Hi,

I recently joined this forum to find out as much a possible about Buells because I currently ride a CBR 600 and am considering switching over to a Buell Firecolt XB9R.

Cyberbiker, I've had good luck with Clare's Cycle in Fonthill. Its a little out of the way, but worth the drive. Dave, the sales guy is friendly and was the only Buell dealer around who was negotiable on pricing. Steph, the mechanic is a certified Buell technician and rides a nasty M2. Last time I was there (November) there was a new 2003 white XB9R for $13 000.

Toronto H-D / Buell is the worst to deal with in my opinion. The few times I've been there it always seems such an inconveiniance for them to deal with Buell stuff. I think things may have changed. Last I heard Buell left the H-D building and is being sold along side Ducati's down the street.

Thanks! I agree about the Harley Toronto experience -- how can they be so clueless? I was there seriously talking to the guy about a purchase and he seemed irritated that I was asking him to price things out -- it turned out buying the 2003 White XB9R in there would be $4G less than buying a 2004 in Blue! How could I know that without pricing it out? I really hope you're right about that move to the dealership down the street -- I was in that Ducati dealership over the past weekend (dreams get you through the winter!), but I did not see any Buells there....

The guy in there was great though! He told us to go ahead and sit on the bikes and answered all of our questions -- like any reasonable dealer should. That good attitude alone made me want to consider a Ducati or an R6 (more in line with budget)from him!

I'll check out Clare's website to see if they have that XB9R. Do you have any experience with financing with any of these guys? Pass on anything you can -- again thanks!!!

I'm not sure about financing with Clare's. Buell usually has some very interesting incentives. When I purchased my 2001 X1 the offer was 0% financing for 36 months or $2000 cash back. I went for the $2000 and haggled the price down another $800.

cyber, welcome aboard! it'll be good to have you ride with us! caboose, lornce and myself are having way too much fun!

one piece of advise i'll give you is dont buy a new Buell unless you're getting a heck of a deal, and that aint gonna happen at a dealership! check autotrader.ca regularly for good deals. also, you might want to consider a tube-frame Buell, there's great deals on those, and i'm sure the bunch here can attest to the amount of fun a tuber can be

its unfortunate that toronto HD are acting the way they are. i'm good friends with the owner and manager, and i've gotten good service from them. i'll make sure to let them know. they are no longer a buell dealer, and they also own the ducati yamaha dealer too, and they wont be selling buell at all.

if i were you, i take a look at that orange S1W they have! its a beauty and i'm sure you can get her for 7G or less. S1W's are sweeeeeet bikes!

another dealer you might want to check is mackies in oshawa. they're new and eager to sell. paul mackie the owner is on the floor most of the time and a very friendly guy.

Thanks for the advice guys -- Kahuna I appreciate your info. I may have caught the guy in HD Toronto on a bad day....but seriously pricing is not tough...I just wanted exact numbers. Who else would I get them from? So if they are no longer a Buell dealer, would they be more willing to get rid of 2003 Buell stock -- specifically the 2003 XB9R he has sitting in the showroom? Also, why did you recommend a tube frame? They are quite cool -- but why would they be better than that wicked frame on the XB9's?

As for the S1, i really liked it too, but I think it is gone -- isn't this it (bottom of page)?

yes it is! too bad. that bike sat on their floor for a few months. i guess someone got to it in the end.

dont get me wrong, the XB's are awesome bikes all around! especially if you're planning to do some track days. the chassis is superior to the tubers for sure. but on the street, the tubers do shine with their monster torque. you'll find the XB9 has no low end at all, which is what counts in street riding (at least in my opinion). the XB12 is better, but still, if you try a race kitted thunderstorm motor, thats tweeked right, you'll notice the difference!

personally, i think the S1 is one of the best looking all around motorcycles out there. if i was only allowed to own one motorcycle, it would definitely be a tuber. but thats my choice.

i've probably made your decesion tougher than it already was

I'm with K when it comes to buying an S1WL. They are the coolest Buell out there. If I had the cash in 98' I'd have bought a Molten Orange / Blue Nuke for sure. I'd like to sell my X1, but the market for used Buell's is terrible. Like K said, lots of good deals on used ones.

