What to do after you get soaked and turn around after ~50 miles into the trip to Suches?
Photo A:

01 before

Photo B - captioned 'Those Japanese fellers sure have some funny paper':

02 funny paper

Photo C - something's different, I just can't place it:

Photo D - hey waitaminnit, somethings missing:

04 more

Just a few shots for those who are impressed with seeing the inner workings of a Buell - someone knows what I'm referring to. It doesn't show all the progress, but a good chunk of it. Bonus points to anyone who can hazard a guess as to what all is going on. Just like Transformers - there's more than meets the eye...

After all was said and done, it's time for a little 'ginger ale':

05 ginger ale

So's anyone gonna hazard a guess?

Shorter gearing. 12 to 9 primary. I like ginger ale!

1313 did your clutch grenade? Your detent plate looks like it has a good gouge in it.

I read somewhere that you could remove the primary cover without taking the sideplate off. I can not figure out how to do that and since you do it the same way I do I must be doing it right.

It's been a while since I last went inside a tuber's primary, so I can't say for sure what is missing. However, I can tell that your clutch spring has changed, I assume you've updated everything to '06+ spec?

If I had to guess, you're also doing something with the shifter mechanism.

tuber's primary

Ah, that explains it. I thought it was the XT primary, but I couldn't figure out why it looked different than mine.

04xl1200c, I was thinking it looked a little dark. In the summer time I mix my beer with sprite. Half and Half. Sounds gross but it is actually refreshing. I used to date a German girl and she turned me on to that.

I did have a couple of good rides. Saturday, I did the loop with Barker and Yanik. When we got to the rockpile, Yanik wasn't with us. Looped back to find him beside the road with a bad charging system. Called Kristi (thanks) for cabin number, got trailer on the way. Yanik told us to go ahead, so Barker and I finished the loop. When done, I checked on Yanik as he was finishing up loading the bike. I went to Richard Russell by way of Dahlonaga. Then did Blood Mountian/Neal's Gap in both direction before taking Wolf pen back to TWO. Sunday I did a reverse loop and then made my way to Warwoman rd to 28 in SC. I rode 28 up to Fontana. I love 28, my arms were so tired from all the constant curve. Woke up yesterday with temps in low 30's, so I headed home instead of attacking Deal's Gap. A little over 1300 miles before I parked last night. Not bad considering I didn't ride Friday and only half of Saturday.

Hey Mike- Glad you took the pic; nice to have some proof I was there. Glad you had a good ride Sunday; sorry you missed Deal's Gap. I was pretty beat Monday too and you did ~500 miles more than me.

Oh well, only 7 months to Buelltoberfest...

Sorry to keep everyone hanging...

All Preventative Maintenance. Since the tubers use the same primary chain (40005-57B) as what's needed for the XB12 to XB9 primary swap, I'm gonna make the assumption that my S2 already has the "9 primary setup". The trap door shoulda been a dead giveaway that it's not an XB, plus that gorgeous white (but DIRTY) tube frame was also a good clue. Spike is right, at least in part, the clutch spring is the same one used in the '06+ transmissions. Just new friction plates and metal (or Japanese paper) plates. When the spring plate (grenade plate as I once heard it called...) grenaded many moons ago taking the clutch hub with it - 1990what? - I've been running the extra friction and steel plates since. Detent plate is fine as well, just shows what shrinking big images to fit on BadWeB does for optical clarity. No charging problem, other than my battery is probably dead since it hasn't taken a full charge from the Battery Tender Plus since I jockeyed the bikes around to get the S2 in a friendlier to work on position. But the last battery I put in it IIRC was in 2000, so I guess I shouldn't complain. Only things missing in the last pic are the sprockets and chain, but to put on the new 40005-57B primary chain the sprockets had to come off.

Frank,
I've never been able to get the primary cover off without removing the sideplate either. This time the S3 saddlebag on an S2 bracket held the sideplate just far enough away to allow primary cover removal. Beer and Sprite?!?! Them Germans sure do some funny things... You can buy premixed beer and cola in Germany - at any gas station. And trust me, it's as horrible as you are thinking! Actually in the summer in Germany they have a wonderful thing called Apfelschorle which is Apple juice mixed with their usual carbonated water (water with gas). It's the perfect thing for a hot summer afternoon - when you're not drinking "Ginger Ale" that is! Clean the shock?!?! Heck, I'm gonna replace it! So it will be lucky if it gets cleaned before it goes into the 'parts casket'. Muffler had to come off to drain the primary juice - one area that the XB is definitely superior! What trivia game?!?! I don't know nothing about no trivia game...

MTB,
You don't know how bad I wanted to escape New Bern last weekend and just 'relax' in Suches. Heck the rain there would've reminded me of the first time I was in Suches. Remember that Carlos? But after getting soaked within an hour of leaving home and not wanting to endure the same for the next 6-7 hours I figured that I've either gotten older or wiser (I heard once that wisdom comes with age...) and decided to turn around and go back 'home' with my tail between my legs.

So, who knows where I can get the best deal on a H-D AGM replacement battery for an S2?
1313

P.S. Ginger ale Be sure to check out the Ginger beer link...

I should have mentioned in my email that the trivia game is a secret LOL. It should be fun. I have about 18 questions and answers and 20 with the two I sent you and I think Court will know the answer to every one of them.

I gave up on draining the primary the correct way. I just pop the primary cover a little at the bottom and let the fluid drain (if I am replacing the gasket). Good to do with a beer/sprite on hand.

Good luck on the clutch my friend..

Ain't it great to contribute to something? Especially something that ends up being so grand?

More details to follow, as 'laws', i.e. conventional wisdom (where have I heard that before?) will allow,

P.S. Does anyone else out there realize how difficult it is to type - meaningful sentences - under the influence of Absinthe? Yeah, so I left work early tonight at 7:30 & I had time to drop by and annoy you all. Aren't you all blessed?

It always terrifies me to listen to my bike w/o earplugs in. There are some many strange noises emanating from the engine.
