Micah,
Impressive route. Sounds like the "Moss Detection Device" passed with flying colors.

For those in the North Texas/Oklahoma area this next week:

PGR North Texas is making a ride on April 1st & 5th. It is for the living Medal of Honor recipients. If you would like to be part of the escort of these men from DFW to Gainesville, please email pgrlucas@charter.net and let him know you would like to participate.

It’s not every day we have the honor of meeting a MOH winner. It is not every day we can repay them for what they have been through in service to this country.

Esccort on 4/1 from DFW to Gainesville. And a return escort on 4/5 from Gainesville to DFW.

If you're not a PGR member, email Steve (pgrlucas@charter.net) anyways if you can make it, either day. They are coordinating the LEO's for the procession.

Ok, I'm hoping to go for a ride this weekend if anyone is interested.

So far I've been thinking about tagging along with another forum's ride, but they're going all the way to Houston and back, not sure if I want to commit that much time. I was hoping for something more like 50-200 miles.

If anyone wants to ride somewhere closer to the Metroplex Sat or Sun let me know and we can throw something together.

Micah,

"The wife and I..." You're a very lucky man. "Get out and ride"... and a wise one too. : )

Chilly up on the ridge this early in the year? I've experienced some of the most harrowing and some of the most glorious rides up on Skyline drive, from pea soup fog so thick I couldn't always make out the edge of the road to rogue wind gusts that about knocked the bike over, to crystal clear and gorgeous, and then there was even that nice ambulance ride to Poteau, OK.

Thanks Blake!

The only reason I own a Goldwing is because she "Wanted" to ride with me. Every time I mention riding somewhere she says "Lets Go!"

I have only ridden Talimena 3 times and one of those was on a bicycle. The aforementioned day we rode it, the cloud ceiling was high, but it was a gloomy day and yes it was chilly (54) to be exact.

We will being doing it again real soon.

anyone planning any rides? trips? how about the xblights/dark horse event? someone good with event planning should come up with a weekly/monthly/quarterly ride or event calendar - it would be cool to just have some Buell meets

I have offered the lake house on the west shore of Eagle Mountain Lake for a get together. Mark your calendar for Saturday, June 6th. In May we'll start ironing out the details. It's just off of FM 730, about 10 miles south of Hwy 114 in Boyd or 3 miles north of Hwy 199 in Azle.

Cowtown - Sounds great. I'm not sure I can commit, but I do hope to be able to maybe meet some fellow BWB'ers soon.

07xb12ss - Last time I spoke to Peter, who runs another Buell group website, he said he's not had a lot of time lately to set things up and probably wouldn't for a while. So, it looks like we need someone to grab the torch, so to speak.

I would offer, but everyone seems to live on the north side of town and I live on the south side. Also, everyone tends to ride on Sundays, it seems, while Saturdays work out better for me. Perhaps most importantly, though, in my case, I don't think my having participated in only one group ride to date would qualify me to lead an event. I did spend a short amount of time in the lead my first time out, since I was familiar with the area we were in, and during that time, we lost at least one rider to a missed turn because I don't know my hand signals. Plus, like everyone else, I don't have a lot of free time to scout ahead days before for road construction zones or other conflicts, or work out gas stops and eating places along the way - that takes a lot of work. I just tend to ride when I have time, and go where the road takes me. I think a lot of Buell owners are lone wolf types like that - it fits the MO.

Good Friday's coming up. Maybe you've got something in mind? Perhaps, if you have the time to set plan it out and set it up, you could start right here and set up a time, place and route and see who shows up. There are plenty of other lurkers out here that would probably join in if they could. If not, once the meeting time is passed, just go riding as usual.

Who knows? Maybe I'll take my own advice someday. If anyone has a desire to ride south and west of the metroplex, there are a lot of open roads out that way that I tend to know pretty well. Maybe I could set something up.

Got another question for ya'll.

Insurance is due at the end of the month for me. Right now I'm paying a little over $400 /yr. for full coverage. I know we all ride different types of Buell's, but what kind of rates are you all getting, if you care to share?

~$600 yr full coverage for my 1125R and my wife's XB9XS. Both over 25 with clean records & rider training (10% discount usually).

Never hurts to shop around with all of the insurance companies though to see what fits you best.

Hey, guys! Long time, no see...

I've been lurking again, getting the itch for another Buell. Rode some at the last Demo Days at AE, liked the 1125R and CR, but felt most comfortable on the XB12Ss (no surprise there).

In the meantime, here's what I've been "riding" - I've spent enough money on the engine, suspension, and wheels/tires to buy another Buell!

This was at the SCCA Solo National Championships last September, in Topeka KS. I finished mid-pack, but won the Texas Region Championship in my class. My next local race is June 14 at TMS.

Stay dry!

Chris,
We're having a BBQ at the lake house Saturday June 6th. Stay tuned for details. We could use some of your experience with organizing a group.
I saw you in 2007 at MSR but when I got ready to talk your were gone. Nice ride, bring it to the BBQ.

Hey guys and gals!

June 6th from 2PM until ???
there will be a BBQ at Cowtowns lakehouse in Azle, TX right on Eagle Mountain Lake.
(11554 Moran Rd. Azle, TX 76020)

We would like to have as many folks from the Buell family there as possible!

We are going to do this family style :-)
Since funds are low, we are asking for folks to bring whatever then can, food, utensils, drinks, condiments, etc.

Now, we know a good bit of you guys will be riding, but if you could make a small donation to help cover the costs that would be great!
(Anything extra will be givin to Paul for letting us use his lakehouse)

It is BYOB, but lets be adults and know our limits on drinking and driving/riding.
NO ONE is to leave drunk and behind the wheel/handle bars.
If anyone would like to have Paul pickup there beer, he will but you must reimburse him.

