Yes, I drove to Texas on Sunday at about 7:45am. I arrived at 3pm in Southlake (near Fort Worth), inspected, test-rode, loaded, and pulled away by 4pm. I unloaded the bike in my driveway by 1145pm. Went to bed and up for work the next morning at 6:30am.  The bike is friggin' awesome! Incredibly powerful, light, and easy to start. The honeymoon was over last night when I tried to get the chain adjuster bolts out. This bike has never been apart since it was first assembled back in late-2001. Consequently, everything is stuck. Honeymoon is back on. I got the bolts out tonight. Man, this bike is sweet! I put the headlight and tail light back on. Once I get a couple of replacement chain adjuster bolts, it will be ready to go. | ||

Yeah, I searched craigslist nationwide for a 300 exc and that one was the nicest one at any age. It has a total of about 50 hours on it. I put the first tool marks on it tonight when I was taking the bolts out of the swing arm. | ||

Thanks. They were not my flavor either, but I decided to give them a try. A buddy has a 250 EXC and I was impressed by how well engineered they are and how reliable his has been. You can change brake pads in about 10 seconds without removing the wheel. They come stock with a lot of the farkle that gets bolted onto the other brands in the aftermarket (hydraulic clutch, Renthal bars, steel braided brake lines, WhitePower suspension, etc...) and you tend to see more guys my age on them at the hare scrambles and on trail rides than the other brands. So far, I can tell you that I like it better than my CRF450R. It starts a lot easier. 450 was a bitch to kick and simply would not start if you didn't kick it hard enough, or if it was hot, which if you ran it for more than about 20 minutes at a time, it was hot. Besides, all other 2-strokes are geared for MX racing. This one is geared for enduro racing which is more similar to the type of riding I do. I just don't enjoy MX tracks. I like blasting through the woods on a single track, hopping logs, and climbing stuff. | ||

I've always like the KTM's for that reason, all the cool bells and whistles that comes standard, hydraulic clutch especially! And I've heard the motors have good power too. I bet that 2-stroke is a lot easier to kick over than the 4-stroke, just the nature of the beast. Still won't stop me from gettin one. Some guys on KCSB are talkin about goin riding this Saturday at Perry Lake, just FYI. | ||

Yes, it is way easier to kick than the 450. I would not have had a problem if it weren't for my recovering from knee surgery on my kicking leg. I needed the same power with the same weight and without the kicking difficulty, which is why I switched to 2-stroke. I also didn't want to fork out the $$ for a new bike with e-start or pay the weight penalty. The 250F you are planning for should be easier to kick than that 450 too. I find it a virtual toss up between the two motors slightly favoring the 4-stroke, but the kicking effort is a major factor for me now so I am willing to put up with the twitchy power band. Perry Lake is a blast. I am hoping to hit some private land up in Weston on Saturday with my usual riding buddy. I have to get some new chain adjuster bolts tomorrow. The old ones have a lot of torque on them from being so hard to get out. Another place to go that is way less crowded is in Topeka just south of the river on the east side of town at 39.081558, -95.641608 (copy/paste coordinates into Google Maps). | ||

no... google earth is its own program. that is google street view. I like it better than google earth, because google earth is a resource hog, that takes forever to load. google maps for the win. | ||

You beat me to it Lee but yeah that's the best point of view from above, I like those the best. I used those maps when I was looking at houses and stuff. But for the street view, google is the shiznit, as long as your street is available. It's amazing what they can do with cameras these days! Seems like those maps would take ALOT of time and repetition for the photographer and editors. Atleast it's free! | ||

Riverside?? Do you mean Riverfront Harley in Lawrence? Yes they have the buell tire gauges... but you gotta print out the coupon from the buell website and bring it to the dealer.. Ask for Eli or Ralph they have them.. I picked mine up already.. | ||

Hey Duff, Man...you would be proud of me. I think I got the sit down wheelies figured out. I can go through the first 3 gears like this. Upshifting isn't as tough as I thought it would be. Maybe its the smooth action 1125R transmission... Still can't do stand ups. Feels awkward...  | ||

Heck yeah buddy lookin good! I was practicing a little bit shifting from 3rd to 4th so I could wheelie past 80mph and keep up with the other guys poppin it up at 90+. Rode with a guy today that's got the 1125 with the D&D on it, •••••• LOUD! That thing even overpowered my force pipe! But yeah those things have impressive power. Have you had to take yours to the shop for any warranty work? This guy said he's had his in and out about 6 times and not real happy with it. | ||

Duff, Yeah, I don't really need to take it all the way to 4th gear (yet). Second gear wheelies go up to about 80-90 mph. I sit 3rd gear wheelies down at 110ish +. I hear from "No rice" that he can take 4th gear wheelies up to 140... A couple of weeks ago I put the Jardine on my bike and it is actually pretty loud. But it does have a deeper tone to it then the D&D. I like it, but MUST wear earplugs all the time now. So far my 1125R has held up real well. I am real happy with it, but it has been to the the dealer multiple times. Mostly for recalls and stupid things (like 3 sets of burnt out turn signals!) With all the updates done to my bike it runs awesome and is nearly perfect. There is maybe a little bit of truth in the fact that the 2008 models were released a little too soon. But they HAVE worked out all the minor issues, and I have never been without a bike or stranded... | ||

damn dtx, 1125 is lookin fresh! i been working on wheelies to, im workin on first gear staggered stand ups, i figure tht if i can master first gear before any of the others, they should be smooth sailing. hey duff, are you still going to hit up the lot this summer? id like to go a couple times if ya are. | ||

Sweet Drake, really like the pipe better than the D&D for sure. I bet it sounds killer. I figure as tall as you are it would be hard to do standups on anything! Bruce, well I sold my stuntbike and fiddy yesterday (still have the 9S, waiting on other half of payment in a couple weeks). Me and a bunch of guys went riding all day yesterday. I'd say practice your wheelies in 2nd gear so it's not so choppy. 1st gear is tough to ride out without hitting the rev limiter. Get in the habit of using the rear brake when wheelying! |