I've ridden both the XB models in the "9" and "12" sizes. If I were to buy a new one I'd get the XB12S. Power on the "9" is lacking, it definately doesn't have the same "shove" as the 1203 motor. The XBx-R is much slower steering / more stable than the S model. With the R you have to push on the bars aggressively to steer...kinda like a Ducati 900SS, the S....just think about turning and you are.

Pay no attention to us, we love our tube frame Buells! : D

I've ridden the 9 and 12 xb's and love the chassis... in theory. Problem is, I couldn't actually exploit them on the street. Would love to rail around a track on an xb12r. If I rode around Mosport everyday, I'd prolly sell my tubers and buy one. But I only do the odd track day, so I'll keep em cause they're SO much fun on the street.

I'm in agreement with Kahoon about S1's bein so schweet. I've ridden over 30 street bikes for 25 years and nothing's made me grin and chuckle like my t-stormed S1. They're just pure fun.

The S3's, M2's, X1's and S2's ain't too shabby, either.

Careful what you believe from these two guys.... They've both got gorgeous X1's, and fuel injected X1's haul serious butt. They're more comfortable than S1's, too.

I'm not 100% certain, but I think Caboose's X1 might be a unicycle.... : D

Hey Cyber,

Not sure what kind of riding you do, but there's a guy in Michigan selling a '98 S3T on Badweb for an absolutely killer price. He was asking $4,700 last week! It's gorgeous in metalic red, and the Cdn $'s doing good these days. Last time I was in T.O. HD they were still trying to move left over S3's for more than $18k!

I ride a '98 S3T myself, and it's an awesome do anything machine. It's a touring bike with roomy bags and comfy seat and ergos.... but it'll rail around like a sportbike when the mood strikes.

Same chassis and engine specs as the S1W, just 20lbs heavier and lots more practical, smooth and comfy. Not as pretty as an S1, though that's sort of a matter of personal opinion.

Bikes are like women, eh? It's amazing what we'll endure for pretty.... : D



98' S3T for sale
Currently has S&S Super E carb. Has had all updates. Have original lower fairings, air box, deep saddle bags with all brackets, soft travel bag, Buell bike cover, and Buell service manual. The bike and bags are deep Red with silver/gray frame. PM wheels. Good rubber. Serviced yearly by dealer. Bike in overall very good condition. Garage kept.

I only recently got into riding again -- I used to ride dirt bikes till my late teens...then got back into street motorcycling fall 2003, so I guess I am sort of a newbie.

I really regret taking the time off -- I had forgotten how much fun it was! Anyway, I will most likely stick to the twisty backroads of Southern Ontario.

I think I remember the bike you are mentioning above....saw something yesterday about special circumstances forcing the sale. Either way, first I've got to finish off the tail section of my CBR 600 -- don't know if I mentioned this, but it is a 1990 CBR 600 and I am putting an R6 tail section on it -- and repainting it -- it is gonna look freaking mean! Then I might sell it and go for the Buell. If however, I can get something with $2K down or $0 down through a Buell dealer now, I will grab that and unload my bike later....hopefully in spring when prices are higher. Here is a pic of what my tail section is gonna look like when I am done!

Have you ridden an xb9? I don't mean to tell you what to do, but if you have a chance, take an xb9 for a spin before you commit to anything. Your old CBR would run rings around it....

Yeah the fairings are R6 fairings. A guy in Norway did this project and we got to talking. I am picking up my R6 tail section tonight and putting it on as soon as I get the chance -- gonna be searching for an R6 seat too of course. My wife's cousin designs cars (did the current Audi A4 and he just finished the Lincoln Aviator recently). He was over last weekend and he had ideas for the bike, which keeps me thinking of customizing the whole thing! The thing is if I go with an R6 tail end, R6 parts will be easier to come by then something custom made. For the front end, I have not decided if I will go with an R6 fairing. Even naked the bike looks hard!

I have not ridden an XB9 yet...that is why I am so uncertain at this point....I just can't get past their looks....and the stories about how they handle! The only bike I would take over them for looks is the KTM concept bike (below)......

I have heard the XB's are a little slow -- but are you serious about my CBR 600 running rings around it. How can a 600cc out run a bike with 984 cc??? I figured even with the slowness the extra displacement would make it atleast even? Its not like I am switching from an R6 right? Besides what about the frequent comments I hear about the amazing "no hesitation" torque Buells have as a result of being belt driven instead of chain driven?

OK, I think now I am confused...
