Though your pics are awful nice I always wonder why they are always taken at the same angle. How about a shot of one of them critters with the evening sky in the background? You know, artsy! We know the camera is great, show us what the monkey behind the lens can do. NUTS

Can't do it man. My photos are to show accurate color and pattern representations of each animal at a full angle. In other words, for accurate identification of species/subspecies.
If I would't have taken the shot of the Salamander as posed above you would have never known whether it was a Northern Spring Salamnder or a Blue Ridge Spring Salamander. Since I presented it the way I did now you know which one it is don't you?

Try this Pickerel Frog photo Nuts. Not super artistic but I did use high speed burst to catch him when he move so you could see the yellow lining of his leg.
That tell predators "don't eat me cause I taste AWFUL".

And a Dusky Salamander. Notice the fine composition with a pleasing background?
Getting better huh?

I figured that was a fair compromise. My viewers can still see what they are but added just a smidgeon of flair for my good buddy.

Now you're getting somewhere. I'd still like to see a snakes eye view of them frogs. Really, who's ever looked up to see a frog?

I have confirmed talk of the turkey at the farm. Pops swears he heard a gobble the other morning. I'm ot so sure, but I did get a few confirmed clucks. Next time I head north I'll be taking the turkey-talk arsenal. Lots of deer sign and they are converging on my "secret spots" nicely. Trail camera will be purchased today so I have proof for the naysayers.

Who is responsible for all this rain? Ridiculous I tell you! NUTS

Funny you mention Turkey talk Nuts. Got me a weak half hearted gobble myself last night. It was pouring down rain and close to sun down so I guess he wasn't feeling especially horny at the moment.
I imagine on a sunny dry day he'll be happy to come on in and investigate my calls (or at least I hope so).

Nice day at the club. Warm but not much moving about. Did find this single Eastern Fence Lizard.

Then I took this artsy shot for Nuts. Didn't have a tripod so its a little blurry.

Got one really hot gobbler lighting up the mountainside but left him be after it sounded like he was coming on in.

Thought this one was neat Nuts.
I watched this fella and when I knew he was headed for the water hole I was praying I'd be able to catch his reflection. He stirred up a few ripplies so the reflection isn't spot on but pretty neat effect.

Seeing the birds today I realized I had a whole other world just waiting to be explored so I was forced to purchase a serious telephoto lens and Manfrotto tripod.

Be careful there Jacman, those telephoto lens's and tripods could get an adventures lad in trouble, maybe even shot.
How about a shot of a big Tom you called in or maybe lunch time at one of Nut's infamous feeding stations/garden.
By the way, beautiful pic's of the little guys, but I didn't understand why you posted a pic for Nuts of the top of a mushroom??

Hahahaha! I thought it looked like a mushroom too. Its the moon taken at 300mm zoom.
I wasn't even thinking about the possibilities with the telephoto until you put them in my head. Now I believe I'll be forced to give it a try. Thanks man, you have started me down the path of debauchery.

I just figured frogs and toadstools kinda go together. Didn't know if Nuts had a fancy for mushrooms(some you eat and some you snort)that's what I've heard anyway.
Can't wait for you to come up with an eyeball to eyeball shot of big Tom with one thing on his mind. Could start your own documentary of Lizards and Gizzards.

I didn't think spring season had started yet, thought maybe you could get a camera shot before they got even more skittish.

So Honky, when we going after a gobble? I must leave the valley Tuesday for a quick trip to the Sunshine State. Be back by the weekend though.

Charlie, my country garden has given my city slicker family the pleasure of seeing wildlife. Extremely well worth it. Not just for the deer but turkey, squirrel(fox, grey and piebald) and a bout a thousand varieties of pretty birds. I will be chucking corn and other fare until Aug 30.

Speaking of critters: ever see a squirrel try to climb a tree with a whole fried chicken breast in its mouth? Entertaining for sure. NUTS

Nuts,
What I wanna know is how did you manage to let a squirrel get close enough to your chicken to steal a breast?Didn't happen to be nap time under the Ole Tree did it?
I have to give him credit for choosing the best piece but seems like he could have ran a lot faster with a chicken leg or wing.
It sounds like you truly do have a paradise in the mountains, but I don't want to praise you cause then you'd start gloating again.
Jackie,
I've been trying to teach my gator to roll over on command and I almost had it perfected.........but I ran out of cats.Got any you can spare a brother.

I was able to get a way from the house today for a bit. Just enough time to run a new 1125cr up Catawba Mountain and back to RVHD/Buell. I then jumped on a 9sx(because Charlie thinks the 9 motor is superior to the 12) to see for meself and a bit of nostalgia for the 52" wheelbased Lightning.

That Helicon motor is intoxicating. Kept it in 3rd gear all the way up the mountain, somewhere around 6k. That thing redlines at 10.5k!

But the XB bikes are just so good. The perfect blend of power and finesse, not too much of each. I also road a 12'Bolt and I enjoyed that too. When I hopped on Huckleberry for the ride home I couldn't believe how relaxed that thing is. It reminded me why I got the Uly: long distance traveling. If I wanted to hoon around all the time it'd have to be something more uncomfortable. But man that Helicon motor is CRAAAAZZZYYYY! Go get one jack. NUTS

Nuts
That's really not fair, climbing off an 1125 onto a 9. But I stand by my belief, the 9 vs the 12,the 9s the better motor and a better(more suited) motor for a sport bike.Bore it to 1200 and make a true comparison. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

No bikes for me Mr. Nuts. My middle aged crazy mind is screaming at me to get a pontoon boat.
The one I'm looking at is called the Bass Buggy. 18ft, 40hp Mercury, all aluminum/composite construction, livewell, etc. Basically the whole shebangabang. Got the dealers fighting over the best price as we speak.
Looks like it might be a busy Spring/Summer. Gobbler hunting, 3 softball teams, photography, road cruising, stream and lake fishing and the early Squirrel season.

When we doing the glider thing man? I'm getting a jones on to go do it.

Charlie,
I have two Spaniel mixes I'll donate to the FEED THE GATOR campaign. I'm sure nobody from the club will miss them.

Charlie, I am not disagreeing with you at all. I think the 9 and 12 motors are close in comparison. The 9 would probably run cooler, get better fuel economy and save on insurance; they just don't offer it in a Uly. The CityX was so small and cramped(just like my lightning) but such a joy. The new speedo faceplate is difficult to read though. Only regret from yesterday I have is not riding the XB12SS Lightning Long. They had one in Hero Blue Translucid with matching wheels. Maybe I'll run down to the Christiansburg store today for another round of demo's.

On the bright side; the bike emitting the most heat yesterday was the 1125cr. Felt heat through the seat and around my thighs. But man does that motor pull!

Jaxson, going for the pontoon eh? So am I going to get to use my new catfishin rig? I think now would be a good time to find some sucker who NEEDS to unload his basically new boat for chicken feed money. Ya know because the economy is in the toilet and all.... Are we going gobblin monday? NUTS

Honky, I just saw Ritz camera is going out of business and having a sale. The are located on Colonial Ave across from the Fresh Market. I'm pretty sure you need strobe lights and one of those reflective shades to give your subjects that just tanned glow.

Other sad news: Mike Kennedy died on Tuesday. He was my go-to-guy for motorcycle parts. I must've bought 10 sets of tires from him and who knows how many other doo-dads for the bikes I've owned. I even dropped the Chicken-Hawk in his shop! He could talk your ear off for sure, but I never really minded. NUTS
