The vid was done in 2x speed to make it more interesting and to fit the music. Real speed seems slower than actual and makes the video longer and basically boring as Hell. 2x speed seems just slightly too fast to be real, but I think adds a smidge of excitement that matches the feeling of actually riding curvy roads with a techno beat in your head.

CycleGear had a GoPro Wide on their clearance rack yesterday for 20% off. It looked perfect. Somebody will get a nice one for cheap. I love this little camera. I have taken lots of footage with it. The hard part is finding the time to edit. It takes pretty good stills also.

That was pretty cool Lee. Of course you're a camera nazi so I wouldn't expect anything less! That camera does get some good quality video. How much memory does it hold or is it expandable?

It takes up to a 2Gb SD card. That will shoot an hour, which doesn't sound like a lot, but trust me, it is more than enough. I shoot a few minutes of each angle and that's about it. 2Gb cards are about $7 each at Microcenter, so I just carry a few extras just in case, but I only used one for the whole weekend and I got more footage than you would want to look at in a lifetime. Most folks don't want to see your whole ride anyway. You'll bore the shiznit out of them.

that is a very nice system.

I read a post on buelletinboard awhile back where a guy wired up a bullet cam, mic and a card recorder to his battery for a slightly more permanent setup on his bike.

I am really torn between the GoPro option, or building a full setup like what is seen here:
http://www.buelletinboard.com/forums/showthread.ph p?t=9512&highlight=card

Duff,
You have no need for one of these. All we would see is the sky.

I guess I hadn't thought about that. Somehow you always keep me grounded with the most obvious sh!t I seem to miss.

Biff, which setup to go with depends on what kind of vids you want to make. If you want to document every ride, beginning to end from the same viewpoint everyday for insurance purposes, film an entire track day, or if you want bragging rights for having built it yourself, I'd say go with the one you linked to. Otherwise, if you just want to goof around with MS Moviemaker or Lightroom, the GoPro is hard to beat and it is easy to get good results with. It's a minor nit and easy to fix, but I noticed the dude's camera was rotated a few degrees off level.

One thing I have learned is that the key to making one of these vids a little more interesting is to move the camera around the bike and take in multiple angles. The mounting system on the GoPro makes this easy. I've got mount bases stuck to all three of my bikes in several places each and all of my helmets have at least one. (Then again, I have also been called a camera-nazi.) The camera just snaps in and out of the bases.

VERY good point. I had never thought about it that way, but it makes complete sense.

I am going to hold off at the moment, and look into doing this later in the season (probably late August, early September time frame).

I would like to have widescreen capabilities at the least, maybe even full HD if possible. (Well, probably 720p as 1080p is a bit of overkill)

Did you consider the vholdr option? or just GoPro?

Yep. It was very high on the list, but I liked the price of the GoPro. A buddy picked it up for me at the CES show in Vegas for a flat $125. I realized that I would likely not miss the HD and I was right. I just goof around with this stuff for fun and to entertain friends on the Internets, I'm not a pro-sumer (yet). I would consider the VholdR a GoPro on serious rhoids. If you can afford it, I say go for it!

One thing, I'll point out is that I have dropped my GoPro doing over 90mph (fell out of the tank bag while I was going for my other camera - don't ask). It survived with just a little minor road rash to one corner of the case. Point being - cheap is good when you are careless and reckless. : D

$125 seems like a pretty good deal.

I am just a total nut job about widescreen (notice I didn't say HD).

Sure HD I nice, but I just love the extra real estate provided by 16:9.

I am a TOTAL amateur when it comes to this stuff, but I like things to be (somewhat) future proof (if possible).

Everything I do will be for myself with a little sharing on the net.

Cool thing about the GoPro or Vholdr is you can easily take the camera off the bike, and shoot other vids / take pics.

That would be extremely nice when at bike shows or on big group rides.

Actually the thing holding me from past BBQ is they have been held on weekends I have my daughter.

Anyone checking out the UFC this weekend? Pretty good fight card compared to what they have had in the last year or so.

Should I do it? I just got a kit and was thinking it would look different for a bit. Its only vinyl so I can always take it off.

And remember, my bike is artic white/blue. So it would look a little different then the one in the pics. Or I could see bout selling it to one of the guys on here for a profit.

Meh, kinda ghey if you ask me. I've never liked those colors together as a paint scheme. Red/white/blue is not a very good color combination if you ask me. The only reason to use those colors is on a flag.

Fine. I guess I'll throw it up for sale in the classified section. But I still need to buy a hero blue transparent airbox. I think that would be somewhat cool.

if any of you are interested...

I am MOST LIKELY (not 100% sure just yet) going to go watch the races at HPT this weekend.

I believe there is a guy coming down from up north to race a buell. His name is SD26 on buelletinboard (Dave is his real name, if I recall). Its been awhile, but last time I talked to him, he said he would be down this weekend.

I am not sure if I will ride the bike, or take the truck, as a buddy of mine (who doesn't ride) really wants to go. BUT, he might be all talk.

If any of you want to ride over, let me know and I will tell him we are riding instead of driving, and he can drive himself.

Ratfink found the pricing structure here:
http://ccsracing.us/venues/hpt.html

$25 for a sat-sun pass.
it doesn't look like there is a sat only option. needless to say, we are not going.

seems a bit steep to me.

anyways... maybe we should all mark our calendars for the ama races at the end of the month.