There will be room to camp out if needed.
There will be a gas grill and burner available to anyone to use if camping out.
(but, no campfires!)

There will be plenty of room for various outdoor activities. Swimming, fishing, horse shoes, etc... Bring what ever you'd like.
Also, for anyone driving in...if you have a foldable chair try and bring it.

We will have some chicken and hot dogs, but if anyone can bring anything else that would be great! There will be a grill ready for use :-)

West Bay Marina is only a 1/4 mile away if anyone wants to bring their own boats, they can launch there and tie up to Pauls dock at the lakehouse.

Spouses and kids welcome, but please note there will be adult beverages.

Let me know who all is interested and what you can bring. Please email me and let me know. That way we don't have 6 guys show up with relish :-)

I hope to see many Bueller there!!!
Stay safe!
-Robert

Hello fellow Buellers. Robert has provided all the necessary details but I wanted to chime-in as co-host. I will provide the smoke chicken, brew a couple gallons of tea and I’ll have several ice chests full of ice. Robert is planning on bringing hot dogs and the fixings. What we’ll need is:
The usual side dishes
Soft drinks and bottle water
Rolls
Chips
Plastic plates, forks, spoons, knives, cups and paper towels.
As Robert suggested everyone needs to communicate on what they’re bringing. We should try to reserve the rolls, chips or utensils for those that want to ride. As Robert mentioned if you plan on riding let me know how much and what kind of beer you want and I’ll pick it up for you. Also for those that are riding there is a Randy’s groceries about a ½ mile south of Moran Rd. on FM 730. There’s also an Albertsons and Wal Mart on FM 730 just north of Hwy 199 in Azle.

To get to my house from the south take Hwy 199 to FM 730 in Azle and go north 2.7 miles to Moran Rd. From the north take Hwy 114 to FM 730 in Boyd and go south 10.2 miles to Moran Rd. From Boyd there’s no street sign indicating you’re approaching Moran Rd. However there’s a VFW Post on the right just .3 miles before Moran Rd. There’s a Compass Bank and convenient store at Moran Rd. on FM 730. You can only turn east on Moran Rd., go 1.7 miles and look for Lash on the mail box and on sign by the driveway.
June 6th is the day before the full moon and one of the longest days of the year so come watch the lake turn from gold to silver.
Yall come now, you hear.
Paul

Hows it goin DFW Buellers!?

Ive been lurkin on the DFW forum here for a bit, and I finally decided id post something lol. I have a few questions I was hoping you guys might be able to help me with.

I currently live in Kansas City, but I just spent all of last week down in Dallas looking at houses and areas to live etc. I really like the area! My wife and I decided that we REALLY like the Grapevine/Southlake area. I was wondering if there were any more areas around like that? We drove around quite a bit, but I really didnt know where anything was (other than highways) so I couldnt really tell what areas were good/bad. We plan on coming back down there pretty soon to look and hang out some more, try and get to know the area before we pack up and move (which will be a while).

Also, does DFW have a dedicated sportbike forum? Here we have a KCsportbike forum, but I cant seem to find one for Dallas.

Anyways, thanks for your help, and I saw TONS of bikes down there this week! It looks like a blast!

Hmm. Thats not as bad as I thought...I was amazed at how much highway there is in Dallas LOL. In KC we only have 3 main highways....Since we were in Grapevine a lot, we took 121, which isnt really a "major" highway, but it was every bit as big, if not bigger than our main highway here LOL...youre guys little po-dunk highways are bigger than our Interstates.

Steven,
Looks like you have the northern area covered. Assuming you plan on working in downtown Dallas and you’re interested in the southern area, the Hwy 67 corridor has some nice bedroom communities that are less congested. Mansfield in Tarrant Co., Midlothian and Waxahachie in Ellis Co. and Alvarado in Johnson Co.
If you’ll be here on the 6th come to the BBQ in Azle, way west of Dallas.

Ill have to check those areas out. Like I said before, we really had no idea where we were looking or what roads are main roads etc. So I appreciate you guys giving me some areas.

As far as where we live, it doesnt really matter as long as its not too far and its nice...im a union worker so ill most likely be all over the city.

Well, Mansfield was a bedroom community when I moved out here, but it now has visions of "Southlake" dancing in it's (or the city council's) head. It's grown a lot over the last few years, but three stoplights, a couple of stop signs and you're back in the country. Lots of accessible, out-of-the-way country roads.

There's a lady at my office (east Dallas) that commutes from Rio Vista. Another guy commutes from Ennis. Still another from Maypearl. One girl commuted from Grandview. Awesome country out there. I'd love to live in any one of those places, but oh, what a commute. What a gas bill, too.

Steven,
When you say "you'll be working all over the city" do you mean Dallas or the DFW metroplex? Will the quality of the school districts matter?
My description of a bedroom community are those cities with very little industry and just a 4 block central business district. You're not going to avoid a lot of retail and restaurants in most areas.
Hugh is right about the southwestern part of the metroplex being just a few miles away from the beginning of the best motorcycle roads in the area. Check this website:
http://www.motorcycleroads.us/regions/tx_north.htm l
Be sure to check out the additional roads and loops under the map.

Depending on where exactly/major area you plan on working, there are a lot of nice places to look at down here. Feel free to pick everyone's brains and welcome to TX.

I dont have any kids, its just me and the wife so when we first get out there im not real worried about school districts. Im not sure if ill just be working in Dallas or in FW, I guess it could go either way. I dont mind living in smaller towns, I grew up in them here in Kansas, but I dont want to be real far from downtown (or humanity for that matter LOL). I commute all over here. I live where sometimes I drive 35 or 40 miles to get to the jobsite, or sometimes im working 2 min from home (like right now). Usually its a happy medium.
