As another 1 race deal or what?

I dont believe BMW competed in any other events except Daytona last year. And wasnt the field nothing but BMW's for that race?

It was a sales tactic pure & simple. BMW exploited it, their sales are up over 13% here in the USA so it worked or at least helped.

BMW is doing the same deal as last year. 1 ama race & thats it.

They do have a series of 8 races, but the ama one doesnt count towards their points & all the other races are overseas.

>>>>blow off some of the rust
Do NOT miss Mitch Boehm's editorial "Rust Never Sleeps - Part II{ this month.

BMW has some very skilled marketing people (Hi Lucy 1) who have come from places like O&G.

BMW is well funded, having never made an y secret (the comment was made in reference to their fine luggage) that car revenues underwrite motorcycle activites.

I have even been part of a little deal where BMW, having put up $2M as a sponsor, went to extraordinary lengths, to keep Buell from being showcased as "innovative innovation".

I own a BMW, I like their bikes and a friend is their Chief Designer (he also did the Corvette Sting Ray and MB "S" Class)

The BMW Race is more a commercial than a race. That having been said, I will confess to lusting over an R1150SJS.

Thanks Guys...

Love BMW's, both two and four wheelers. Perhaps you knew Mattias. BMW tech they sent over from the old country that has/had an independent shop in LA. Very colorful person and a member of our riding group out west.

Don't like Boehm as a result of listening to him way too many times at the Lookout. Plus he is a low class act and his magazine reflects it. Edwards is a much more interesting fellow. Not to mention Erik outshines them both. Translation: this editorial had better be good. LOL

Now, Where can I find out what events Buell will be participating in at Road America? Whoops, I bet I can get that info either from Buell at the Chicago IMS or from Hal's Performance Shop. Duh

Hey all...Was perusing both the HD and BMC websites and both have advanced and group riding classes. It looks like they are actual MSF courses that you are referred to by Riders Edge.

The sites only describe the course content and then refer you to the MSF website where you can email for information on local classes.

I liked the description of the advance class as it dealt with real world riding hazards and is in no way a racing class.

It took me years and a number of scary moments to learn the stuff they teach you in one day. Wish they had had the classes back when I started riding.

Heck, back then you didn't need a motorcycle license as there were no tests or special requirements for riders. The only instruction you got was "it's just like a bicycle." Dang, nobody even thought up countersteering back then. You just winged it and prayed a lot. LOL

If anyone out there is interested in improving their skills in the twisties, gravel, rain and accident avoidance techniques, this just may be for you. Check it out.

From the "You Ain't Gonna Believe This" File...

There is some hearty soul running up and down North Avenue out here in Brookfield wringing the neck of his crotch rocket today. Burn outs, wheelies and all sorts of neat slides in the sand, salt and slush.

Must be preparing for a trip to Daytona's Bike Week, eh?

Saw 1 fella up in Milwaukee earlier today on a Bagger as well. Screw that, 28 degrees & the roads are covered as you said with all kinds of crap.

When I went to the store, the guy was still zipping up and down the road which was clear other than for the sand and salt. The again the side street still had a bunch of slippery stuff.

Hey, I got it. Maybe he was trying out the new electric vest he got for Christmas. LOL

Koz, if you poke your head in here make sure you check out my quick board topic about the Chicago IMS show. I posted a couple pics of those goofy colored tires you love so much.

Dyna...Oh, that's just great. Now Koz will come out barking and biting again. Me thinks you had best put some more baffles in your pipes before he does so you can skate on that debate. LOL

Like they say, "each to his own." In theory, I like the colored tires for the concept of personalizing your bike. However, I was honestly disappointed with the color saturation. They looked much better in the ads and on their website.

The one's at the show had a dull dingy hue to them. Almost like they did not use enough color pigment to fully block the black. Is probably a formulation thing that maintains the integrity and grip of the tire. I just felt compelled to shine them up with some tire silicon. LOL

Can't wait to see how they look on Koz's bike. Natural lighting will be the real test. The artificial lighting used in the trade show exhibits really does mess up the true color of things.

Bill I talked to One of the reps there about the very thing your speaking of.He said that the red ones they had on display are a little pinky looking. He said they have been everywhere with that display and the tires they are now releasing to the public are of better color quality then what is on display. And also he was disappointed that the company hadn't updated the display. But he said they had just begun releasing the tires when they were already on tour at the IMS shows so they had no time to change the display.

Bads...Thank for the info. However, with all due respect, I find fault with what you were told.

Having on the international show circuit for 25 of my 30 year career, trust me, there is no way any responsible corporate exec would allow a non-current product to be shown.

It just does not make any sense to show old product that does not portray the improvements you have made unless you have a huge inventory of the old product that you have to dump. In this scenario, better to show the old product so folks don't start returning product for or complaining of false advertising. Man, that can create all sorts of problems that a new business may not survive.

The inverse is, if they are indeed shipping only new product, showing the old is like shooting yourself in the foot. Consider the low cost of air freighting the few tires they showed and having them mounted locally during the two or three days they have for set up at each location. If that were true, it would have been done in a heartbeat as it would result in developing greater interest and desire which would increase sales.

Oh well, just another of my never-so-humble opinions. Wish I had a nickel for every time I had to jump through hula hoops to get new products to a trade show and revamping the exhibit on the spot. Was a pain but the results were well worth the effort. LMAO

PS: I hope Koz got the new one's!!!

My thoughts are the same.Maybe considering that the tires are not US made had something to do with them not being able to update the display.I hope koz's look better also.

Mike . . .yessir . . . .. that inner stainless part remains stationary while the big outer stainless part rotates, which causes the brass (bronze?) part to move in and out (threaded) . . . . could be that warming the poor things up will help, or lubing a great deal (they've been just sitting for quite some time) . . . .

no innner sleeve that I recall from the manufacturer . . . .

Thanks for the feedback, off to soak it in some warmth for a bit. Found the following site that shows how it disassembles, just for grins (and just because I like to take things apart sometimes).

http://www.fjr1300.info/howto/throttlemeister.html

Will let you know once I gets it functional.

Sure wish the roads were clearer so's I could test it on the roads. ; )

Got it disassembled. Heat and alcohol did the trick. Hmmmm, that sounds like something from the past. Oh well, off to dip a finger in some lock lube and grease it up. Hmmmm, uh, nevermind....

Hey All...has anyone here been able to log on to the HOG members only website with their BRAG number? Historically, I couldn't. Then again, I never got any of the promised issues of Enthusiast with my BRAG membership either. LOL

Now that I switched to HOG membership (same member number) I was totally amazed at what I found. Unlike BRAG, both the website and Jan/Feb issue of HOG Tales has details on virtually all the domestic and some international HOG events planned for 2004.

I think you got a digit wrong, probably more like 2105.
Supposed to work, doesn't, end of story.

Bill,
You realize now of course that you just became designated the official town crier for all things H.O.G. that may interest us poor downtroden overlooked undersupported unrepresented induhviduals who are Buell trodden. ; )
