusiast" with either my BRAG or HOG membership. Hmmm...I wonder if this is a data entry problem or if my post person is ripping me off?

Two things, maybe three or so, we'll see how many when I'm done.... ; )

First, I've got my kitcar on ebay if anyone is curious. I even through some text in there about the Western Union scammers and so far haven't been contacted by any of them, thankfully. I'm not looking for bids from the locals on the site here, just thought some of you might find it amusing what I wrote in the text of the auction.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&category=7251&item =2464490255&sspagename=STRK%3AMESSE%3AIT

Second, perhaps someone at the corp publications level should consider combining HOG Tales and FUELL into one publication. Would broden the reach of both, would maybe get Leslie to change "(Buell too)" into "and Buell" in her writings, would maybe help to bridge (or widen) the cultural differences between the two groups and show that there is interest on both sides for both sides, and would perhaps improve relationships overall. Just a thought. But it would have to be run with separate editorial agencies, one for HOG, one for Buell/BRAG, with separate tables of contents perhaps. Or do like one magazine did a few years ago with HOG Tales reading from one side, and with FUELL reading from the other side, and just flipping in upside down for whichever one you were interested in at the time. Seemed like a great concept, two fronts, no back seats, everybody rides shotgun. Which brings me to a third item....

Third, shooting,
Sounds good depending on the time and place and schedule. I've got a case of 12gauge light trap loads that needs to be used, as well as a few other little toys that would be good to get back out and exercise a little. : )

Fourth,
Jerry, your BadweB access from work may not be a company issue. We are having major problems with net access and firewall issues right now. We can not get to any .asp or .cgi pages, or any sub-pages like the discussion section here. I can get to the main front page with the click-past blue logo banner, but not past it. For a test try to go to the jsonline.com web site and see if you can get past the main page and into any of the click-thru stories. If not they your IT people are probably just as frustrated as our's are. I'm thinking it's either an extremely clever virus variant or else various upgrades to firewalls have major bugs in interoperability in them. Time will tell, but right now it is affecting our doing business in a major way (plus it's messing up my background surfing too).

Mike...Just read your Ebay Ad. Wow...You just gave "Truth in Advertising" a whole new definition.

I think the only thing you might have overlooked is brand of and estimated remaining mileage concerning the tires. LOL

Interesting concept concerning combining Fuell and HOG Tales into the Flip'n'Read format.

The only problem is the volume of content. You could fit an entire year of Fuell into just one issue of HOG Tails. LOL

Mike...If I had the time/money/energy, I'd have to give a couple more thoughts to your car.

Oh well, I guess it will go in the "someday" file (along with a lot of other toys : D)

Nope, been reading it for 7-8 years now & they stay away from technical stuff. Half the time its nothing more than basically what amounts to ads for their rallys. Definitely is aimed at the weekend warrior touring folks. The rest of us are just left twisting in the breeze.

Finally broke down and got the bikes off the racks today. Didn't even bother dusting them off or breaking out the riding gear. Just fired them up and went for a ride. Oh Lord, I pray winter is over and we get an extended riding season this year.

Of interest, the Glider was its usual domestic ride with excellent low speed handling abilities and smooth torque delivery.

The inverse is the X1 was like a Thoroughbred at the starting gate. Whew, I forgot how much fun whacking that throttle open is. Felt like I needed to go home and get my riding gear on to enjoy it. LOL

I get the feeling I am going to dig out my cold weather riding gear and hit the twisties at Holy Hill tomorrow.

Question...I forgot what to do to prevent the X1 from sliding all around my driveway while warming up. Today it left a 12' garf mark in my driveway and the funny part is that was moving backwards up a very slight incline. LOL

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated as I both want to save the driveway and not find the Buellski laying on it's side. Hockey Puck and tie downs???

Bill,
The only remedy for controlling the Buell Dance is by sitting your keester on the seatster. Just be thankfull it didn't trash the whole garage like one Buell owner reported in the last year.

Dennis,
I've been known to do horse trades, but I no longer drink wine. ; ) I think one guy just offered me some autographs in trade for it if it doesn't sell. I'm thinking I'll settle for autographs from the secretary of the treasury printed on greenish paper with presidential portraits printed next to the signature, thems the usually good kind of autographs.

ps, Bill, made it down to the bike shop in Waukesha, left nose prints on their front windows. Got there 30 minutes after they closed. : )

Mike...Too funny. Both All Pro and Road, Track 'n' Trail close at 3:00PM on Saturday. That put me 15 minutes late at RT&T and about 30 minutes late at All Pro. Must have just missed you.

Thanks for the info on the Buell Dance. Looks like I had best give up on the thought of letting it warm up while I am suiting up to save time. LOL

Yep,
When I let the M2 warm up I stand next to it with a toe against the kickstand as I strap on the helmet and zip up the jacket. On the S2 I always sit on the seat, I have a low comfort level letting that one idle on the sidestand, or perhaps I should call it a lean-post since the S2 cants over so far.

The kitcar hit the reserve price, bidders from as far as three states away, one guy wants me to bring it up to Minneapolis if he wins, two folks in Michigan say they'll come get it, one guy in Oklahoma might want me to meet him half-way. Interesting stuff. And now I can get to this site but can't read email from here. It's a wierd, wacky, computerized world, perhaps www doesn't stand for WorldWideWeb afterall, perhaps it stands for WierdWackyWorld instead.

And if the kitcar sells then I can get new rubber for the scooter. That would be a good thing.

I heard another rumor there was another meeting planned at Hal's this Thursday. Perhaps I'll have to renew, haven't decided which way yet though. Oh well, off to see what I've missed.

RE: Buell Parking Brake . . . I've seen a couple of folks lock down the front brake with a velcro wrap or some such at Homecoming and other events . . . dunno if I'd trust it on a sloped driveway or not (the MaDeuce dug a nive little fox hole (for a very small fox) last summer when it was 95+ out . . .. yet another use for the scoot . . . . easily movable jackhammer!

Looks like the X1 will get some exercise this week. Other than temps in the high 30's, the weather forecast doesn't look too bad and last weeks rains did a good job of washing off the road salts.

Just a posting that everybody got via e-mail(if I have your e-mail)

Hey Everybody,

I bet most of you really want to get out and ride. Some of you may even be like me and go sit in the garage and make vroom vroom noises while sitting on the bike. Well the wait isn’t much longer, our first scheduled group ride is Sunday March 28th. This ride is titled, “Shake the Rust” and is going to be a nice leisurely ride to get reacquainted with your bike and others. As always, being this early in the season, this ride is weather permitting. A notification will be sent out if the ride is put on hold due to such things as an ice storm or large hail.(You never know in March. (hee, hee, hee).

To get us ready for the upcoming riding season, this months meeting will focus on spring tune up and maintenance items and procedures. Hal’s will be guiding us through the basics, so bring questions for the experts.

Remember that this month is the last month to get your membership turned in so that we can get the official list turned into Hal’s for the 10% BRAG discount. If you cannot make the meeting please let me know and we will get you set up so you can still make the list.

Looking forward on the schedule, the Wildcat Mountain trip will be held July 24th-25th. We would like to make a reservation at a campground early this year and take deposits for those of you that want to have a great time on some of the best roads that Wisconsin has to offer. We will discuss this at Thursday’s meeting.

Jerry
