Just got a pipe back from Randy at Hawk Performance. Sounds very nice, kinda like a smallblock Chevy. Pulls very nicely all the way through the power band. He's only charging $175 plus shipping to turn a stock pipe into a beast. Weeeee!

Hey Lou, please enlighten me on your Hawk Performance pipe. At $175, it sounds like one heck of a deal. I am not at all familiar with their product. Thanks in advance.

This is his website:http://home.windstream.net/hawk63/. The sound clip he has doesn't do it justice. If you want to stop by and look at mine just let me know. Randy's a really good guy to do business with. He wouldn't let me pay him 'till I was satisfied with his work.

Congratulations on the new pipe! The next mod I plan to do is a chopped pipe. I can't wait to see it (hear it) in person!

Getting sent out of own for a week by my job to attend a seminar. So I thought that I would take advantage of the week without my bike by doing some performance upgrades to the Uly!!!!

I have disassembled the bike, it now sits in my shop looking more like a bucket of bolts than a motorcycle!

Here is what I am doing...

Took off muffler and sent it to Jim @ Voodoo-Fabrication for modification.
I went with the "Black Majic" pipe he offers with two short stainless outlets. I made some other special modifications to his normal offering with advice from Mike Cobb (xoptiinside), Jim (Voodoo-Fabrication) and my friend and motorcycle mechanic Brian. The changes to his standard pipe were made to quiet it somewhat, and still provide the all of the performance gains and a louder, deeper sound. The changes I had him make have to do with the placement of internal baffles and how they are arranged inside the pipe. Also, I asked him to fabricate the outlets to receive removable baffles. (Two levels of volume if desired)

Installing K&N air filter and doing an airbox mod. (cutting more holes!!!)

Open Breather re-route, no catch can. (Everyone should do this its EASY!) Ask me if you need help.

Fiberglass Right Side Scoop Part # 9160f Link...http://www.americansportbike.com/shoponline/ccp0-p rodshow/9160F.html

Downloaded ECMSPY and bought cable. Will buy the tuning if needed.

10,000 mile service (Brian is doing this for me)...I don't have 10,000 miles quite yet but I am close.

Switching to AMSOIL SYN. (Engine and transmission)

Installing some heat barrier under seat and possibly on inside of fuel rail.

Almost done with the upgrade! Looking good...running poorly.

The work is done on the bike!!! Pipe installed and all the other stuff too but;

I am having some trouble getting the ECM tuned. I reset the TPS and AFV and started bike all was fine. It sounded great at idle. So I went for a short ride (20min) and the bike ran a little rough. The check engine light came on as I pulled into my driveway. I checked the trouble codes and "lean mixture" was the engine code.

I was expecting this lean condition to exist due to the increased intake and exhaust flow, but was hopeful that the stock ECM settings could compensate.(at least in the short term)

I will most likely have to buy a map now and I am waiting to hear from Mike Cobb @ Xoptiinside.com. Hopefully he will be able to help me and shed some light on the situation.

The bike is running!!!!! It is like a whole new bike!!!!!
More Power...louder...noticeably faster!!!

After going through a wide range of feelings and many cuss words....
I got in contact with Mike (xoptiinside) on the phone and he helped me install a race map that is designed for my pipe! He really knows his sh*t! All I was going to do was buy a pre-fab race map and be happy. He helped me install the race map for free!!! I rode the bike and I can't stop smiling!!!! After talking to him about the best possible setup for my bike, I have decided to buy his tuning program for $99. He will help me make a custom fuel map that is made by reading the data collected directly from my ECM and applying corrections that will improve performance. (Race map as the base map)

He said that I should ride for 3 or 4 good rides and e-mail him the "new" map data from my ECM, he will then apply the proper changes to the map cell values to better suit my riding style. If more "tweaks" are needed he said he will work until I am happy.

Updates to come!!! --->--->ME--->

P.S.
He also said that I can make a second map that will help get better mileage for when I take a long trip and won't need as much performance!!!

I didn't even know you could do that.

Tomorrow I will tune the bike. I bought the $99 tune package today from Mike (XOPTI) and will spend tomorrow unleashing the bike's true potential!!!

Jazzed...can't wait!!!

Oh BTW...

The extra baffles screwed into the pipe do adjust the sound...from loud to f'cking loud. The wife has protested that it is too loud.

To her I say....WHAT?????
