The ferry service's server is a little slow but it does say it is $CND and I just sent an e-mail asking about group discounts. |

Not to be picky, but it's Crusty's Wife, no Cruty's Wife. This is really going to be fun! |

so just so i can confirm my vacation days, does everyone think the boat trip over will be on sunday August 1st or wedensday August 3rd, thats the only really date i need, as i can plan around that date either way, but the boat trip is kinda the defining time, so if everyone could put there thinking caps on, this would help a ton As far as the group discount goes, the web site said you needed 25 people, hope that helps also does anybody have any info on the ferry from St. John to the where ever, just thinking of a side trip for fun on the way up thanks guys Roger |

Wednesday is too late, If possible get the boat on August 30 or 31 to be here for the 1st. On the first Wednesday of every year is the Annual Royal St. John's Regetta - a definate must to attend as its the Oldest Sporting Event in North America. The ferry don't arrive in St. John's it arrives in Port-Aux-Basques so if you check the plan originally posted with the screwed up date I have proposed a ride into St. John's. We can either take the quick way across the island approx 850km\550mi or take two days and go the long way taking in all the scenic and twisty roads. The secondary highway roads were build along the coastline before the primary highway was put across the middle of the island.

The ferry don't arrive in St. John's it arrives in Port-Aux-Basques so if you check the plan originally posted with the screwed up date I have proposed a ride into St. John's. Actually Newfie, acording to the map there is another ferry that crosses at St. John, so i figured that would be our theme for the trip 4 ferry rides, not repeating one, so it would kinda go like this: day 1 chicago-toronto day 2 toronto-springfield VT day 3 springfield VT- St. Johns day 4 St. Johns- North Sydney Via the ferry(if it actually exists) the rest of the trip stays the same, like i said we were just looking at side trips, to make our trip out a little more fun the fourth ferry, would be the lake MI ferry, making 4 ferry trips, again the hope is to arrive at the original ferry on the 4th day being August 1st at midnight This is all(well part of it) out the window if the ferry from St. Johns over does not exist (looks like it goes from St. John to Digby) again any info would help out thanks Roger |

Sorry Newfie,(i just re-looked at the Map and realized something) that would be St John NS, not the St John's on the island, again sorry for the confution, your plan for the trip does not change in anyway, outside of the dates, like i was refering before, we are just planning our part of the trip out to North Sydney hope this makes more sence Roger |

That funky Newfoundland calandar starting the new year at the end of summer. Cut back on the screech buddy, I want there to be some left when I get up there.

Thats probably St. John, NEW BRUNSWICK not ST. JOHN'S, NEWFOUNDLAND, Your about 1500 miles off the mark!!!!!!! Get the map of North America and look for a place called Cape Spear, Newfoundland. Cape Spear is considered the Most Easterly Point in North America.

Newfie, its st john, no S here is what i am talking about, i think the grey line is the ferry: http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?formtype=search&countryid=41&addtohistory=& country=CA&address=&city=st.+john&state=&zipcode=&submit=Get+Map Without the ferry its about 375 miles to the departure point(for the island) makes for a nice easy day, considering the previous 500 mile days later Roger |

Dullorb, if you can make it & I can get a ride here & there it works for me, I'm no stranger to a steering wheel just that usually its got 40 tons behind it, so a Saab should be a piece of cake. Damn I'm glad someone's got a thinking head on cos I've been racking my brains to work out getting a bike there. Hey just had a thought, if the saabs a convertible I can gaffer tape a set of bars to the wheel, wear my helmet and it'll be near enough the real thing! |

No gaffer tape will adorn my convertible!!!!!! But a chase vehicle may be a good idea on this end of the trip!!!! If someone get tired of riding then we could switch from car to bike, etc, etc and we could also ride while carrying no gear. We can either use the Convertible (Not a Lot of Storage Space but such a nice ride), the 89 900s (More than enough storage space), or my wife's 2000 Windstar Van (Remove the seats and we could squat a bike inside Storage). So this may be an idea!!!! What we need to do now is try to finalize a date so we can get some motels tentatively booked - I wanna try to find the more cost efficient ones. |

Newf, are there any Hostels near you? And near is a very relative term. In all my travels I found youth hostels to be the first choice I look for. I would rather have a one hour ride from a hostel than a 10 minute ride from a motel. The more we talk about this trip the more donut(Doughnut) wants to go, so keep posting those pics Newfie. I am going to plan a tentative route for the two of us, we're going to try to do it in 3 days because of time constraints Riders - Newfie/There/100% Spidey/Dearborn MI/100?% Crusty/Central MA/100% Crusty's Wife/Central MA/100% Awprior/Southern PA/100% Grndskpr/Chicago IL/100% Grndskpr's friend/Chicago IL/100% Iamike/Waverly IA/99.5% Innes/Rennes,F/90% Dullorb/M'waukee WI/77% mookie/Dearborn MI/ 11001% Doughnut/Racine WI/12% Lake_bueller/Green Bay,WI/0% YourNameHere/YourHomeHere/Likelyhood%Here Tentative Working Itinerary - Sunday, August 1, 2004 - August 8 http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/show.cgi?tpc=37&post=223773#POST22 I think I am going to put a little page about this trip up on the BrewCityBuell website soon just to have a quick reference avaialable. When we get some dates hammered out it should help keep things together. |

Let's just keep the dates the same. If I get off work on Friday, that leaves me two days to get to the ferry which sails at midnight on Sunday. We arrive early monday morning, which gives us two days to get to St. John's. Easy ride, lots of time to gawk at scenery. Then we'll be there in time for the Regatta. My experience has been that if you try to get a group moving at the same speed as a solo rider, there's going to be a lot of headaches. If we leave a little room in the schedule, people won't feel too rushed, and everyone will enjoy themselves more. I've done 1,000 mile days solo, but the best I've ever done with a group was 400. |

I don't know how the roads are Newf, how long would it be for this one? http://www.hostelsweb.com/hostelsweb.com/hostel.php?HostelNumber=2325 On second look, it seems more like a B&B, which are nice in their own right but it seems that there aren't any official hostels in Newfoundland, pity. edited by dullorb on February 04, 2004 |

I like Crustys idea of a sunday midnight ferry ride on August 1st, that would mean anybody could take anyway they like and meet up at the ferry Dana and i talk about this trip it seems to change, but for the better, the new trip looks like this: leave wedensday at noon for london ON thursday london to montreal friday motreal to Bar Harbor Main Sat morning take the Cat ferry from Bar Harbor to Yarmouth NS then on to Halifax sunday Halifax to north Sydney while the last to days are very light, it gives us time to look around and see Nova, should be fun plus all the days are under 500 miles, so theres no rush, and since this is vacation, no sence in rushing This of course could change again, but it looks good, miles are right, stopping area look good So lets firm up the date, take a vote or whatever, and make some reservations later Roger |

Roger, If you're riding from Chicago we'll have to make arrangements to meet up. I haven't heard any from the Minneapolis boys lately but if we do ride the whole way we could all meet you. What part of town do you live in? My days are flexible since I have accumulated 7 weeks of vacation and can burn a couple on this trip. |

Roger, That sounds like a good trip - make sure you check out some of the entertainment when going through Montreal. I came through solo so I never had the chance to partake of th festivities. Mr. Grumpy may be operating a chase vehicle yet so we may be all looked after!!! |
